Dave Van replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
COKE is paying Amtrak on that one.........R2 pays Coke for the Coke model kits. But yes....Coke has some cash on hand! -

Great craftsmanship!!!! -
Maybe lazy has something to do with it........but dealing with the morons that seem to be the majority of the public today have a bigger impact. Being permanently disabled and at times limited to my wheelchair the idiots I deal with are mind blowing. Once I was at a big box national chain and needed to visit the restroom. The restroom was empty other than someone in the handicap stall.....so I waited. After about 15 minutes this guy, without any visible issues, newspaper under arm. When he sees me sitting there in my wheelchair he gives me a 'sorryyyyyyyy'. Lots of jerks out there. Moore shutting has more to do with not competing with JoAnn and Hobby Lobby......my wife shops them all....Moore is not even up to JoAnn for selection......even less than HL. It's hard staying relevant and competitive.

I have been making decals since I hand painted my own on paper tape as a kid. My way...not the only way... Start with a clean and glossy surface. Use whatever method you like to get there. I like a clear spray like Testors gloss coat or Tamiya. Regardless of decal type here is how I apply decals. I cut the decal from the sheet as close to the image as possible. I have a small pair of scissors that are sharp and easy to cut around small images. Using tweezers I dip the decal in warm water for about 10 seconds. I place decal on a damp paper towel and allow the decal to ‘cook’ as its called. This can vary by decal paper maker. It can be anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute or two. When decal moves easily on paper backing it is ready to apply. On surface of model put two or three drops of water. With tweezers place decal on model body where you want to apply. With your finger move the decal image off the paper just enough to use your tweezers to pull the decal paper from under the decal image. This will keep as much air out from under the decal. Position the decal image in the exact spot you want it. With the slightly damp paper towel blot the water from the decal. Making sure the decal is positioned in the correct spot, make a squeegee from the damp paper towel and from the center of the decal out to the edge squeegee out all the water and some of the glue. This will keep the decal from turning yellow as it ages. IF needed I will use Walthers Solvaset decal solution. Go light as it is a strong solvent but works Well for me. After the decals dry for a day or two I apply a coat of Future Floor Shine with a 1 in wide soft sable brush that is only used for Future. Allow to dry overnight and all should be good!!!

Your mods to the lower body really help in that last photo......I'll keep in mind when I build one. -
Nice and neat job!!!! On my list of builds for my 'PROJECT '88' series...

You did a nice job on that OLDS!! The kit is not a bad kit. But it did suffer a number of inaccuracies in the first version. The biggest issue with long time NASCAR builders was the rear suspension. Leaf rear suspension was not legal for that year OLDS it had to be some type trailing arms with coil springs. Salvinos corrected this later but the correction was not very good either. 1/25 correct trailing arms next to Salvinos 'fix' trailing arms. There are a few other errors......some of them Salvinos has fixed....a few can not be unless a major re-tool. I am very happy Salvinos has entered the kit market with subjects long awaited. I just wish they had taken some of the help offered early on in the project....the kits would be GREAT rather the good they are now.

Nice work!!!! I've always thought of doing this type build with the Pink Panther kit........The door always bugged me!!
-
But as you too noticed the 'wrong' car it was not just me. Everyone complains of CGI, I not a fan either, but wish they had done small things like CGI the billboards around the turns at Fontana away to give a little better look. Fake the J car too....... Still a great film I'll see again. Thx

Gofer racing decals have a number of sets.

Pretty sure there were a few Holman GT's too........

Disclaimer: I'll admit I am bias. A lot of the story is kinda told through the eyes of Ken Miles son. I'm about the same age as he. Dad was not a racer but head of Valvoline racing 1960-70. And like Miles' son I tagged along to many a race. We lived in So Cal, I went to many of the places in the film.So take it for what it is........ The film is lots of fun start to finish. Most of us know the overall story but cool to see it played out on screen. For the vast majority they got it right. Yes....if a race car spins there will be fire. That's what Hollywood figures the audiences need. Not a deal breaker. They did NOT have to add any Hollywood drama to the racing, at night, in the rain at Le Mans.....these guys had guts! I'll not give any real spoilers......I will say the trailer is a little misleading which is good as there are a few surprises.Bale looks like Miles and becomes him. Damon is good, but not as good.....maybe because we know Shelby better and he was a tough one to play. Everyone else is good in the film.....I'd like to know if some of the corporate bad guys were really that 'bad' (can't use the words I'd like!!). I'll go again before buying it on BR to sit and freeze frame it. Little things I didn't like: Daytona was really Fontana with safer barriers, digital scoring pylon and corp suites above pit road. The big billboards around the outside.....lots of wrong details. 90% of folks will never know.......but why not go to Daytona??? Star Wars speeder sounds added to the GT40 sounds. Again....what Hollywood thinks we need. I've ridden in a big block mid engine car....it ain't a Speeder. Some cars were not correct......I'll not say more less I spoil......but they could just as easy made them correct....why not??? In the end A+ Thanks
