  1. My replica of Corvette SR2 #1 is finally completed. It has been 18 years since the Mini Exotic transkit was won in the raffle at the Portland NNL and probably about 14 years since I started construction. Most of the build details are in my On The Workbench posts at http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/127254-corvette-sr-2-under-glass/ This model is a close replica of how the car looks quite recently. The car was built as a racecar from a stock ’56 Corvette for the son of GM’s styling chief Harley Earl. The styling was influenced by Corvettes built for speed runs on Daytona Beach. It was further modified and painted blue after the second SR-2 was built from scratch for GM’s engineering boss Bill Mitchell. The under body and chassis has recently been restored so that is why it is red underneath. The engine originally had to twin four barrels before being equipped with Rochester Fuel Injection. The dual throttle bodies were added much later during its vintage-racing career. FINAL DETAILS Paint is Humbrol #52 Metallic Blue White scallops are self-adhesive vinyl but wish I had used thinner material to prevent wrinkles Owen Craft door handles [no longer available] Licence plate light from Revell 427 Cobra Taillights from Revell ‘58/59 Corvette Lower front vents opened up and mesh added Decals –White Corvette SR-2 came with Mini Exotic kit. Others are self-made from Internet images. Flag is signed by Zora Arkus-Duntov, Jim Jeffords who raced SR-2 back in the day and Robert Cumberford – one of the designers Clear acetate windscreens Could not resist painting the Hot Wheels SR2 to match
  2. Cool looking racecar. I like the exhaust system
  3. Very nicely done Vette.
  4. Spectacular! This will either scare off or inspire other GSL common kit entrants.
  5. Very interesting model. I was not aware of this Gurney race car. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Nicely done but I would substitute the theme from Magnum PI for your soundtrack!!
  7. Intriguing engine choice. Goin to be very cool.
  8. Dan would have loved it !!
  9. I am very surprised that this is your first completion since 2009 but I am very happy that you are building again and how appropriate it is a new Corvette. I am looking forward to seeing your future model builds.
  10. Great looking models and beautiful tributes to Dan Gurney.
  11. Nicely built. This was the pole sitting car of Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt which did not finish the race. It was a great tribute to Dan Gurney that leading the pace lap of this years race was Dan's '66 Can-Am race winning Lola T70.
  12. Congratulations on an absolute masterpiece!!
  13. Fantastic detail. Beautiful built model.
  14. Very cool looking Mini.
  15. There is probably unchopped diesel powered '49 Mercury somewhere in Cuba.
  16. Truly amazing. Is this the future of model building? Will we download a model program to our 3D printer to produce all the parts to build a scale model?
  17. Looking forward to seeing your 612 Underglass.
  18. Thanks Ismael and Bob for posting your 612's. Both really enhance the original design and still look fresh after all these years.
  19. Ismael - I would love to see your 612. Please post here and that goes for anyone else who has built a custom 612. I will change the topic title to Ferrari 612 Customs - more than one. This is the other 612 Custom I did. By the way I would like to thank you for the Scale Corvettes website you did a number of years ago. It was the first place I ever posted a photo of a model car I had built.
  20. Love the livery. Sort of reminds of the DX livery which has always been a favourite of mine. Very nicely built Corvette race car.
  21. At the pre-Christmas car modellers brunch we had a model car kit gift exchange draw with the idea that these models would be built for the first get together of the year in January. I ended up with a Revell Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. Since the kit gift exchange was more or less my idea, I figured I had to have mine built for the January meeting. I had previously built another custom version of this car so was quite familiar with the kit. Because time was of the essence I decided to build a curbside model with the hood glued closed however I was not interested in building it stock. I was inspired by a 1/1-tuner version built a number of years ago by Imola Racing of which I found images on-line. SOME BACKGROUND INFO - I have only seen one 1/1 612 and that was at the Monterey Historics shortly after it had been released. I was impressed by its large size but disappointed by some aspects of its styling. With my first 612 model I attempted to improve some of those styling deficiencies. These days the 612 maybe the most affordable of the recent V-12 Ferraris with the average asking price between $100 and & 120,000 US$ and has the bonus of being a four seater. For example black low mileage 612 sold for $115 at the recent Barrett-Jackson auction.
