  1. There have been liscensing agreements since the beginning. It was different years ago however. Some auto companies approached the model companies to make promos (JoHan, AMT, MPC) with the knowledge that perhaps kits would be developed from them. A liscense was just that, an agreement between two companies. As Don said, lawyers got involved or accountants thinking a bit of money can be made here. Also, companies are becoming increasingly protective of their property, trademarks and processes.
  2. I thought the wagons were built in Mojave, not South Bend.
  3. I sure have been seeing a lot of people write letters and making posts from Port Orchard. It must be an omen of some kind. I have a good friend who lives there. She is a writer, publisher, artist, archer, dog breeder. An all around rennaisance woman.
  4. I always thought speek was the plural to spook.
  5. I saw someone posting a bunch of kits they bought at Detroit this weekend. Amongst the pile of kits was a HHR rersin body. No response as to who made it yet.
  6. This is what i have for display. I was at a friends house and he had his models all displayed in nice cabinets, so I bought mine.
  7. Our model club had an auction today. I got a Lindberg Daytona Coupe built up with the wheels from a Fujimi GT40 already installed. It's primered and built clean so it shouldn't be too hard to make into something nice. Plus i got a daisy Duke Jeep and a Ford Thunderbolt Fairlane kit.
  8. Many on here have refered to the Volt as a hybrid. It is not. It's engine in no way is connected to the driving wheels. It operates when the battery power goes below set levels and turns a generator that allows for electricity to keep turning it's electric motor. A Prius can be driven on it's gas engine alone if the battery fails and it is directly connected to the drive train. Volt operates much the same way as a train locomotive. A locomotive's prime mover (engine) powers a generator that turns electric motors at the wheels. Also, these cars are indeed bought by people who want to be noticed as driving such cars, which is why you hardly notice the Camry hybrid for what it is...it's just another Toyota Camry.
  9. Here you go http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12168
  10. I could build that for you. You got an extra $10,000 laying around? LOL. BTW, the company I work for has old molding equipment we use to mold Simson plug ends to some test cables we make. It's quite old and had the ability to be changed into whatever config the dies required. Damned thing leaks and makes a ton of noise, but it still works. I don't know who made the machine but it has ARTOS components and Allen Bradley switch panels. Not like the modern Van Dorn units I worked with when I worked at Sussex plastics molding mary Kay and Avon boxes
  11. I've worked as a busboy, pizza delivery guy, gas station attendant when I was in HS. Travelled the US, Mexico, and Canada for three years hitch hiking in the early 70s. Worked as security for tent evangelists. Cleaned fish at a packing plant. Hauled dead bodies out of flooded areas in WV. Roadied for Dave Laflamme during a California tour (It's A Beautiful Day) and worked eight years as drug rehab staff member. Sold used cars and was the lot boy in several dealerships. Refinished old furniture, and ran to gas stations for the non profit drug rehab I worked for. Drove school bus, served subpeonas to hard to serve people ( I got shot at so i quit) Did some work as a comedy stripper for hire (dressed in a grass skirt and a couple of coconuts dancing to Blue Hawaii) Drew cartoons for Car Modeller magazine. Since 1991, I have worked for a wire harness manufacturer doing coaxial prototype harnesses for all major companies needing those things. I also run my own DJ service to the car show organisers. I only do car show and related events...no weddings. I also am an automotive artist drawing cars at car shows.
  12. Nice on the 200. I had a 84 Duster hatchback. I miss that little rocket
  13. Me too, especially this one. He had a rack that was the biggest I've ever seen...it was quick, but I would say a 15 or 16 pointer. Someones gonna get a nice buck come hunting season
  14. Score!!! Grails!!!! MPC The General Locomotive for $8 MPC 65 Polara $100 AMT ZZR Spy car $100 MPC 33 Chevy Panel truck assembled but clean $ 20 Doyusha Invader (old Eldon tool) $30 AMT 1960 Edsel Convert $80 I am now happy. I have most of my grails
  15. Last night driving in a night rallye, I came over a rise to find a big buck standing in the road. My ABS kept me straight, but it sure looked like I was gonna have "grilled" venison. Then he just calmly walked away like he owned the road. I was shaking for a while.
  16. I would be so interested in the Howmet. One of my grails. Hope you get back to me with a price.
  17. Noticed the tag on the box. I live not too far from that place. Hobby Horse hobby shop is long gone though.
  18. G Scale comprises everything from 1/29 to 1/22.5. Most buildings done in G Scale are in 1/25th. Most of what I see in the plant is 1/29 for rolling stock. Yup! My boss bought a company that sold G scale trains. They call it Wisconsin/Illinois Trains. They are just selling rolling stock, locomotives, track, electronics for DCC and sound, and some building kits from various makers like Bachmann, LGB, Pico and others. I'm trying to get them to take on a line of figures.
  19. An old book I revisited "They Call Me Mr. 500", the story of Andy Granitelli. First read it in High School, then just recently again. Just starting the Dodge Story too. Also A Day In The Life Of The Soviet Union...a photo essay of a single day by several photographers during the beginning of Glasnost. For fiction, currently reading the Presence series by Charity Becker. Her writing is darned good. I am a bit biased I think because I proof read her first in the series, Presence: The Awakening. It's about a girl named Mina who encounters several supernatural entities. A great twist on a genre.
  20. I keep mine in the garage and also in storage when I had no garage. I've had nothing happen to them that I can see...on the plastic or otherwise. I live in Wisconsin. I just keep mine high just in case of leaks or rodents. Don't forget, most kits are on board a ship from the far east for an awful long time in metal container boxes above decks.
  21. I had family members steal stuff from me. They are no longer welcome in my home...ever. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but if someone steals from family, they are the lowest of the low.
  22. I would like to remind those in Wisconsin to come to the Wisconsin Street Rod Association's Corn Roast on Labor Day weekend. On Sunday, we have a model show/contest. Times are from 10AM to 2PM. Awards are awarded based on votes, similar to an NNL event. It's in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin held at the County Fair Grounds. Cost is $5 to enter grounds but contest is actually free, no matter how many cars you bring. Enjoy the car show, the free corn and all the cool stuff we have going on. This car show actually goes on from Friday night to Sunday afternoon, but the model event is on Sunday.
  23. Hot Rod isn't a mag about what most term "hot rods". It's about what they think is cool and what people are doing to their cars. Even in the 60s, that mag had articles about the latest stuff from Detroit. If you look at the term Hot Rod as a verb instead of a noun, I think you would get the gist of the mag.
