That looks GREAT! I sold one of those wagons off without a thought to fixing it up like that. Wish I had it back now! Great work!

I won a kit on eBay for $13/Shipping ridiculous?
randyc replied to jchrisf's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
To reply to the OP, you got a good deal. Seller either gambled and lost or made a mistake. I've made so many mistakes over the years, it's ridiculous. I am not making any real money on ebay. however, I am liquidating decades of stuff. I just post it, price it and live with it. I am not brave enough to start an auction at 99 cents. Usually I just put my stuf on BIN with calculated shipping. It can sit there for months so long as it stays on free listing. Kinda like being on the shelf at a store. it will sell for a price someday. maybe. Or I'll lower it down to get rid of it. I know they (Ebay, PP) are going to get their money eventually and I just don't think about it. I know it's not the best way or smartest way and I may get flamed. But I have to move stuff and this works for me. My stuff never seems to be worth anything much so auctions are a bust. And yes, I would prefer if you are buying multiples that you wait til I can calculate combined shipping and send you an invoice. Easier than having to refund. And sometimes, you just don't have a box that will hold everything someone will buy. I can't keep collecting boxes for "someday" either. This week, I've put a good car load in the recycle pile at work. Have to figure it out later if I need a box. -
Hey, I have a project I started years ago. Revell 31 Ford Sedan. I have the top chopped and the body is complete like I want it. Short of more paint maybe. I don't have photos yet to share. I wanted to build it as a primered rat way low. SO I had it kinda working, but with the 29 Roadster, I have a much better frame that I don't have to engineer every aspect of. In theory anyway. Has anyone put the 31 body over the 29 rails? What all kit parts did you use etc? And what kind of adhesives do you guys use for temporary (mock up) assembly? I tried some alleens tacky glue, which seems pretty useless. And I'm not the gentlest modeler. I'll try to get some photos soon. Thanks

I know this an old thread brought back - I'm glad it did as I haven't seen it before. There has always been a divide between plastic kit builders and diecast collectors/builders/modifiers. I used to feel that way myself. But as I get older, I'd rather modify/detail a diecast than go through the build process unless it's really interesting to me. And easy. This is my hobby and I want it to be relaxing and fun to me. There is a diecast section on here for those of us who want to share our diecasts and appreciate them without them getting lost or disparaged because it's "just a diecast". So if I can find a diecast that is reasonably detailed and can be made to look better if needed, I'll go that route. Even replacing some of my built plastics with diecasts. It's a shame that diecasts aren't given the respect they deserve, especially with the mods MRM made on his. Seems like at the point it was disassembled, it became a kit again. Just like someone restoring an old build or glue bomb. And this may be preaching to the choir at this point. These are beautiful builds that shouldn't be excluded from any sort of forum or contest. Just shows how bad those things can be. No matter how hard you promote them as otherwise.

Tamiya 1/12 Porsche 934

That looks great, especially when I see that it's made from a model box. -
I Like it! AWesome!

These black ones are pretty spectacular. And the wheels/caps are awesome. Y'all's hoods fit better than mine. These are all missing any kind of indication of the three little fake vents or depressions where they should be on the front fender. All photos of 1:1s show that they either have the trim or the depressions. I can live with it though. And maybe the front fenders slope down a bit much in the front. That black is just so sinister. Serious car. Should have Men In Black driving it. I'm going to keep looking for these on the cheap. Probably try to get the green one at some point and maybe a Bel Air someday. Stock of course. Wish they did the 150 with a stock height top. But I do have a Black Widow built.

If I had to start again, I would def try a TROG or some sort of rat rod where precise fit is not as important. You can get a couple elements to work, but I can't, for the life of me, get everything to work together. And I've been building a while... Never had one quite this tough. Every thing has to work right from the beginning or it is not going to work at the end. I've glued the front parts together in different combinations a couple times and had to break them back apart and still not together. I do have someone taking me up on my offer to send it to them though. LOL So it will likely go to a better home. I'm ready for the 69 SS396 and Mustang GT4.

I'm going to add mine to this thread and Gramps may add his in as well. Or he may start his own. We've been ordering similar stuff recently, sometimes by accident, sometimes not. But he was telling me he got one and I looked this thread up again and decided a 57 with a top would be a nice addition. That it's a 210 and not ANOTHER BelAir is a bonus. I really liked the 2 tone green and may do that one someday but here is the cheapie I ended up with. I like it a lot for what it is. I see it as a guy's back yard beauty that he runs down the strip occasionally. It's almost harbor blue but has a lot of metal flake in the paint. So like a 70s repaint. I want to do some detailing on it - fix the rear wheels - center cap has to go, some paint on the lugs. Detail the mags too. It has disc brakes represented on the front. I might paint the top white - that would be easy to do and set it off a bit more. Would do the side coves but for the Chevrolet scripts on there. Do the fin tops like Snake did. Other standard detailing as well. What about a slight dull coat to knock the shine down like an older project car? Or weathering it more than just dull? What all would a guy do to his car that would be easy to represent on this one?

Revell 1/25 289 Cobra--1st look, (I think)
randyc replied to Ralph Henderson's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The photos on the link seem to show old MPC/AMT hollow vinyl tires. That sample looks nicely built in the photos. What could possibly go wrong? LOL -
Looks good! Maybe...

these are on the streets. My guy has it and will be brining it in the next week or so. Exciting. Gotta decide on a color. And a Tamiya Mustang too. Which to start with?
-
Nice! I have a blue one similar but not gasser style. I like the gasser!

Thanks, I've read that too. I just have no lingering interest in this car. I was supposed to build it for a friend but he passed away unexpectedly. Like a couple months after he sent me a slew of kits. Dang it. I do have other kits and projects I want to work on.

Ford vs. Ferrari Film
randyc replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I finally watched it. Actually ended up paying the $20 to OWN a digital copy with the featurettes. The guys dealing with the cars were a little apologetic about some of the car errors that they caught. But they were alos like "deal with it" - we know it's not perfect and there will be those that find mistakes. I swear the Ferrari that crashed big had no engine or anything else behind the driver compartment. No big deal. I was hoping the fight scene with Shelby and Miles was a real thing - that would be a fun thing in racing history. It was a good movie. Left me wanting more movies or documentaries on racing from that era. -
I'm having a hella time geting the hood and fenders on this thing. If anyone wants it, PM me. You pay shipping and I'll box it up and send to you as is. Seriously. I have the body on. Just need the front end assembled and add the details. One rear wheel broke off since the photos. But it is drilled to fix. I removed the other so it wouldn't sit too wonky when working. This should a been a Rat rod.

Our Ollies is useless, like so many other stores in town. THe WalMArt is just as bad when it comes to car hobbyists. Ollies rarrely has any good kits and rarely has any good paints. Or if they do, they never have them when I'm there so it's not worth the snipe hunt to find nothing. I do like the metallizers from Testors - will they be completely gone as well? I like the acrylic black paints. And rubber in a square bottle. Other than that, I can probably survive easily. Just like now, when I realize I'm runing out I'll have to place an order. Instead of bopping down to HL or finding an LHS. I'm not building as much now so it likely won't make too much difference.

Tamiya 1/12 Porsche 934
randyc replied to kpnuts's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Umm wow!! Again. -
Yeah I can't exactly figure it out. The valances seem a little shallow or something. And the rear may droop just a tad? IDK. If it stays this color, it will get a set of mags. I found a set of keys classics in my stash. Just sitting here looking at it on the coffee table, it might be the c pillars are too thick too. It's not bad, but it is a bit off somewhere. Needs some interior detailing. We'll get there.

Looks good. Keep building...

Looks good. Awful shiny though....?

Found this one in eBay last week. No matter how I searched, could not find another example. Seller had ONE photo. It was reasonably priced. I know color is mostly wrong. I suppose a guy could have custom ordered it at the end of 69? I haven't compared it to the 1/24 Testers kit body I have, but it is definitely 1/25 or maybe a tad smaller. Something seems odd about the back part of side profile as well. It needs some detailing and something got lost in the translation about the rear. The taillight panel should have Ben flat black and valance body color. I hope testors sublime will match. Unless I decide to repaint whole thing to a more proper color. Suggestions? What should we do with it?
