Powers that be say not gone....but as time goes does seem odd......

Calling it junk is a bit harsh. 'Vintage challenge' might be more correct. Don't know that I'll buy one......having a built version don't 'need' one..... but who knows. Another view. And yes...I built it over a weekend as a fun build to see what I could make of what was in the box....

Quick Overview: Revell Starsky & Hutch Torino

Got time to take some quick pics.....enjoy....... Got my S&H Torino build #2 complete. A pretty much box stock build other than wheels and tires. I still have to add the front tag....it was drying still. Box stock build with Tamiya Bright Red paint. Kit decals went on very well and reacted well to Walthers Solvaset to help on curves. The S&H build next to my first build of Bill Elliott's NASCAR Torino.....Bill's very first CUP ride. Added plug wires just for fun. You can see that the ARII slots and BFG tires are bigger than stock. Maybe a tiny bit to big....but a very 70's look for sure......my real 66 Mustang had tires much too large in 1976!!! I really like this kit....... Bill's CUP car is sitting on a Monogram Thunderbird chassis. Testors custom mix white and #1108 blue. Penngwen Hobbies decals. I know this kit is not evertones favorite recent issue. But the kit is well done and is designed to bring new folks into the hobby. When Revell looked at the iconic cars of TV and movie....all had been done in plastic but the S & H Torino. And with the demise of all Duke's kits.....this could be the go to kit for newbies and grandma's across the country. Either way, like it or not, an important kit for the hobby. I plan on another 4-5 builds.........the 'Dude's' up next..... -

I agree it's not perfect....I can't see the issue you note.....but I may be blinded by my love for the car!!! After building two so far....my issue is the wheel arch trim. Back trim is a little heavy....but easy to foil!!! Front trim is almost missing....left side worse than right........DIFFICULT to foil. thx -

Just finished mine tonight...take some photos tomorrow. That's two S&H completes for me.....started the 3rd tonight. (one Bill Elliott Cup NASCAR racer and one S&H version) I got to talk to Revell at Toledo NNL......the delay was to get it right. The tool maker n China just could not get the car right from the A pillar back. In my opinion they did right by re-tooling it until it was right. While many folks don't like the subject matter and praise kits like the new 29 Ford......this is an important kit. It came about when Revell was looking for a iconic car, think Duke's Charger, that had never been done before in plastic kit. There is a film about the most iconic cars in TV and film. Of the six cars featured in the show....the S&H car was the only car never kitted. So it was picked....and a good choice IMHO. Good kit....builds well....opens many other builds......like a 72 notch back being shown here.....a number of famous race cars from NASCAR and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I myself thank them for it. -
This version with the card stock display..........hmmmmmmm Or a new spooky display for Hearst Woody....
-
Picked up 2 of them at Ollies latest blow out. Nice work!
-
What an ugly reissue......... R2 does a better job than RC2 did......retro box, display stand and go back to duel skinny slicks on rear and I'll buy two more. Maybe a 'Surf Hearst' box and display would be good.
-
A reissue with the cardstock display would make sense!!! Seems to be the current trend.

Neat, clean cool lookin build!

When the Hobby Town franchise system was pitched to us many years ago at the RCHTA trade show we went and met with them. We had an established hobby shop already but the promises they made sounded good. But we said no thanks. The fees were high in our opinion. We knew the hobby biz very well so they couldn't help us there. And their advise and merchandising was not worth the fees either. I used to visit Hobby Town stores all over the county....all closed now and in major cities. I think their fee structure added to changes in the hobby added to lack of disposable income....perfect storm.

Never easy......we lost our 13 yo Manx recently. You gave many years of care,,,,you did good.

New Revell NASCAR kits
Dave Van replied to martinfan5's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
THAT'S FUNNY!!!! Those are my glasses I'd taken off to look at the kit!! Your photo?? -
COOL project!!! Not sure why the WB is a tiny bit different from Revell to JoHan......but not too hard to fix. The Revell kit opens up a number of conversions. Add the 72 rear bumper and alter the grille to the S&H and you get a 1973 notch. I want to build a Big Lebowski 4 door myself.
