This may not work for some folks who are more demanding than me. But I needed more than poster board to do photos for here and eBay. So the wife picked up 4 pieces of foam board at the DG. I did some basic knock ups and planned this. First time, I taped it up backwards. I.e. large at the rear. That would work as well. The. T Bird is a1/18 Ertl diecast, so there is plenty of room. Light source is 3 incandescent bulbs in a ceiling fan. Built it on the dining room table. Looks like it will work well enough with most any light source for basic needs. Final version small at back. Looks like my lens was smudgy. Looks clearer on my phone than this. Apologies. 1/24 Danbury Mint 57 Dodge truck. This is the original version. It works as well, maybe better? Held together with duct tape and clear packing tape. Walls are cut back from the front edge to allow better access and still have white all around in photos. 1/18 T Bird in final version - you can see more seams than the original. I did caulk them after photos. Sidewalls and back are tapered to "funnel" in light. Original didn't have tapers. Original version - large at rear - only one seam showing. Final version overall Both cars in original version Fuzzy photo, original version. Might have worked better.

OK, let me know if you need parts for the Chevy if you go forward. Or if you want the heap I have. Interesting that the Chevy model has a floor shift instead of column. That would make me think 4 speed instead of 3. Threes speed manuals were generally a column shift, right? I admit that I really don't know other than to assume.

Grand Sport Corvettes

I *think* the cars orginal cars had the molded hood. Then they had to be opened up for more air for the Webers. Originally they had a different intake setup? I really need to find my book. I'm sure someone else here will probably know as well. The hoods changed a lot through the years. -
Nice set. Hard to not like the bone shaker. And I have a version of hte 55 Chevy on my desk right under my monitor. The matter black with white/green flames. It responds well to some basic detailing.

Grand Sport Corvettes

Oh yeah, love this topic. I have 3 of them built, White one - IDK which one - very first issue, #2 Blue/white one and the Delmo Johnson car from the AM version with VRM decals. My favorite race car of all times. I have a handful of hte Eagle's race 43rds, and the Monogram 1/32 slots, including a roadster conversion to the Wintersteen car. There was the racingicons website that won't open today, that detailed the restoration and preservation of the original body. I STUDIED that site a lot when building my later kits. I hope it's not gone. I've read that over several times AFTER I built my kis. Just not lately apparently. And OMG, the Simeone museum says the GS were better handling than a Cobra. They've never read the friedman book, evidently. Where they talk about the front end lift nearly floating hte front wheels? And that the Wintersteen car is unrestored? The BODY maybe, according to the racingicons site. That site said that hte Wintersteen body was removed and preserved, but they restored/rebuilt everything else on the car. So who on the internet do you believe? BUT I will be following this along as it goes. Wish I could get all the stuff to build more of these. Good tires, headers, decal, kits, etc. BUt I just don;t think I'm up to funding a couple more correct ones. And I would like to have the three Mecom cars that raced early. Again - lots of funding to do them correctly. And research. So I'll just follow this. ? -
Yes the hood side photoetch emblems do say HydraMatic. The Chevy parts truck I have has a floor shift. The GMC has column shift. But I didn't look too closely at either one of the transmissions. The GMC has wired engine, fuel lines, etc. The Chevy seems old school. No wires or extra details. THe GMC does have several extra details for the LE.

There used to be one of this body style Chevy at my grandfather's farm when I was young, so the body style holds a little appeal to me. Even though the one in my memory was dusty and rusty. And only ran occasionally. THanks for the compliment. I wonder if they were as shiny as these even on day one.

Nice! I do like a greenwood Corvette.

Just finished this one. I still have a high disdain for black models. But, this one is a limited edition, 572 of 5000, so I'll hold on to it. My buddy Todd found it at a consignment store for $8 I think he said. He gave it to me for the repairs I did for him. It was sad. Missing the front bumper, terribly dirty. Missing the mirrors and taillight, bent antenna, scuffs and marks. I was going to use some other kit bumper, but that 53 Chevy showed up other week for cheap. So I still only have like $20 in this one. I wish I would have taken more time painting the gravel pan behind the bumper now that it turned out nice than I thought it would. It took quite a bit of cleaning. I'll keep it in a case to preserve the shine since it's black. Have no idea where to display it though. That will be the next thing.

I was a big fan in mid 80s. When qualifying was only on a "local" radio station in NC. Up till about the CoT. I think the last thing I built may have been the Lowe's Jimmy Johnson 2006 car when they retooled the kits, Maybe a DE Jr kit too?. I was losing interest at that point and don't remember building much. I still have a LOT of NASCAR decals in a box.

Nice build! I built one when they were new and they come out really nice. And yours is looking great with all the detailing.

Yes, please for sure, post up when you build it.

I saw a video on Youtube yesterday called "petty Blue". I think it was a CMT documentary. I saved it for later. I do like things like that. Petty said in one book I read that htey used to just dig a big hole and bury the cars. Including one of the superbirds.

Nice!

I wish I had a photo of my DeSoto P/S to go with these. Mine was a dark metallic red. I used the RoadRunner chassis. It also worked under the Lil Red Express Truck for me. I think I posted that one here somewhere. Those pastels look great. Thanks for sharing.

I read somewhere from Petty himself, that he loved the 71 Charger so much that he continued to use it as long as NASCAR would allow, which was like 74. Just to add to the Petty discussion above.

So, I don;t do NASCAR models or NASCAR anymore. BUT... I've been thinking about it for years. In the interest of keeping it "Stock Car" like the SC in NASCAR, why not use the GT4 Mustang or some modification of that and the competitive models from other brands? They are calling the aberrations they use now Mustangs and camaros and they don;t look a thing like the showroom car. Why not go back to some form of stock car? Make the mods needed to get the MAX out of these cars so it isn't IMSA racing. Keep the tracks. I mean, every other continent seems to have a true STOCK car racing form. I know I don;t understand the whole thing but that would be my thought. I built over 200 NASCAR kits back in the day, so I was a fan. Just don't care about it anymore. Would rather got to VIR and watch those races than to go to Charlotte for anything. I want the Mustang GT4 kit. I have no interest in another NASCAR kit. I really have no idea where the GT4 even races, but I like the kit and the race car. I will do my GT4 in something other than that gray - I always liked the vibrant sche, mes of NASCAR. I know people hated it, but the PEter MAxx Earnhardt car was a high water mark for me as a fan and a modeler. SO the gray GT4 is like a test car to me. LOL

NIce piece. Lots of nice details there.

A GT350 in any scale is usually a nice addition and this one seems to be.

I wouldn't sell that one either. Love that period paint

Is there something wrong with me? I love this

I posted a link in the diecast section a week or two back. Yep I'm addicted to that and Vice Grip Garage on YouTube as well. Thinkng of dropping my Motor Trend TV subscription and paying the membership on Vice Grip Garage. He's putting out more videos than Roadkill is at this point. More informational. And the racing on 3Dbotmaker is the best. More entertaining than NASCAR. -
They used to be okayish. I have a 59 Cadillac in 1/43 and have owned some 1/18s in the past. Back then, maybe a little better than Ertls of the early 2000s. Looking at the site now, looks like some fairly nice pieces. Looks like they have upgraded to stay competitive. The Shelby GT500 looks pretty good and no dog leg door hinges like Round2 is still using on their recycled models. Nothing on there that I owned in the past and the models on their look pretty nice. Wayne Moyer used to rate them pretty highly when reviewed. Be sure to post photos if you get something...
