  1. Well I just think it's a pity that Italeri didn't do it right and cut corners in that area when mostly everything else is updated and good and the quality would have been even better if they had done it right. If they had tooled up the DC16 engine when it came 20 years ago it would have been correct for the kits from that time up to today as the differences between the versions of them are small, so the tooling would for sure have paid for itself after 20 years of use and it will be more as this engine configuration will stay for a long time yet. But, that doesn't take anything away from your build Tiago, you are doing a good job and I understand your confusion when you did the research and found a completely different engine than what's in the kit...now you know why.
  2. Cool, I will follow this closely as it's an era I like. But his name was Hubert wasn't it?
  3. Silly and overpriced is the least one can say about this, I mean $60 for an empty box with instructions...well hopefully no one will go for that scheme.
  4. Hehe, yeah...and they wonder why the don't get any bids.
  5. Yes I saw that, so you are only off by 1.12 mm...good eyeballin'.

  7. It looks like you are very close, 180 inches is slightly over 180mm in 1:25th scale, 182.88mm to be exact.
  8. I don't know if the CO-4070B Transtar II Eagle was available with that type of air ride, I just have heard that reason for the change.
  9. I think the last model kit with beer advertising was the Revell Kenny Bernstein Budweser King Top Fuel Dragster from 2002, it was marked as an "Adult Collectible - Ages 21 and Over". So if Round 2 is going to have the Miller Beer decals they probably have to do something similar to be politically correct.
  10. Unfortunately this "car" is no more, the driver of this car Jessi Combs known from the TV shows Mythbusters and Overhaulin' died August 27th 2019 after a fatal crash caused by a front wheel failure at 550 mph, may she rest in peace.
  11. You're welcome...glad I could help.
  12. I believe the standard wheelbase on the K100 with the 108 inch Aero Cab was 180 inches measured from the center of the front wheel hub to the center of the tandem, the chassis in the kit is a lot longer.

  14. I know Rickard (RickArt) quite well, he does great work and his Roadster model is also inspired of this Roadster. I asked another friend of mine about the Roadster and it was as I suspected, Mikael (the builder) sold it some time ago.
  15. I have done it several times and it works great if you want to knock the shine down and get the right look. You can also spray the chrome plated parts with a transparent color, for example yellow to get it to look like gold plating or brass.
  16. As far as I have heard the rear suspension was changed in the 4070B kits because IH wanted ERTL to change it, they had stopped using the older air ride by the time the 4070B came and it was changed to walking beam instead, so Round 2 might have to do the same changes if they want a 4070B model kit to be correct.
  17. Yes, Joe was sponsored by Valvoline so it's dark blue, the picture below is taken by myself at the NHRA Museum at Pomona CA some years ago. Joe Amato was sponsored by Valvoline several years and I think the car above can be a year or two later than the year the kit is supposed to be wich was 1989-90, the blue was slightly darker then...but it's definately blue and here below is his 1990 car when he had the #2 as Gary Ormsby took the title from Joe 1989, Joe was champion again 1990, 1991 and 1992 and before that he was champion 1984 and 1988. Most of the engine in fuelers are aluminum since they started to use aftermarket blocks and heads, the clutch can was steel and later titanium, fuel lines are often stainless braded hoses with red and blue AN fittings, red magnetos and a red or black blower blanket wich is a bag that's supposed to contain the blower casing and rotors if it explodes from a backfire, black or silver hold down straps wich are there to prevent the blower flying off when the engine backfires, ignition wires are red, black, blue or yellow. Here is a picture of the engine in the car in the first picture taken at the NHRA Museum a couple of years later. The more modern fuelers from the late 90's and up to today has a carbon fibre injector hat, titanium valve covers with shields to prevent the spark plugs flying out and many black parts like the MSD magnetos, hoses and AN fittings in the fuel system and other stuff. So there are not many colors on a nitro burning engine.
  18. Don't mention it, I'm just glad to be able to help out, and I will continue to do so if I can.
  19. Well it's what I have read and that there has been some trouble with the tooling so something is up. I wouldn't know why Tomy would keep the tooling for the farm equipment and the Cab Over IH as they are not doing anything in 1:25th scale...so it's a bit strange.
  20. Almost anything is possible with todays technology...it's just a matter of what they think is economic to do and how well they predict the kit would sell.
  21. Are you sure about that Tim, I read somewhere that Round 2 couldn't find the tooling for the Co-4070B Transtar II Eagle and that it might not have been together with the other tooling when they bought it from Tomy...so I don't know but some problem has it been with it and the last time it was out was around 1996 and nothing after that. I mean, people have asked for the Transtar II Eagle kit for many years now and Round 2 reissued the Transtar 4300 in 2009 and if the tooling was allright for the Transtar II Eagle it would have been out by now wouldn't it. So I wouldn't get rid of the CO-4070B Transtar II Eagle kit just yet if you want one if I were you Roger because who knows if and when it will come back.
  22. Stuart, I'm not sure he does because as I said, I have not seen it for quite some time now. You now have every picture I've got on the Roadster and if they help you out I'm happy. Tim, It's the president of my car club who did the flames, pinstriping and lettering on the Willys and the lettering, pinstriping and gold flake on the Roadster, and it's a bit fun because his name is also Micael...spelled a bit different but the same name as the builder of both the Roadster and the Willys. Here is Micael's 1961 Oldsmobile taken at a Wednesday evening coffee meet at the Museum in our town, he painted in with a lot of different techniques and different paints like pearl, metal flake, lace painting, gold leaf, the pinstriping and other stuff and did everything at home in his own garage. By the way, he doesn't do this for a living, he is a certified electrician and is a high school teacher for electricians now, so does this on his free time.
  23. As I understand it ERTL changed the original A version tooling to the B version so the A couldn't be done after that, and from what I have read it seems like Round 2 can't find the tooling for the CO 4070B Transtar II version in their inventory, it most likely still exists but might not have been included when they bought the AMT-MPC-Ertl toolings from RC2/Tomy, like the 1:25th scale Massey Ferguson, John Deere and International Harvester farm tractors, trailers and plows wich also seems to be missing, Tomy still owns the ERTL name and probably kept these plastic model kit tooling for some reason. The CO-4070B version first had the same air ride suspension as the CO-4070A and the F-4270, it was changed to walking beam early in the production and the air ride B kits are rare, the stack is single as you say and the air intake system is also different on the B version.
  24. One thing we can add is that most people calls all cars with the front up in the air Gassers but it's not really so as the class rules was pretty hard on what was required like engine placement, interior, lights, fenders and such, so Gassers were pretty much close to street legal. Cars in the more free Altered class also had the same nose up in the air stance back in the day and many cars people call Gassers are in fact Altereds as they don't comply the rules for the Gas classes.
