  1. These "classics" are definitely not like what most builders are used to. And you will use all of your skils in some way or anoter on these I think. But the results are pretty rewarding.
  2. So nice. Wish stuff like this was still available. I'm to a point where this is what I want to build and detail.
  3. Looks perfect for a weekend warrior. Or someone just messing with a fun car. I have seen stuff like this locally on the streets recently.
  4. I'm working on them a little at a time, but yes. Since I have several "classics" to work on, I have the figures on the bench and use them as time fillers while something is drying or curing. They need quite a bit of work. I have one figure's torso and legs sitting on the edge of the desk headless. LOL. I have put a couple of lead sinkers in his body to give him some weight. Will probably add one more in his hiney to make him sit even better. Wish I could figure out a way to make him wearing a pinstrip suit, but just don't think I'll be able to do that. Wife & I have been watching Boardwalk Empire lately, so I've been paying attention to the details on the gangsters.
  5. Nice scores guys. That F40 is cheap for the moment. Back when I had one from that collection, I sold it to the friend that wanted a bunch of the cars. At that point, the F40 was running at least twice that. The Cortina is nice. I might like one of those in 1/24. trying to minimize to one scale mostly now. But that does look great.
  6. Very ambitious to open these up. My admiration to you for your patience and abilities.
  7. No reason to crticize. Looks good so far. Keep building, see where it takes you.
  8. I am always amazed at Paul Hettick's workmanship on the resins and the finished cars. It amazes me that one person can go to the effort to produce this body yet the manufacturers are hesitant to produce more than one or two new kits per year. And they have full staff and everything needed at their disposal. I have little interest in this particular kit and car. However, I can see the workmanship that went into getting it just right. I am familiar enough with this body to see the nuances and subtleties that Paul captured. And it is close enough that if there are errors, I can't see them and refuse to look for them. I hope he sells every kit he makes at whatever price and method he chooses. I am quite jealous and inspired by Pauls workmanship and ability to sell at a premium price. That he can do that gives hope to the rest of us that build and sell occasionally. AS for lack of BIN, set yourself a max price and stick to what you feel you are willing to pay. If someone else gets it, then live with that if it doesn't work out. Thanks Paul for bringing this kit to fruition. It is beautiful.
  9. Weren't the Sunoco cars the non metallic blue? Sunoco Blue? I do Sunoco convenience store conversions at work, so familiar with the color. Every photo I've ever seen of a Sunoco race car looks like a solid color. I have looked at this one a few times and keep not buying it. Can't wait to see it modded up to more correct specs. Here is a link to the actual car: http://www.historictransam.com/Drivers/PatHoganCamaro6.html. You already said the graphics were wrong but they are pretty far off. Wheels were yellow minilites in most every photo I've seen, but I know wheels can change, even within a race. Looks like licensing issues with Sunoco - no Sunoco reference on this one. Detail the wheels and maybe a set of wider rims for the front and would look pretty good. This would seem to be developed for people like us and of a certain age, but still appeals to their regular crowd? I have 2 Mint 69 Camaro convertibles and a Napa/First gear. And I've built several Revell versions, so unless it pops up somewhere for a really good deal, I'm probably passing myself. But it does look like a nice Camaro replica to work with.
  10. I gave up on the pens and ordered the 30ml refill. Seems like I was doing more with a brush dipped out of barrel and the tips are too hard for me to manipulate other than for dots. I just hope my best tiny brush never fails me...

    Ferrari 250 GTO

I usually don't do Ferraris/Euro anymore, but this is making me want one! Looks Great!
  12. NICE! I keep holding onto the AMT version for "someday"...
  13. I have that book! Great history. Your build is looking great!
  14. Personally, I've not had the spectacular results with wet look clear that some do. I've tried straight from can and through the airbrush. I think it cures too quickly for the paint to flow out - typical lacquer? Then you rub it out to get it really smooth and slick? I'm new to it, so it is taking some time to get used to. I've had 30 years with testors and duplicolors.
  15. I've looked at several of those. Something odd about the leading edge of the hood. Droops too far or something? Not sure exactly what strikes me, but just too weird when compared to a real one. And if I see it, there has to be something there. I don't usually see the issues others do in body proportions. Or maybe it's right and I just don't see it correctly. IDK. I can see differences in teh Falcon and the Ranchero. But any kind of modded one would be fun to look at. The gasser is a neat idea. the lack of bumper lightens it up.
  16. welll what's the worst that could happen? I have a LOT of RR stuff and a couple Lindberg Dodges and NO JoHan bodies. LOL
  17. Many years ago, I used the DeSoto on the AMT RoarRunner Pro Street chassis. Used the RR interior as well. Everything matched up pretty well. And it was ProStreet so it could all be explained as "because Pro Street". Kinda like "because Roadkill" if you're a fan... Wish I woulda known the "now ME" back then and bought up more JoHan stuff. They look great on a shelf and you never miss the chassis detail when they are on the shelf. No one I know cares if I have the correct firing order or if my models even have engines. My wife likes Mint diecasts because she can open the doors. She's afraid of plastics becasue they are so light. BUT... Johan models have great bodies and look great on the shelf.
  18. I sent that photo to a friend that likes euro cars. These look good, but I don't do Euro much anymore. With that said I do look forward to reading your reviews of them and seeing them closer.
  19. My 53 BelAir. Closest photo I have in sunlight. And this car practically glows inside. I have this and a Lambo that's the regular testors fancy green. Need a comparison photo for that. Side by side, the Lambo is much darker and less vibrant. My 32 Chrysler in the under glass section has the root beer color on the fenders. Love this paint.
  20. Looks great! This is the exact kind of thread that is nice to find when you are researching a kit to find the issues. I'm not for this kit, but for any kit, this is a great resource to have! Thanks for posting it up as you built it and pointing out the things to be wary of as it gets built. Reminds me that I need to post up on my Lotus Esprit and the latest issues to handle...
  21. Cool idea! After finishing the stock version last week, this will be fun to see come to life.
  22. I never had any luck with the black BMF. Ended up throwing it away. And this was years ago - sounds like it hasn't changed.
