The body is actually a new tool, as is quite a bit of the rest of it, but it was done to the standards of the original, for better or worse. I'm tying to figure out how to do that side-spear. I'm seriously thinking about masking off the body, and using my Molotow marker to save hassles given how faint it is, and then foil the rest. Like you, I chose the Midnight Mist (Chevy's Daytona Blue), and from previous suggestions, found that Pontiac Engine Blue is a pretty good match for early-mid '60s GM blue vinyl. I used a mix of non-metallic blues for the carpet. It did come out a bit bright, though. I might re-do the interior if I decide it bothers me enough. You did a nice job on this. Charlie Larkin

I have one to build. I'm assuming you plan on using brass wire for the windshield frame? Which T did you raid wheels from? Which blue did you use? That looks about right from the pictures I've seen. Charlie Larkin

I'll be interested to see what you do with this. Remember, the '70 USA Oldies series has the Cadillac engine in it, so it won't be 100% right. I believe the original '70s have an Olds engine. The correct Toro engines show up on eBay periodically. Charlie Larkin

I tried embossing powder for the first time, and while not displeased with the results, I'm wondering what I did wrong, as it came out uneven and clumpy; that said, it's a closed car, so I'm not AS worried about it, but I do have a convertible coming up, and I want to see if I can get this right. After putting the glue on the floors, I sprinkled the powder on, and evened it out as best as I could with a paint-brush. I will disclose I painted the interior first, although that doesn't seem to have made much of difference in terms of adhesion. Should I have simply dumped the stuff on, shake the tub a bit to even it out, and then pour out the excess? Ideas appreciated. Charlie Larkin

MCW Paint - Spray Can
charlie8575 replied to bluenote's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I happen to have a can of Tru-Color spray paint in front of me, which is 4.5 oz., and is listed as 128 grams, which, as I understand it, would be roughly equal to 100 mililitres. The Tamiya cans are 100 mililitres. Charlie Larkin -
I might be in for a couple more '56 Fords for some of the resin bodies I want to get. The USPO Pinto might a fun diversion. I could get a nice little diorama out of that. Charlie Larkin

The color is spot-on, and I like the wheels. And the repair is top-notch. Gives me a great idea for fixing some other...problems I have. Charlie Larkin

Modelhaus Resincast 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix
charlie8575 replied to THarrison351's topic in Model Cars
Very nice job. I think I'm going to grab an MCW resin kit, and build one. Just need a more correct chassis. I'm told the Jo-Han 1960 DeSoto will work, but will need to be shortened a bit to get it to fit. Charlie Larkin -
I won't kid you, I was very worried about the cutting up of a very rare (and expensive! I've tried to buy a couple) kit, but I have to say, you did this RIGHT. This is one of the finest curbside models I've seen on this board. No joke. My grandfather had a 1960 Dart Seneca 2-door. Someday, I may try building one if I can find the 2-door sedan, I believe Modelhuas did one, I know he had a '61. What did you use for the top? Charlie Larkin

This came out very nicely. Charlie Larkin

This build, Steve, this has been an inspiration to watch. I very rarely polish out paint, as it seems no matter what I do to avoid it, there's a guarantee I'll get burn-through, especially on high spots, like the contours on hoods. I love this color and interior combination. Somehow, it says "Chrysler" to me. Charlie Larkin

That avocado-pea soup green looks about right, actually. I would have probably used a beige interior to break up the green (the Revell beige paint is a pretty good match for the Ford beige vinyl), and that hatch and engine are fantastic. Scott- love the USPO Pinto. Wouldn't be shocked if they actually did use a few. My dad had a 1973 Pinto wagon. We got rid of it was I was very, very little, so I don't remember it. He said it was a fun car to drive, but it died with 50,000 miles on it when the welds that held the front end in broke. He found this when he went out to do an oil change, and saw the front was sitting a bit lower than he remembered. Charlie Larkin

Translated from the German site by Google: "Another chrome spray" I hear many groan! But what we saw live in Bünde yesterday was really convincing! Great chrome, really grip after a few hours! But as always with paints and tools, your own application test will show how good the product is! I'm VERY interested in this, myself. Charlie Larkin

I stand corrected. 3D printing moulds is now possible, although I'd still want to do some investigation into costs; check out the video of a GIANT 3D metal printer being craned in. https://www.protolabs.com/services/3d-printing/direct-metal-laser-sintering/ Charlie Larkin

I'm not familiar with this. I'll have to do a little investigation. It sounds very interesting. That, and given the bent of the Greens, who own Hobby Lobby, I'm not sure they'd be so keen on selling a kit of a Dodge Demon. Remember, it was changed to Dart Sport at the behest of several church groups and at least a couple of full denominations. Charlie Larkin

The major problem with this, at least right now, is I don't believe any of the metal-printing 3-D printers are capable of making anything big enough to do that, at least yet. I suspect that'll change at some point sooner than later. Charlie Larkin

Mr Hobby Rapid thinner
charlie8575 replied to Marc1969's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I haven't used this, but I can tell you from experience of friends who have used Mr. Hobby products is they don't play well with other brands of paint, so it would have to be with Mr. Hobby paints if you were thinking of trying mix-and-match. Charlie Larkin -
I assume these will be at the hobby shops before much longer? Charlie Larkin

1/25 AMT 1965 Pontiac Bonneville Sport Coupe

Not quite as long, but I still have a few I'm finishing up from junior high school (1986-'89) and high school. College for that matter, too. With the skyrocketing prices, maybe it'll force me to finish up everything.... Charlie Larkin- 90 replies

Proof yet again that there is usually very little value in a bargain. Or, in this case, very many values, save for the pecuniary, also proving the ancient injunction of money being the root of evil, and the fuel for it. Charlie Larkin

Is it the cost of re-patriating the tooling, or some other issue because you're dealing with a weird Marxist-Corporate Fascist blend government? If the latter, just another example of Red China's thumbing its nose at the world's IP laws. If the former, a serious issue to deal with. Having looked seriously at starting my own manufacturing, I've started to discover that in terms of actual cost per unit, there's really very little difference between American and Chinese production, and that when I first started looking into it years ago. With these new container costs, this becomes a no-brainer. Being very serious here....I'd be willing to start manufacturing if anyone wanted to invest for stock in an S-Corp. I have ideas for about 4-6 cars I could produce and probably have decent success with, and a designer willing to work with me if I can come up with the scratch. And yes, all production will be done in the U.S., as I have a couple of moulders willing to work with me. Charlie Larkin

This is not an ad for Model Car Roundup
charlie8575 replied to Kit Karson's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It would be nice to see all the stock parts returned to them, too. I wonder who has control of those moulds now? Charlie Larkin -
These prices. ?? Some sort of cost control (and inflation controls beyond R2's control) need to be implemented. Not just models, but for everything, these price hikes are unsustainable. On a happier note....the light pack mentioned in the first post is at least intriguing. I'd like to see what that has when it comes out. Hopefully, some more interesting-to-me items will be coming.
