  2. A new trend is catching on in other parts of the plastics industry, and it's something the model manufacturers would be wise to adopt, too. Many manufacturers of different items are now 3-D printing the moulds themselves prior to picking up a piece of metal and putting it in the mill. The purpose of the 3-D printed mould is to test plastic flow, and also to inspect parts. The cost of doing this isn't cheap, but it's not particularly expensive, either, and the extra QA checks will help head off these kind of problems. Charlie Larkin
  3. As I understand it, the convertible has the Super Turbine 300 automatic. I would suggest removing the transmission from the engine and swapping it onto the V6 for maximum accuracy. Charlie Larkin
  4. The tire issue seems to be surfacing a lot with the AMT tires. Makes me wonder if the inner diameter on the newer tires was monkeyed with slightly. Charlie Larkin

  8. I would say $25-35 would be a reasonable price. It is entirely possible it could be more. I haven't really looked at them on eBay, as I've had other priorities for OOP. I should see if I can salvage my '88 I bought when I was 12...in 1988. Charlie Larkin
  9. I wonder how tough it'll be to covert this to a 240 or 302-powered mainstreamer? I might still build it as a Boss 351, too. It's a nice-looking package. I'll probably build it in some sort of blue besides Grabber Blue. I assume the standard range of interior colors were available? If this succeeds, I would be very happy to see Revell (or R2) do a completely-correct Challenger (talk about overdue!) and a new Javelin or AMX (or both). I'm actually surprised the Javelin hasn't been done, it seems to be one of the most-requested kits, especially any time a Mustang/F-Body is mentioned as upcoming. Charlie Larkin

  12. I'm amazed that they re-tooled the IH. The re-tooling program, all those years of basically re-issues....and the strong sci-fi sales. I think we car/truck people are finally seeing that pay off with this, the Nova and the Cutlass. I might get one, and yes, I'll give a shot at building it. The Courier is also of interest.   20. 1. That is really coming out nicely. 2. For right now, I'm using my sun porch, so I completely understand about the less-than-idea painting area. And, because there's no plug on the porch, I have to open the window in the kitchen, and run my airbrush out the window. I have a Craftsman 6-gallon pancake (great little compressor that does a lot well) that lives next to the kitchen table. At least with the sun porch, I have a ceiling fan and opening windows, so it does vent reasonably well. As far as a permanent station, my nearish-term (probably this summer) plan is to mount a small spray-booth to an old printer cart I got for free from a company that was going out of business. I can mount the booth on this, and move the compressor up into my main work-room. 3. Michael has had any initial problems resolved. The paint he's selling now is working correctly and, in some ways, seems better than before in some respects. Charlie Larkin
  21. I must say, you've picked a striking combination. The mid-1960s GM red is close to some of the reds used in the era, so it's not a bad choice, and would have been most eye-catching on a big car like a Lincoln. Regarding the availability of colors, particularly with the major shake-up of Testors by Rust-Oleum, and, despite their statements to the contrary, the possible end of Testors altogether being something that could happen, it's not a terrible idea to consider investing in MCW or Scale Finishes paints and an airbrush and compressor. I've found both MCW and Scale Finishes paints, while expensive upfront, are very economical. The airbrushing has generally cut my paint consumption dramatically, and many of the colors can be used for other applications. In addition, MCW is releasing hundreds of brushable enamels to replace the Model Master line. Not cheap, but having tried a couple of bottles, I can say it's the paint Model Master always wanted to be. Charlie Larkin
  22. You're a lot braver than me. I probably would've used an MCW resin to start with. The 1960-'62 Chryslers/DeSotos have a more correct chassis than a B-body, they just need to be shortened a bit. My dad learned to drive on my grandfather's 1960 Dart Seneca 2-door sedan in Spruce with a Slant-Six/3-speed. Charlie Larkin

  24. The 1963 Galaxie is definitely one of the better classic AMT kits. You did a nice job on it. Charlie Larkin
