50 Year old AMT American LaFrance pumper
Joe Nunes replied to GLMFAA1's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
It is always nice to see the older model builds brought out again. When this fire truck first arrived on the shelves it was quite exciting to see it. Thanks for sharing. ? Joe -
Who made a Studebaker Lark
Joe Nunes replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most likely to be a JoHan body. Joe -
Added the two outside welt pieces to the side body at the cowl/body junction. The dashboard is now about as ready for paint as it is going to be, and I added location pins to the inside of the cowl for the dashboard. The front window glass was in a badly scratched condition out of the kit box so I am getting the “glass” scratch marks cleaned up with fine grit sanding pads. Also, I decided to model the front window glass in an open position just for the fun of it. ? Joe

Gorgeous clouds and quite windy day here with snow showers and a temperature of 15 degrees. The yard is white. ??? No yard work today but that means Model Building Time!! ? Joe

Hey guys I am a muscle car modeler from London KY
Joe Nunes replied to Roadrunner1972's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Just think what fun it would be to have those two '66 muscle cars today. A 1:1 era that I feel was special and never quite duplicated again. Joe -

I can recall walking to high school and seeing those '64 - '68 muscle cars being delivered or on the street. Now those are some great memories! ? Really liked the '66 GTO and the '68 Roadrunner when they came out...what a sight for young eyes. Joe -

Welcome to the forum, Darren! Joe -
Saw one of these Cruisers while driving a big rig on the freeway around the Dallas - Worth area during the mid '90's. Had the CB on and drivers were talking about this huge car on the freeway. I saw it coming up along side of my tanker and it was a very nice and clean Cruiser that was also very impressive and quite long. Only time I ever saw one on the road and that was a cool experience. Dave, you are correct. I have discussed this situation with the HL folks in our local store and all of the clerks, stockers and the manager stated that they have no say in what model stock arrives with the weekly company truck. They don't like the situation either but that's how the HL system works. Still I am glad to be able to purchase some desired kits during the 40% off weeks and have plenty to keep me busy while I'm still looking at the bright side of the sod. ? Joe

I have used super glue as a spot fill, and find that some Talc powder mixed up quickly with a drop or two of glue makes a great filler that can be sanded smooth within an hour or so. Sanding within the short time period allows plastic dust to also cover the glue and that gets sanded smooth too. I have always found super glue harder to sand the longer you wait which can then result in sanding a depression around a glue fix because the plastic is softer than the dried glue spot. Joe

Checked our HL yesterday and same kits with lots of empty shelf space. With all the new kits coming out you would think someone at HL would want to put them on the shelves and sell them. Joe

Exhaust molded in ?
Joe Nunes replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
On an old model kit build or restoration, like the original issue AMT 1960 Buick Invicta HT, kit 5560 ‘60 149, that I have been working on, I want to keep the original “look” of the model including the one piece chassis. I am using a scriber and a couple of dental tools along with a #11 dull point blade to carefully remove plastic from around the items that I want to be a bit rounded where the plastic meets the chassis. This should provide a shadow effect when painting the chassis…or at least clean it up some. ? Joe -
Future Clear Coat Question
Joe Nunes replied to tractoraholic's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thanks for the quick responses! I think I will run some lacquer thinner through the tip between coats to be safe, especially until I get acquainted with the spray brushing procedure. Thanks again for the assistance. Joe -
I always get a "kick" out of seeing these old built model collection photos. Lots of potential enjoyment there if someone wants to take the time to work with the models...and I sure would If they were in my shop. Thanks for sharing the photos with us! ? Joe

Double bunk GMC Astro
Joe Nunes replied to Mike77's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
A great model idea. I drove the Astro for awhile...talk about driving a box down the highway! That cab can look huge when you're sitting behind the wheel. Never really enjoyed driving the Astro. ? Joe -
You are going on the right path here with this build and from this point it is starting to look like it's going to be a winner. A long straight block engine with a bit of bling and maybe side exhaust piping coming out of the hood panels? ? Joe

Future Clear Coat Question
Joe Nunes replied to tractoraholic's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
As a newbie I have to ask: after spraying a mist coat, and while waiting 10 - 15 minutes between coats, do you clean the airbrush and cup out so as to be starting fresh with the next paint step? Joe -
Good looking COE wearing a great color combination! Well done! ? Joe

“Gas Chamber” Gasser/Funnycar kind of thing…
Joe Nunes replied to Mad Slammer's topic in Drag Racing
Well done! ? Joe -
The Crescendo 175 manual I have calls out the tips as Fine, Medium and Large. Looks like the tips are described this way due to the dual action trigger feature. I am going to try out this airbrush over the next day or so using edible food colors and distilled water. That should provide some chuckles! ? Joe
-
Thanks for sharing your above comments! I already have the new Badger Crescendo in the shop (where it has been on the shelf , unused, for many years. The suggestions above will allow me to consider a more simplistic airbrush approach as a newbie airbrush user. I need all of the help I can get! ?? Joe

The engine is coming along great, a model all by itself within a model. Your photos and commentary are really appreciated. ? Joe -
