  1. I built that kit long ago. The version I had didn't have any plated parts, and there were no model plating services, BMF or chromelike paints. I had to use putty to put treads on the two-part plastic wheels, and everything came out great. Wish I had kept it.
  2. Thank you for your information, Cato.
  3. I had no idea how detailed this kit is.
  4. Harry, how does this compare to the similar method on the Mercedes SS?
  5. Amalgam is amazing. They did several cars in the Ralph Lauren collection, which were offered at $10,000 each.
  6. The Monogram version of this is quite inaccurate. They just added a separate top to the cabriolet kit (which has different fender detail, among other roadster anomaliesplus different side louvers on the hood). You can see some of the differences in landman's post, above. The 500K coupe and roadster above are by Jo-Han and are excellent and highly accurate.
  7. Same here.
  8. Excellent.
  9. Ditto. Just the chrome strip on the spare tire is amazing by itself.
  10. In either case, I would assume that, as patent leather, the fenders would be somewhat shiny though not glossy, as seen on the recreation at the Sotheby's site.
  11. The Sotheby's website says the rear fenders were made of flexible patent leather so that loading the balloon basket wouldn't cause damage.
  12. Beautiful work.
  13. That water manifold is quite detailed -- is it straight from the kit?
  14. The wheel wire is vinyl? Seems different from the Mercedes SS wire. Will it assemble tightly?
  15. I got it, too.
  16. Are there required fields?
  17. ?. Yup. Mother's HQ.
  18. Bless you, Gregg.
  19. So good to hear that you're getting a bit of relief. Please keep us updated.
  20. Looks like you're heading for the finish line, and I can hardly wait.
  21. Wow. Spectacular.
  22. Perfectly said. Please note that access to his fund is linked in the HELP HARRY topic pinned at the top of the General forum. From what I've seen, Cato and Darin Bastedo started the ball rolling on this, but we all need to keep it going.
  23. Looking great, and your description of the choices you made, and why, is top-notch.
  24. I believe this subject should be raised here in the General section because not many members scroll down to the Off-Topic Lounge. However, this subject is relevant to the functioning of the forum, the magazine, and moderator Harry P's contributions to modeling, all of which belong here. If you didn't know, Harry is battling colorectal cancer; his income has dwindled to a trickle (he is not paid to be an MCM moderator, and he has basically kept the forum alive single-handedly) and he needs help to pay his medical bills, thanks to poor insurance. Please go down to the Off-Topic Lounge and contact Cato for information on how to contribute to his gofundme account. Just the price of one model kit can help. Or go directly here: https://www.gofundme.com/2pndgj5w?utm_source=internal&utm_medium=email&utm_content=cta_button&utm_campaign=upd_n
  25. Nicely done, good photography.
