What was your 1st 1 to carforthlin replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) My first paid for car was a 1963 Olds. Dynamic 88 convertible I bought for $115.00 in June, 1971. This was my first conv. & I loved it. My girlfriend & I took that car to the drive-in theatre every Friday & Saturday night that summer, rain or shine. It had the neck snapping "slim jim" transmission that gave it's last snap in Feb. 1972. I had no idea how to change a trans back then & my Mom wouldn't let me keep a "junk" car in the driveway, so off to the scrap yard it went. I still have the keys & title to it & a few pictures.

Here's my first attempt at a multi-piece body model. I'm surprised at how little flash & trimming there was for a 1956 mold. The rear end looks a little stubby compared to the 1:1 car but the rest looks pretty accurate for a 1/32. I never had any luck fitting a windshield to look decent so I gave up & it doesn't have one.

I made a couple of these about 10 years ago & they work real good. The model can be flipped over to paint the bottom. I made them out of 1x2's. I ran a couple screws into one for a base & the 1x2 the models attached to is held on by a long bolt with a wingnut on the back to loosen & tighten so I can flip the model over. I used a couple of coat hangars to hold the model. I'll get some better pics as to how it's put together in the next couple days.

Here it is almost done. I'm surprised there so few fitment problems for a 1956 mold. I've always wanted to build the '59 Ford retractable but the multi-piece body kept me from getting it. Now I'll have to get one since they're pretty easy to put together. Painting the figures, especially the face, has been a real challenge. I still have a ways to go with them. The biggest pain has been trying make a windshield & so far I haven't been to lucky.

I finally got the body built, prepped, & painted. It was a lot easier putting that multi piece body together than I thought it would be. I used Testors orange with a black/white interior to match the car on the box. No pictures of the interior yet. They're masked & painted. The chassis is pretty much one piece except for the rear suspension & one piece front suspension. The engine is pretty simple with few parts but It doesn't look to bad. The windshield frame I painted gloss black & used Alclad chrome. This kit doesn't come with a windshield so what's the best thing to use to make one?

Coming home from work a couple hours ago a truck ahead of me kicked up a stone & cracked my windshield. To add insult to injury this is a new $200.00 windshield I had put in 2 wks. & 2 days ago.

I've been down with a miserable case of the flu for 3 days. Everybody has had it around me this winter & I figured by now I beat the odds. But no such luck.

I bought this model 19 years ago without knowing it was a multi-piece body & a 1/32 & never had the courage to try to build it. I figured it's now or never after this many years.

Non traditional work spacesforthlin replied to topher5150's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) I've been using an old kitchen table in my bedroom for over 20 years. It's fairly big so I've got some room to work.

About 10 years ago before I wore glasses I was super gluing a part & got some in my eye. I had to take an emergency trip to the eye Dr. He had to numb my eye & dig each little piece of glue out. No fun!

RIP Joe. So many of the 60's rockers are dying. The boomers were supposed to be the generation that were never going to get old. Don't trust anyone over 30 because they're to old? I only wish I could be 30 again.

I played guitar in several garage bands in my younger days. The first group I was in we called ourselves "The Hydraulic Banana". I still have the electric guitar I got in Nov. '69 & used in most of these groups. I haven't played in so many years It would take me forever to relearn everything.

Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?forthlin replied to Synister's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials I've been thinking of ordering one of these from ebay since the price seems right. I need to know if you can use lacquer & enamel rattle cans since I don't use an airbrush.

1:1 Cars that had an effect on you, and why.forthlin replied to Rodent's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars) My Mom's '55 Olds Starfire conv. She had it from 1959 - 61. I was a wee one but I do remember that gorgeous car. '56 Mercury Monterey. I bought it for $40.00 in 1970 & sold it for $75.00 in early '71. I still regret it. '63 Olds 88 conv. I owned 4 of these between '71 & '82.
