Neat...looking forward to the reissue, never built this kit. What year did the original issue come out?
-
I need to build some of mine and post pics...I started watching F1 (and Indy Car) on TV as a kid in the late '70s, and was a big fan through the '80s an and in recent years after going to a couple vintage racing events have become fascinated w/ F1 and sports car racing (Le Mans, Sebring, etc) of the '60s-70s, with the cars and the drivers...been building a collection of DVDs of racing of that era (season by season coverages and DVDs on specific drivers). My older sister is an even bigger F1 fan, she got into it in the late '60s.

Beautiful build. I've gone as far as open the box on mine and study the instructions and parts trees, but have yet to start it. Love that era of F1...

It's getting to the time of the year I hate the weather in AZ...May through Sept can have many triple digit days. But at least I have a pool, cold A/C, cold beer. I've lived in the Midwest (E/NE Ohio, SE Michigan, Chicago), Colorado (Colorado Springs, Denver) and S. Florida (the Keys) in the past, each area has it's own ups and downs as far as weather...

Renault Magnum - Smashed!!!!
Rob Hall replied to tiking's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I thought the same thing...Nice work..that would make a great diorama surrounded w/ scale bricks or water bottles... -

Hmmm...the cab & hood are a bigger scale than the chassis and wheels? Or is it an optical illusion? Trippy... -
Custom parts in current kits
Rob Hall replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't think I've ever used any of those custom front and rear ends in any AMT (or MPC, Johan) kit...never cared for them..I guess the customizing age was before my time.. -
Pretty cool..wouldn't have realized it started as a Predicta...about the only thing I might have done differently would have been to shorten the roof, since the side window openings are sooo long..

'79 Buick Skyhawk Resin Kit?
Rob Hall replied to W-409's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Never heard of one..pretty obscure subject. MPC did a kit long ago of a Skyhawk from '75-76 or so (similar to the Chevy Monza annual kit). That kit could probably be updated to a '79 w/ a bit of scratchbuilding. -
Nice to hear they are still in business..I used to go there a few times a year when I lived in Ann Arbor in the mid '90s. Riders in downtown A2 and on Carpenter Rd were my regular local shops back then.

Strange business practices?
Rob Hall replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nice..my pool is only about 75 degrees now...should be able to get in later in May, though, as the triple digit temps approach. -

Same w/ models, on a smaller scale.. Each type of content in a kit involves different manufacturing processes---the styrene parts depend on molding tools that are in some physical plant somewhere (and RoG kits tend to have those in Europe), the decals are printed by a decal printing specialist, the instructions by another source, the box by a box vendor w/ specialized printing...the nature of the global supply chain results in those functions often being in different geolocations.. -

Just the nature of the global supply chain in modern business... -
A new-tool '56 would be interesting. I'd like to see something that hasn't been done before in scale in Ford trucks, like a '67-72 F-series or the new Raptor.
-
Interesting...well, they did do a 1:32nd kit of the '07 Shelby a few years ago, so maybe they are trying that scale again..

What does "r/t" mean
Rob Hall replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And today, Mopar has SRT--which is 'Street & Racing Technology', not 'Street Racing Technology' Or how about Toyota's TRD? That trim level always looks like it's missing a letter... -

Corvette was a type of British warship, I think. -
So it looks like the followup will be a '64 or '65 Falcon Sprint convertible. IIRC, wasn't it originally announced as a '65 Ranchero or am I mis-remembering? About the only qualm I have about buying one of these is the price point--is it really worth twice a Revell new tool? I'm used to paying $40 or more for a Fujimi or Tamiya, but it seems wierd for Trumpeters...
-
Yeah, like w/ the COPO Nova...my PP LHS got it in late March while OLDs got it in April..

A couple online vendors are now showing the '62 Impala SS for July, so who knows...
