What can we learn from Steve Jobs?
lordairgtar replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Visionary? Genius? Tech icon? All of these for sure, but also a horrible person to work for. -
Correct pronunciation of MOEBIUS?
lordairgtar replied to jeffs396's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Pronunciations are a funny thing. I really can't stand it when people pronounce JoHan, yo hahn. It's Jo like Joe, and Han like Han Solo...JoHan! -
1/25 AMT '76 Gremlin X 2n1 coming from Round 2
lordairgtar replied to SteveG's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for posting this. I do want a Gremlin kit. Also, trying to use Spotlight's forum gives me a headache. After clicking maybe five posts, I give up. -
Can you post an image. It won't load.

The purpose of an internet forum is social interaction, education and more! Just google it! How sanitary. I can google to my heart's content looking for something, but not everything is within Google's grasp. That's where forums come in. Not only to find a certain item, but perhaps to find out if any problems are there. Like a hard to build resin body, for instance. I'm looking for Renwal 66 Revival kits, I googled and only one or two pages popped up that were of any use. So onto the forums I go. Maybe the threads are more for social interaction than just getting an item. Stop looking down from your Ivory Tower and cut people some slack. This would be a pretty dead forum if everyone "googled" it.

Nice station wagon. I really enjoy the builds by people from other countries besides the US. I like to see their interpretation of our cars.

I just picked up Johan's 1968 Ambassador. Paid way to much for it, but it's mine. Mine I tell ya! All Mine!!! Mwahahahahaha! -

My GF always seems to come home with a kit I don't have. I don't know how she does that. I mean, she does know what my interests are, but I think she's going into the garage and memorizing my stash. -
I now some PD used some odd choices for patrol cars. Cotati, California used Mazdas in the early 70s. You can understand my surprise when one pulled up to me to ask questions of me. I was hitching through the town. Some California cities had late 70s, early 80s Novas as squads as well. One odd car was the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Corvette DARE program car. I saw it pull over a speeder once. Must have been on the way to a car show or school event.

Went to a rummage sale and got the 1/16th scale Lindberg Wells Fargo Stage Coach kit for $5. I see the Concord Version going at $80. Not sure what I'll do with it, but I couldn't pass it up at that price. It's tape sealed and I haven't opened it yet. At a car show yesterday, I picked up a Revell Porsche 911 Targa with extra detail parts included. I guess I have to cut open the trunk and engine cover it seems to build it. This was $5 as well.

37 ford truck grill
lordairgtar replied to BIG-JIM's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At one time, I, and another person who sold T-shirts with car drawings on them, had a discussion with the possibility of doing cars without the names or model names on a given car. In other-words there would be no "BelAir" or "Chevrolet" call outs on the art. GM pretty much told us that even the shape of the car is their property and we would still have to pay a royalty or licensing fee. This would have been my own artwork of the car on the shirt. Similarly, my father's 1961 Chevy wagon had three original wheel covers and one that was just a tad different. Where the word Chevrolet would have been, it was a series of little dots or circles with the bow tie replaced with a rectangle surrounded top and bottom with a dash or line slightly shorter than the rectangle. It was a part from JC Whitney. -
I'm working on that same kit off and on. Also the Pyro Renault brass car. Some had actual plating that looked like brass and others had the gold colored plastic. LifeLike ones had grey plastic for the metal parts. My Renault has the brass plating. I have two Caddys, one with gold plastic trim and the other is grey trim.

Know your 50s Cars???
lordairgtar replied to MikeMc's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got 98% too, but my mistake was on the years of the Mercurys. I know the 51 and the 56. The other two are so much alike that I screwed that up. -

Need help finding correct sponsor decals!!!
lordairgtar replied to W-409's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you know the driver's name or the main sponsor, you might find better pics of the decals. Also contact the driver himself and ask. -

Best place to buy kits?
lordairgtar replied to Pastor Plastic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Two awesome hobby shops in the Milwaukee area. Model Empire which discounts all the kits a couple bucks right off the bat, plus they have OOP stuff for sale as well. Then Greenfield News And Hobby. Huge store with all kinds of art supplies and crafts plus Model Railroading supplies, RC, Armor and Military models. They will order stuff for you if it's not in the store. They even search other stores in the midwest to find the kit you need. They accept my model club membership for a 10% discount. There are other places in the area, but these two are the best. -
