The new AMT Charger calls for a color on the chassis, and I think a few other parts called "EZ Coat Olive." I'm assuming this is a more modern automotive undercoat or anti-corrosive coating. I'm also assuming that a can of this stuff will dissolve plastic. Does anyone have a recommendation for simulating it? Charlie Larkin

I have a couple, and will be trying them. From what I've heard, they need to stirred quite a bit, but will brush nicely. The spray cans are similar to Tamiya lacquer by scent. I've used the flat light grey for an interior, and it covered nicely and dried quickly. They do come out fast though, so you have to work quickly to avoid flooding. Humbrol, from what I understand, used to make RoG's paints, hence the cans, but they've moved to their own formula. I have been advised to be very careful with anything not their thinner, as some people have had trouble, although as evidenced by the forgoing comments, that might not be the case with everyone. The base is similar to lighter fluid (!), so it's not traditional enamel in that respect, although if automotive reducer works, it might be safe. I have a bottle of their thinner to play it safe. What a neat build. The color is very nice; looks almost lavender with the pearl white over the pink. Charlie Larkin

Nice mild custom. Good work on the vinyl top. Charlie Larkin

Neither car is what one would call to my taste, but I certainly wouldn't say no to the accessory in the second photo. That said, the color on that one is really nice. Charlie Larkin

Oof.

Cool. What did you use for the walls, inside and out? Charlie Larkin

Parchment (white) was accented with black, regardless of interior color from what I can tell. A good way to simulate parchment is to paint the seats and door panels with Tamiya flat white, then mix a very small amount of Tamiya Titanium Gold into their clear, and airbrush it on. It's best to use an airbrush for the whole process, or spray the white from a can, and then airbrush the clear-gold mix. By small, I'm talking about ten parts clear to one part gold, plus thinning as needed to get it through the airbrush. Pontiac also offered a nice gold interior, Tamiya Titanium Gold, with flat and semi-gloss/satin as needed would work nicely for that. I think the carpet from what I've seen was more of a very light brown without the metallic. That would also look nice with turquoise, and would have been what was called an "acceptable" combination, so it was speical-order. Charlie Larkin

So far, so good. One nice thing about big-scale models....the parts are a little bigger, thus easier to paint. Charlie Larkin

1964 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible.

Absolutely amazing. I am curious, how did you separate the "Bonneville" nameplate for the dash so neatly, or did you make it from something? Charlie Larkin -
Well, it's plenty rusty, engine seems to be free. Transmission doesn't seem to shift, may need bushings or some linkage pins. My major hope is to have the bulk of the disassembly done this spring, and then get someone who actually know how to weld in to fix the floors, rockers, and the other spots that need fixing. Whatever happened to your car sounds terrible. Charlie Larkin

A very nice finished product. Charlie Larkin

The interiors were actually monotone, either grey or tan, more accurately, a very light brown. Tamiya has a nice flat light grey that's a good match for the GM grey interior of the vintage. Testors flat tan in the square bottles is a good start at the light brown interiors. You might want (literally) a drop of black for a little closer match. As to the body, GTUs as I remember were in black, white or Torch Red. Charlie Larkin

Nice job. I'm very impressed with the Vallejo metallic finishes. I've used the burnt metal on some manifolds, and it looks very good. Does anyone else ever hear the theme from "The Inspector" when they see French cars? Charlie Larkin -
Nice car. Hoping mine gets to be as nice when it's done. Charlie Larkin

Oh no, no, no. I have a 1:1 Coronet 4-door. This is it being dropped in my driveway a couple of years ago. Still trying to put money together, but with some luck, I'll actually be able to start doing some real work on it this spring when it starts to warm up a bit. I do have an MCW Custom Royal Lancer to build, and I'll be doing it in the same Jewll Black/Sapphire White/Heather Rose scheme as my car. Polyhead 270 with overdrive. It'll be a nice highway car once it's back on the road. Charlie Larkin

This is a beautiful piece of work. I may borrow some of these ideas for a couple of things I'm working on. Charlie Larkin

I love the idea of making the ultimate anti-car-culture car into an ultimate car-culture car. Charlie Larkin

I have a '56 and a bottle of Scale Finishes' Regimental Red, awaiting its turn. I was toying with doing mine in Caribbean Blue, which was a special-order color, and a few cars were built in it. I would also like to see a non-300 Chrysler, and a few DeSotos spun off of this tooling. I think an Adventurer would be a very good seller. You're doing a nice job on this so far. If you switch back to white, the instructions suggested Wimbledon White as a decent match to Cloud White. I believe this is the same as Sapphire White on my 1955 Dodge, and Wimbledon White wouldn't be a horrible match for it in scale. The '55 I have, and need to finish, is in black. The color fits the car well. Charlie Larkin

Amazing paint. I have to agree with Dave, though, the logo is kind of a distraction, although that's also well-done. Charlie Larkin

I like the color. The houndstooth decals look good, too. Charlie Larkin

62 Plymouth Station Wagon: Mighty Mopars Update

Spectacular! Yes, I do hope you allow a resin caster to make copies, as well. I take it you're attempting to replicate the Savoy wagon in the pictures? Charlie Larkin
