Those, I remember reading in Collectible Automobile's model section, are confirmed gone. That said....with the new re-creation program, it may not be an issue much longer. I suspect R2 watches the swap meets and eBay. Charlie Larkin

'40 Ford Early '60s Style/Remembering a Friend
charlie8575 replied to Kromolly's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I really like the color. If you decide to clear it, I would suggest using Acryl Gloss Clear, which won't yellow. If you can't find the Acryl anymore (thanks, Rust-Oleum!), you could use Vallejo or another good acrylic. The enamel clears will yellow. Glosscote spray, I believe in lacquer, but I'm not sure. I know for certain Dullcote is. Charlie Larkin -
Conversion primarily for Police enthusiasts

How utterly ridiculous. I would try calling them directly, or sending an e-Mail. I'm sure something can be done. When I'm asked for a phone number, I just use my home phone unless it's absolutely necessary to use my mobile phone. Worst case, there's always the option of a money order, certified, or bank cheque, and 2-day mail for a tracking number. Charlie Larkin -

I'm hoping these will be available sooner than later. It looks great, and as a builder who likes main-streamers, I can definitely see myself getting one or two of these. Might even try my hand at a police car. Charlie Larkin- 115 replies

The color works nicely. I like the interior on your pickup. That would probably be a pretty safe bet to use as a direction for this build. Alternately, if you want something a little differnt, Scale Motorsports offers seat-cover decals in the pattern of western blankets and similar things that were semi-common in the cars of a high school kid/young adult in the mid-1950s-late 1960s. Roden 1/35 1941 Packard, anybody have one?

They do this in 1/24, sign me up. Charlie Larkin -
From what I remember, all '49 Fords had a grey interior, regardless of exterior color. That said, a custom interior wouldn't be out of place at all. With that cream-yellow, I think a nice tan or dark red tuck 'n roll interior would be cool if you want to do a mild custom. For a more subtle custom, you could do a beige or tan (or two-toned in the brown/tan family) that would mimic the factory upholstery pattern. Charlie Larkin

I always thought Chevy's marketing people missed a golden opportunity with not calling the deluxe Nova the Super Nova, as a distinct model from the Nova SS. So, Chevy II 400 it is. I have to say, I'm VERY pleased with the new AMT kit. Easily one of the best of their recent products, and I'm looking forward to the next round with the new-design 6, and hopefully a PowerGlide. I originally planned to do a two-tone with Testors Classic White and Silver Blue. I discovered that all the problems I had with Silver Blue over thirty years ago with another can hadn't changed over the years when I tried to two-tone it. The Silver Blue was also pretty close for the base interior color. Even over primer, it failed miserably. So, I switched my color scheme to black, using never-fail Tamiya Gloss Black spray, and for a little fun color surprise, I painted the interior in aqua using craft paints that, at least according to the pictures I saw, were pretty close to right. I've been poking at it the last few weeks, and will probably wrap it up this weekend. I'm debating re-doing the windows, as the tinting came out a bit darker than I planned. Enjoy the photos. Thanks for the updates, Larry. I know you guys are doing everything you can, and the situation 2021 is thus far still in is not helping, I'd imagine. Charlie Larkin -
The interior is shaping up nicely. I think you've convinced me to change my planned order of builds. Charlie Larkin

No, the Revell paints (and Tamiya) have their own thinners, and you should use that for thinning paint. I'm talking real 50-cent/bottle craft paint, like Apple Barrel or Anita's. For cleaning the airbrush after any water-based based, have a bottle of 90% rubbing alcohol ready, and spray it through immediately, or you will have a problem. After spraying it through, back-flush the airbrush by blocking the nozzle with a paper towel. In the case of acrylics, and absolutely in the case of your Paasche H (which I also use), disassemble the airbrush, wipe everything down with a paper towel/napkin, and if you have some, run one of the disposable pipe cleaner (as in pipes you smoke) through the cone to make sure it's clean. If in doubt, soak the cone in the appropriate thinner (alcohol or lacquer thinner, which can be used for any solvent-based paint) for a few minutes. Charlie Larkin

Repairing clear plastic window scratches
charlie8575 replied to Nelly's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For very fine/light scratches, I've actually found toothpaste works nicely. Use toothpaste, not gel. Normal toothpaste has a very fine abrasive in it, gel doesn't. I've also used the Novus Steps 1 and 2 polishes with success. Charlie Larkin -
What is your home-brew thinner? I ended up brush painting some aqua craft paint on the interior of my Nova, but if I can get it through my airbrush, I'm thinking it might start to be my preference for interior colors, largely because of the wide variety of colors available. Charlie Larkin
