While not auto related, this for me is my "pride & joy" model. Built for my late father-in-law as a birthday present. Looking at it now there are things I would have done differently/better, but at the time this was where my modeling skills were at....

Okay, at the point of installing the chassis to the body I have run into a HUGE problem with it seating properly in the front. I can't see where the inteference is coming from & the interior tub is securely glued into the body. But the front splash pan sticks out a mile below the chin spoiler. If I apply copious amounts of pressure it will line up, but I don't want to clamp the body & ruin the paint (black, of course) Anybody run into this with this kit? Suggestions...? TIA

New pics under the sun.... And a couple of engine shots thrown in.

Revell kit, wheels, tires, disc brakes from Dodge Copperhead kit, engine from AMT '41 Woody kit. Color Testors Root Beer Metallic from the can with Testors High Gloss clear enamel wet-sanded, polished. Wheels, bumpers, grille, etc. painted in Alclad Dark Aluminum. Hope to get more decent pics when the weather clears-up....

Thanks for the kind words! Mathias

A few updated pics as I wrap things up. Thanks for looking, Mathias Monterey, California

Engine installed in the bay & detailed, chassis complete. Now on to the interior! And yes, the engine came from the AMT '41 Ford Woody kit.

Couple of engine pics.

Couple more teaser pics with the wheels on. May have to see how the rear ride height is with the interior tub in place, don't want it to be a tail-dragger.... Will be spraying the clear coat today also.

http://i42.photobuck...er/100_9265.jpg So... body is in color (Testors Root Beer) bumpers & grille are painted Alclad dark aluminum, as are the wheels. Started painting & detailing the flathead. Will be adding plug wires & possibly some fuel lines to dress it up. Next up will be final prep & paint of the chassis & interior. While prepping parts for paint I noticed my kit came without a dash (Doh!), already contacted Revell for a replacement part. More to come... Mathias

Wow!!! Oustanding! Mathias -
Need some detailing ideas for the motor. Anybody have any built/detailed pics of this particular motor? Definitely will be adding plug wires, maybe some fuel lines, etc. Thanks, Mathias

This is the Monogram 1955 Bel Air kit that I built for my wife. She picked the colors/style. This was a nice OOB build. I've been building mostly aircraft for a while, so this was a nice change of pace. Have a few more in the works. Some amazing, inspiring builds here! Mathias Monterey, California

Been lurking here a long time. This is my first post & hopefully not my last. This is the Revell '49 Merc. I am going for a retro/modern look. Plan is to paint it a Root Beer metallic brown with the "chrome" parts stripped & painted in a matte aluminum to match the wheels (Dodge Copperhead kit). Engine is from the '41 Ford Woody kit by AMT. May still change the wheels, not sure yet. Mathias Monterey, California

Great work Curt! I've got the same kit languishing in the "to be built" pile. Just finished the Tamiya '98 season McLaren. Looks like we are in the same neck of the woods. I'll email you next time I build another F-1 model. Mathias Monterey, CA

Hi JT, Ordered one from the Modelhaus, so I should be okay. We'll see when it gets here. I do need help with obtaining the hood scoop & that funky outside rear-view mirror, looks like it's off of a British car. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mathias
-
Hi JT, Actually I just ordered one from the Modelhaus. Going to see how it looks, & if it doesn't work will try a similar photo-etch grille I found. But thanks anyway, will keep it in mind just in case. Mathias

Hi Jairus, One more quick question. The wheels look like they might me from a Trans Am era Mach 1, would that be a close guess? Mathias
-
Thanks Jairus! That gives me some more useful info. Once I get hold of a kit it should be very doable/ Will have to figure out something for the grill, if anything is possible. Looking forward to the challenge!

Okay Everyone, I am in for this group build. First time I've done something like this so be gentle. Here is my luck-of-the-draw selection: a "Falconero" Anybody happen to have the old AMT Ranchero kit floating around? Mathias Monterey, California
