  1. For both, I've found it's more than enough to place a good coat of primer under them and then paint. Charlie Larkin
  2. Very nice, Al. How did you like working with Spaz-Stix? That bumper came out really well, and I might try it in lieu of re-chroming. Charlie Larkin
  3. Maybe some enterprising producer somewhere could do it. I'd like the '69 so I can do the MassSP's first 4-door cruisers. Charlie Larkin
  4. The wagon I found is indeed an 880, Tim. Very nice car in white with a red interior. I see at a car show there most years. I've always liked Buicks, they're most of what I've had over the years, although I'm not too fond of the "bubble" B-bodies. While nice cars, they have too many ticks (especially electrical/electonic and flimsy interior materials) for my liking. I know where I can get a decent '89 Electra Estate Wagon for short money. I've toyed with it somewhat seriously, but with all the money I have into my '94, I might as well keep it. Scott, I'm doing a little research on the '60s now. I'm trying to see if someone has one of the R&R '60 wagons they'd like to trade or sell, as it appears Steve Kohler doesn't have any more. Charlie Larkin
  5. Keep coming up with more ideas- I'll buy almost everything shown here. I'd love the Fuselage and square C-bodies. I know where there's a very nice 1965 880 wagon if someone wants to go measure it. It's a high-point restoration of a low-mileage original- sort of a combination of preservation and clean-up where needed. Yes, Scott, I agree- a Buick Estate Wagon would be welcome. I've had a '77, '91, '93 and drive a '94 now. One of the square 1977-90s would be cool, or one of the clamshell cars. A woody would also be welcomed. Want something a little different? How a bout a 1960 Invicta with the Western option? The Saab 95 is so weird it's cool, and the Volvo 140/240 are cars that have been long neglected by model companies and are way overdue to be kitted. That's one car I think would sell a lot of. I didn't think the hidden headlamps were available on Impalas? I know you could get them on Caprice and Kingswood wagons. I'd buy all of those, too. Charlie Larkin
  6. As I'm re-arranging (and finally moving back into) my bedroom, I've been considering how to set things up. As of now, the plan is to go with an old Boston School Dept. desk that my great uncle, who was the locksmith for the school department, ended up with. That'll serve for a work area. I'm also looking at some kind of small cart to rig a paint booth of sorts on with, complete with one big blower. The problem I have is space- I don't have much. I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze everything I need to into my bedroom- desk, bed, bookshelves, etc. Like the others, I say decent lighting, things at least somewhat easily at hand, and good lighting are a must, with reasonably good ventilation. Creativity will be what makes it all work. Charlie Larkin
  7. Gee, Bill, the choke butterfly wasn't rigged to work? I'm a little disappointed in you! All kidding aside, nice dressing-up on that engine. Charlie Larkin
  8. It wasn't THAT big- about fifteen pieces, but they sounded really good and the singer was excellent. Reminiscent of Billie Holliday. Charlie Larkin
  9. Another interview. And I found out I'm actually still in the running for the other job I had an interview for. Perhaps something will finally break...besides me? Charlie Larkin
  10. Try Drastic Plastics Model Car Club, they have a whole album of kit instruction sheets. They might have yours there. Welcome aboard. Charlie Larkin
  11. Agreed. Charlie Larkin
  12. Well done. Charlie Larkin
  13. This proves what I've said about 1959-60 Buicks... You either paint them in a dark, subdued color to tone them out, or go nuts and make sure they stick out like a sore thumb! Great job, Steve. Charlie Larkin
  14. Sometimes, "close" is the best you can do. And as long as you do the best you can do, nobody will fault you. Charlie Larkin
  15. The "halo" top was one of two styles, the other being the conventional full vinyl top, so you're both right in that respect. For a first attempt at a vinyl top, not a shot. The rest of the build is quite nice. Charlie Larkin
  16. Sound advice, no matter the field. Trust me, you're ready for the fancy tricks. Charlie Larkin
  17. Shaping up nicely. Charlie Larkin
  18. Given how horrible PACCAR and Cat are to deal with as far as licensing and so forth, is Mack REALLY that bad to deal with? I, for one, would really like a B-series. One of the local constrction companies has a couple of those that they still even use in revenue service, and are beautifully maintained. They'd seriously be show trucks if it wasn't for the inside of the dump bed, and I think they paint them before taking them to shows. A B-series tractor would be very nice. I'd like to see some 1940s-50s vintage trailers, too. Charlie Larkin
  19. Wouldn't mind this myself, or the Bonneville with the option to build with buckets, as you could per the factory. Charlie Larkin
  20. That CLS wagon is gorgeous. Wonder how hard it would be to get one built to U.S.-spec? Charlie Larkin
  21. I agree, the paddy wagon would be pretty cool, especially with options to build either an as-intended vehicle or modified into Ironside's rolling office with the phone, desk, lift and what I remember seeing in the premier movie as the mechanic describing as a "supercharged" V8- quite possible a Y-block or FE with a blower ended up being installed. It was wrecked about season 2 or 3, and then he got the Econoline. Charlie Larkin
  22. Interesting, do you have a choice of a big sunroof or a solid roof? I would prefer to do a solid-roof car (it's how I'd order it.) Charlie Larkin
  23. And people wonder why I've been quietly moving away from teaching, although I do keep my eye open for opportunities that sound interesting. Onto the main topic... YES! Practically all of these would make me a very happy camper. One other Packard that I'd like to see is the 1941 110 wagon. What a pretty car. Charlie Larkin
  24. Went to a really good big-band concert. Best part: it was free. Big band always pleases me. Charlie Larkin
  25. A very interesting story. I'll enjoy reading this. I always do, though. I like the colors, Mike. Did you use that Tamiya spray for the interior as well? I was up at Amherst a couple of months ago and I saw a '72 with that same bright dark metallic blue interior, and I was thinking "Olds Engine Blue really is a good match for that." That Tamiya blue does look right at home on a B-body. To my eye, and the eyes of many, it really is very close to the average of the couple of variations of the B5 blue that appeared. Charlie Larkin
