  1. Amazing details, Shane.
  2. Welcome Tim. This is a great place to gather tip and ideas. The plug wires are telephone wires - you know that usually grey wire running around the house? It has 4 wires inside (red, black, green, yellow). All the cables are necklace wire from Hobby Lobby. HL carries a few different gauges. I should have probably used a larger size, but that's what I had immediately available. The shift linkage is also wire from HL - a paper clip could have been used. Hope you post some pics of your chopper later on.
  3. The guy doesn't sound like a friend.
  4. You could put some huge tires under that puppy.
  5. Thanks guys. Never built a chopper before, but I like them. There's enough parts to build another one - after several other projects are completed.
  6. A '56 2 door post. Yesssssssss! That was my first car. You did a terrific job on this one.
  7. Thanks Luke. I'm having thoughts for the next bike build - wider gas tank and a taillight molded into the fender.
  8. Thanks Neal. I might bring it with me.
  9. Maybe that would have worked, Rob. I almost tried brush painting a star looking thing but decided I'd screw it up. Maybe the next one - I have enough parts for another build.
  10. Thanks guys.
  11. Thanks guys. I wanted to try out slicing masking tape very thin for a '58 TBird I'm working on.
  12. Here's my first bike build. HOK stratus blue, candy apple red, and pearl white were used for paint that was cleared, sanded, polished, and waxed. I used a file to cut grooves into the gas tank. Instead of installing the fork by gluing the frame together, I opted to drill the fork and slide a pin to hold it in place. Used the same procedure to mount the rear tire. The air filter is from a 1/25 scale car. The outer primary cover is scratch built.
  13. Testors inca gold was used. The paint was cleared sanded, polished, and waxed. Taillights are clear plastic painted metallic stop light red. Side vents were opened and screen installed. Wheels/tires from some other kit are larger so the rear wheelwells were made larger. The 427 engine is one of my castings (available through Crazy Scale Auto Parts) and is wired & plumbed including oil dipstick, fuel lines, and throttle linkage.
  14. The process I've used is Testors gloss enamel over Plasticote grey primer (T235), and then a makeup applicator to apply the Gin San. Wear gloves and turn off any fans. The stuff is very, very fine and can make a mess real quick. The Gin San doesn't give a chrome "chrome" appearance. It will never replace Alclad.
  15. The proposed paint job looks fantastic. Will you go slow and take pics of the masking process?
  16. Thanks for the new flyer. I'll spread the word around here. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town and will miss it.
  17. I was getting HOK paints from TCP Global but discovered (through Dr. Cranky) Coast Airbrush. Coast is about $2 per 2oz bottle of pre-mixed paint cheaper than TCP. I'm in the process of trying to get an order together for Coast.
  18. For about the past 12 - 18 months, I've been using strictly HOK paints shot through an airbrush. It's much better than rattle cans, IMO. Recently purchased a Pace spray booth that's ducted to the outside too. Marvelous setup.

Terrific looking build, Lee. And SHINY :)
  20. When will #161 be coming out?
  21. Whew! Fantastic paint job. Nice and SHINY :) How about more pics of the dio too.
  22. What a neat idea.
