Home run! This build ticks a lot of boxes for me- a nice period build using era correct parts, great color combo, well finished, with a great overall look. Nicely done.
  2. Nice- I could see a warmed up flathead, and early hemi, a Cadillac, an early small block Chevy with ram horn exhausts looking at home between the fenders. Add multiple carbs on a log style intake for bonus points if you are shooting for a late 50's to early 60's vibe. Any or all of those should be easy enough to come up with in scale.
  3. I understand- looks like a promising start. I'll be sure to ask some questions when I get the urge to try Createx (one day). Based on how your work looks, it definitely has potential.
  4. I have seen the Createx paints, and have yet to try them (still too comfortable with lacquers). Yes, they definitely have some great colors in their different lines. One day I'll try to shoot some myself. If I lucked on to one of those kits, I would probably try to backdate it for a more "retro" look...I can appreciate it regardless, and will be watching how this comes together.
  5. Paint looks good- that is a nice improvement already.
  6. Mmmmm. Eddie Meyer. They offered some really nice parts for dressing up and improving performance on the Ford flathead engine. Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland used to offer some scale Eddie Meyer parts (though I don't believe they cast a set of heads exactly like those). RMoM's castings are extremely nice. They even offer some spark plug wire looms like those in your photo.
  7. The custom heads in that kit represent the later model front-water port heads. Accurate for hopping up an early flathead? No, but many later model flatheads made their way into early rods & customs.
  8. That is an accurate description. I was lucky enough to get a few different pairs at a local hobby shop. Well-cast, look great.
  9. If you are also considering aftermarket flathead hop up parts, the Model Car Garage resin cast finned heads take pretty well to use on 1/24th scale engines: https://www.modelcargarage.com/eshop/pc/showsearchresults.asp?pageStyle=P&resultCnt=&keyword=resin&submit=SEARCH The center port parts are suitable for early flatheads, and the front port parts are better for later production flatheads (or for simulating one of those).
  10. Holy heck that is pretty- I imagine nicer than that vehicle looked brand new off the assembly line. A model within a model, and extremely detailed/well-done. I always look forward to seeing an update on your work.
  11. I do have a pretty comprehensive set, and should I break a small bit, I have replaced them with Walther bits sold as singles or pairs sourced from a local model train shop. I have been in to Princess Auto and Lee Valley, wouldn't have thought to look there for micro drill bits- good to know. I do appreciate a bargain, and as I get in to Hobby Lobby every 2-3 weeks, buying one as a spare with their 40% off coupon makes the price "right."
  12. Those bodies look promising. I look forward to watching this one come together.
  13. Always test first, but yes most Testors clear lacquers will be OK to shoot over Testors lacquer color coats. The high gloss Wet Look clear should be fine. Let the base coat flash and dry before overcoating with clear.
  14. I haven't seen those at my closest Hobby Lobby (across the line in the US). If that is true, it is a great deal- I'll have to look next time. https://www.jensentools.com/x-acto-circuit-board-micro-drill-bit-set-with-stand/p/173-423 ^^ I bought a set like this many years ago at a local Canadian hobby shop, and if I remember right paid considerably more. I have a few pin vises for different tasks, some for tiny bits that work with the smallest sizes, some with larger collets. They are usually pretty inexpensive and it doesn't hurt to have a few different ones for various tasks.
  15. Great looking build- does not disappoint. I knew that paint job was going to be a winner.
  16. A promising (re)start. I love that kit, and the subject. Will be interested to watch it come together.
  17. The bean counters are trying to minimize costs (less individual labels to print) and thereby maximize profits. I can live with that easier than higher prices, or less color options.
  18. https://www.sketchuptextureclub.com/textures/nature-elements/rattan-wicker ^^ anything here have the right look for DIY laser print decals?
  19. Printing this on some decal paper (experiment re-sizing on plain paper first) might get you something in the ballpark: https://www.webfx.com/blog/images/cdn.designinstruct.com/files/371-fabric_textures/fabric_texture_01.jpg
  20. That is a really great save- the finished product is excellent. Gorgeous looking car.
  21. Home run with that one- great period look, well-executed and cleanly built. I like everything about it.
  22. I would get some Tamiya TS-50 Mica Blue, try a spoon tests over white primer, light grey primer and silver leaf- should get you relatively close. I believe that is what was used here. Manipulating the base color under the transparent metallic will change the tone slightly.
  23. Whoah- that turned out well! Good job, and great color choices.
  24. A huge flock of great looking Deuces (and other nice examples of early iron). Lots of inspirational reference material. Thanks for sharing these!
