Great work on the top -lines are good!

This is a picture of the Alfa Romeo straight engine that inspired the V-16 design. Note that the cam shafts are centrally driven instead of driven from one end. This was to reduce torque twist. Essentially the engine was designed as two 4 cylinder blocks with the gear tower in the center, also driving the supercharger.

That is about the most complex engine I have ever seen. I'm thinking not a good fit in a Model A roadster?

Thanks again for the positive comments! I hope this is an inspiration to try new things! I did, and somehow everything came together even though I had no real plan. Sometimes instinct works out.

That's plain beautiful.

I believe someone did tool the Phantom Corsair in resin, in 1/25th scale. With today's scanning equipment (hand held, Faroe arm, etc.), a 3D model could be created and 3D printed.

Thanks, guys, I really appreciate the comments. When I started, there was no clear vision- it just sort of evolved. I think there would be some major overhang out the sides of a 29 roadster with that V-16, with the side mounted superchargers and carbs. Maybe a different intake system? But- what would be the fun in that? And of course- it's all made from junk! Check out lots more pix in Under Glass, New for 1949- the Hurricane Typhoon!

Alan requested more engine pix. Thank you all for the kind remarks- all of your comments address design elements I wished to capture and apparently I was successful! Here are some pix of inspirational designs. Now I have a question- has anyone used fingernail decorating tape for fine lines and striping? I have seen it in 0.5mm widths and in chrome and black. I was thinking of door lines and trunks lines as well as a small amount of additional chrome trim. Comments? Opinions?

Making seats look like leather...

I tried dry brushing flat light tan in the appropriate places to simulate old cracked leather. If you have seen Ed Iskendarian's roadster, the old leather has split and the stuffing is coming out. -

Is there a chance of a photo contest on the side? No way I can attend, but would like to contribute an entry or two that way. -

There was a thread somewhere in here about some people turning up their nose at modifying a diecast. Well, if a metal model of the subject is the only material available, go for it. Believe me, this is much tougher in some respects because of grinding die casting metal that is more like steel than zinc alloy (in this case). And here's a funny thing- modelers who use metal in their models (like the late great Augie Hiscano) got more respect! What looked like a great model under a lot of black paint ended up looking very different when stripped. I would love to have one as well, Saltie, but way beyond my budget. Lots of great photos on the internet. -
The grille and grille shell section alone is worth the price of admission! BTW, regarding insanity- check out the Hurricane Typhoon made from junk- aka egg crate grille and the car behind it.

Enjoy!

1946 Dodge Power Wagon

It's going to be a very weathered but very hard working truck. Named Babe after Paul Bunyan's blue ox. Made a headache rack from a roll bar. Cut down a tool box from the Nascar kits to fit on the running board. Dual vertical exhaust stacks through the running boards behind the cab. Cranked out windshield. And the hemi. Lots of chains, shackles, and tow hooks. And a trailer hitch. More pix when I get more done. BTW, looking through the post it looks like something got out of order. -
New for 1949! Introducing the Hurricane Typhoon! Two passenger luxury roadster! Boat tail styling inspired by the classics! Blade bumpers inspired by the Phantom Corsair! 800 cubic inch V-16 with dual overhead cams, and two centrifugal superchargers! 2000 horsepower! Six speed manual transmission with overdrive and two speed rear axle! 200 miles per hour! Nothing else like it on Planet Earth! Sorry, I couldn't resist- after all it was made from junk! Now for some pix. I decided that a couple of comparison shots with the Bugatti Royale and 1966 Pierce Arrow would give a good idea of just how large this 1/25th scale model is.

Thanks, Ace! Means a lot coming from you. I've learned a lot from your builds, too. -

Got a lot of weathering done- still more to do, of course. Will need to grind more in the engine compartment to make the hemi fit, and also grind inside the grille to adjust the radiator fit (too close to the engine). Used white pastel to weather the tires and did more on the seat. Mostly done with pastel rubbed on the area then worked with my finger (best) or a q-tip (doesn't stick as well). -
Make it a sleeper- put an Ardun flathead with fuel injection under the hood.

Promising! More!

Got some primer on the hull- now the lines are clearer than before- will need to be sanded and a second coat applied before planking begins- decided to go with the cedar planking instead of the strip wood.
