This would be a good topic in the tips section as well. I mean how many plastic kits have antennae? Not a lot. Another good way to fab one up. Would have to drill a hole for the base. I have seen several options for making. This is another one.

Nice! Been studying about that as well. Nice to see how others accomplish this.

EXCELLENT! THANKS! And yes I meant that emphatically! lol

Modelhaus Resincast 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix WIP
randyc replied to THarrison351's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yessir - I hope they put it back toghether. I also liked seeing hte "what did you get today" thread. -
It was the only color close to what I wanted when I was at Auto Zone. It is a pretty color, even if it is a bit dark for my original intentions.

Thanks. It has been a while in the making. I debated on the MCG detail set for the 59 Caddy, but just can't quite justify $17.99 for the set from MCG direct - 10.99 plus $7 shipping. Seriously? It can go in an envelope. I'll find it on ebay eventually. I'll pay the 10.99 and a couple bucks postage. I detached the girl passenger. Filling the hole she left in the seat. Inerior will be white - again to pick up on the scheme of my strat. Probably put the top back just to avoid having to build a boot. I have a stack of 032 plastic sheets that is probably an inch tall that I could make a boot from, but I'm lazy anymore. I like the paint and gluing process way better than making parts. Leftover scrap from old job about 10 yrs ago. I have a set of Franklin Mint wire wheels from the 53. Simple tube axles although I might investigate putting the 53 chassis under there like I did on the Jada 63 Caddy.

There it is. The beginnings of separation into what constitutes a "model car" or "collectible". The name of this forum and magazine is MODEL CAR MAGAZINE. Not Model KIT Magazine. For years, I held that preassembled diecasts were not "real" models as so many still do. However, while they are not assembled by the purchaser, they are still scale MODELS, replicas in the definition of word. So to avoid all the negative commenting that diecast doesn't count, I would prefer it to be left as it was. Yes, we don't build our latest acquisitions, but we can and do appreciate the models. Where else you going to get a nearly dead nuts perfect Hirohata Mercury? That's the prime example of what got me into collecting diecasts. And now I can get cars I can't get plastic of. Where can I get a 55 or 56 Packard Caribbean? 48 Chrysler Town & Country? I've buit most every kit that has been released and reissued since 1986. THe diecasts have given me a whole new set of cars to admire and appreciate. And there are others on here that feel that way. And I have both versions of some cars. I can get a really nice replica of something for about the same price as a kit and paints and detail parts. And it's built to a level that I can achieve, but with way less stress. I don't care a thing about adding plug wires anymore. More power to those of you that do. I admire you for it because I used to do that and know how much work it can be. But my 55 Chevy convertible has wires, carb linkage, opening doors, hood with scissor hinges, trunk, tilting continental kit. Really shiny paint. Looks great on the shelf with my Revell 55 that has way less detail. Plastic kit folks should really look at some of the later Mint diecasts to see the level of detail in the cars that were probably made hundreds per day. Those assembly line folks were cranking out thousands of models with details that folks here are asking about in the "how to" sections constantly. Unfortunately, there are those on here that feel that these replicas have no place along side their treasured plastic kits. I understand that feeling as well, having had it for years myself. But I still hope that the diecast section will make a return in its own section.

This is a post that is related to a post in the old diecast section. Jada 1958 Cadillac from Nightmare on Elm St. Just one photo so far. I was going to put it in that post, but I have no idea where it is and a search turned up nothing. SO here we go. I wanted to match Lake Placid Blue of my Fender Strat, but I think this is going to be a bit dark. I think it is Bahama Blue from DupliColor. Lid on can was lighter than this.

Thanks for the support. I think a lot of my friends on the diecast section. We seem to be pretty tight and welcoming as well. We all support each other's builds and it gives us a place to look at diecasts specifically. I don;t mind metal builds being in the main section, but I also like our specail area for just diecasts. I don't know where the slots would go, but a good conversion in either direction, slot to static or static to slot are always interesting. Especially if it's a build of something you can't get in a kit.

I agree, but it's mostly selfishly. My collection is mostly going towards diecasts and I loved having a special section to look at every day. Yes there were only less than 10 of us posting there regularly. But now all my stuff is scattered to the winds. I can't even find the stuff we were talking about. And as DJ said, there are a lot of builders who are going not going to care about diecasts. Or even worse, to complain about diecast not being real models. Maybe public outcry will bring it back to it's own special section. Now what I would LIKE to see is diecasts in their own section in the MODEL CARS section. Most folks seem to accept the resincast, but show them a $10 Welly diecast with full detail and internally hinged (not dogleg) opening doors and they say it's not a model becasue we didn't build it with our own hands. Never mind any work we may put into it to to detail or repair (if bought broken, like Franklin or Danbury Mint). We'll see. Heck I'm not sure where to post up. I sure don't want to post in a section where my model gets panned, no matter how nice it might be. At least in our own little world, we were all on the same page, literally. We were there for diecast specific information, be it builds, conversions, repairs, reviews, whatever. Please give some serious consideration to having a diecast specific section. Thanks Randy

Hooo yeah! NICE! Both of them! Would love to have something like that to cruise around in!

Thats a thought. Still don;t have room for it to display. There are TWO of them and they mean absolutely NOTHING to me. I've got hte Todd cars that do on display or in the queue to build. I started the Tamiya Morgan 4/4 this weekend. I do love a Tamiya kit. Everything fits without fiddling. At least til the end when it all comes together. If you didn't get it all correct to start with.... I'll be glad to send them to you though...

I * think* I'm just going to print some on regular paper, cut them out and white glue them. This will give them a bit of dimension and be easy to do with what I have on hand. We'll see if it really works like my mind says it will. LOL I already have art for a nice F100 and Custom script. And a set of signs for the doors I made up at work. "Junior's Gentleman Farm". He always wanted to be a gentleman farmer in his off time as a policeman. And when he retired. Reality wasn't kind to him though. We lost him in Dec 2019. So this will help my wife have another momento to him. None of this is 100% accurate as the FIL's truck was a 76 and had no signs. My wife doesn't remember the interior color but I've never seen one with anything other than dark green seats, dashpad, and door panels. The photo I posted looks like straight up Sublime paint, BUT there is more white than green in the mix. It's much lighter looking to the eye than to the camera. Ah those were the days. Just LOOK at the colors available. More than white and sahdes to black and one red and maybe a blue like today. I think the Winter Green is what the wife thinks it was. It's all fuzzy memories for her. But something had to be done to get rid of that gray/blue as bought. Yep. The color I mixed is much closer than the first green which would be the limestone green if it were a "poly" color. Hopefully the finished truck photos will show the color better. The phone camera really saturated this green. Being it's Testor's enamel, it will take a while to cure enough to handle. Just putting it together for this photo was scary. This was just long enough in the dehydrator to get it dry enough to lightly handle.

THAT's what I'm talkin bout!!!!

Both of these are very nice. THanks for sharing guys. The black wals wrok well on that black car. And Gramps, yours is very nice with the Monogram wheels. I have a coupld of the Sunny versions that TOdd sent me back in the day. Wish there was any kind of salvation for those. I think they may be headed to the Goodwill. Not worth the effort to ebay them. THat why Todd sent them to me.

Modelhaus Resincast 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix WIP
randyc replied to THarrison351's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hey Tim, I think our beloved diecast and resin section got raided and disbanded. My stuff is all over now. I'm disappointed, becuase my concentration is diecast now and I liked having a section dedicated to what I have or might like to have. But not my sandbox, so have to live with it or find another diecast forum. I know where one is, but not as happy with how it works as this one. Nice car, btw. Will keep checking in if I can find it! LOL -
Here it is repainted. This is sublime mixed with white. The real color is lighter than the photo. This will work.
-
This is the color my wife says her dad had
-
Oh my! Based on box art I would never buy this kit. I doubt I will at this point either. Will be glad to see yours. I have a cheap 1/18 diecast of some sort - that may have to do for now. And I think I have a couple of the 1/32 slot cars.
-
These were great kits. My wife at the time loved the real car, so of course I built one. And then another. Then the Cougar kit a couple times. Yours looks great and nice to see it come to completion after all the years.

+1 - I'd like one of those as well.

History of Monogram's GM F-Body Alston Pro/Stock Chassis
randyc replied to Fabrux's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I can't add anything, but I did read through most of your articles. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. -
Hmm, does compare favorably with the Mint car. And yes, the Monogram wheels look MUCH better. Nice score.
-
Hmmm, I didn't realize they went to all those length to end up naming the line after on of the Ford children. I just thought they named it after him and moved on to the next piece of the catastophic puzzle. That pink is still a pretty piece and a good deal to boot. I really like that AMT piece as well. That blue is sharp. I builton one in yellow and brown. Sold it. So it's kinda hard to reconcile myself to buying another one. But that blue is a nice looking car. I've looked at and bid on the wagons before. Eventually moved on without getting one. Thanks for the history and photos of all of them together.

Nice! I had the Fujimi curbside plastic of this one. I think I've sold it. But occasionally, I still run across the stock 240Z wheels that were in the kit in my parts stashes. Very nice addition to your collection.
