Early 50's road/race special
Dave B replied to Dave B's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Got it looking how I want it to. With the belly pan it would be fine for the race track or lakes. I'll finish the suspension off then start on the flathead. Dave B -
Early 50's road/race special
Dave B replied to Dave B's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
It's going to be a parts box special, purely fictitious, but doable if you were a young guy in the early/mid 50's. Something you could drive to the circuit, or lakes, run and drive home again. Dave B -
My mate always said if he ever got a third '35 Miller Ford he would give it to me and he did. I always thought I would build it almost box stock. After looking at it I decided it would need a part frame to hang the front suspension. I then thought maybe a full frame to include the rear suspension. I had an old AMT '36 Ford chassis spare so I started cutting and shutting. Seeing I could fit a frame I then thought it would be great to fit a flathead. It all looked doable so my quick build is going to take some time!! Not going to be too flash but it will be different. Tks for looking Dave B

Ok, for various reasons I have ended up with 3 projects on the go. First of is my A6GCS. An expensive file that turned out to be a solid block of resin and the wheels wouldn't print. After having a friend hollow it out my mate Phil could barely get a body out of it. He did manage but what I got was always going to be a lot of work. So, into the interim I had bought a cheap file of a 33TT12. I got what I paid for but Phil managed to print me one in basic resin. It's fairly brittle and no matter how much care I took removing the supports pieces of the body broke. Nothing a little epoxy putty couldn't fix. Another old mate received an Indy '35 Miller Ford. He already has 2 built and had always promised me one should it be forthcoming. It was and I had always intended building a 50's American sports car special out of it so that's under way as well. Not sure which one will be the first finished but at least I have a choice!! I'm also waiting for a file of the Ford DFV 3L (P68) to come on special. I'm checking every day. Dave B

That's a great collection Gary, there can't be too many sports/gt racing fans of the 60's that haven't built 1075. Dave B

Model Builder Poll

This is my take on Fangio's 1953 Carrera Panamerica winning Lancia D24. When I saw the 3D file for sale I just had to have it, love this car. Luckily I have my old mate Phil to print it for me and also provide me with the decals. So after a little work on the old filament printed body it's now finished. Wheels are KA Models photo etched wires and headlights, taillights, etc are from my plastic/resin stash. Finished in a home mixed auto acrylic red and clear coated it can now join my other 50's sports racing cars. Now onto the'53 Maserati A6GCS. Tks for looking Dave B

Looks great Rich, you sure do knock them out and they would all look good in my display case. Lucky for me I only build 3-4 a year, I'm out of display space!! Dave B
