  1. Glad this came back. I really like it too especially the shape, the color, the Mobile Pegasus and how the driver is steering into a corner.
  2. I love the weathered after race look and the wrinkles in the tonneau cover. Fabulous model.
  3. Fabulous model in all respects. I love the shape and the color. To me it has the look of a Grand Prix car set up for speed trials.
  4. Thanks Larry Thanks Tim - I too have seen the Camaro a couple of times at Laguna Seca. Also saw the D2 there and managed to pose the model with the real car and afterwards Jim Hall signed the bottom of the model. I took another group shot of the Grand Sport posed with three other C2 Stingray Coupes - Don Steves/Dave MacDonald, Big John Mazmanian, Washburn/Edelbrock. The fastback C2 Corvette is one of my all time favorite cars. There are at least a couple more racing replicas I want to build.
  5. My Cannonball entry is a 1953 Ford Victoria. This is not an all-out road legal race-car but a car initially prepared for the Vintage Class of the Carrera Panamericana Revival open road rally. As such it would have been extensively modified under the skin for performance and safety but within a limiting set of rules which required it stay somewhat close to stock. After its Panamericana career it was converted into a comfortable, safe. high-speed touring car with the following modifications made specifically for open road events like the Cannonball in mind. EXTERIOR Front splitter and rear spoiler for high-speed stability Spotlight added to center of grill and fog lights installed outboard Racing style fuel filler to fuel cell [not visible] INTERIOR Comfortable supportive seating for four Roll cage allowing access to back seat Center console with drink holders, storage box/arm rest and shifter Dash has extra gauges and a navigation screen ENGINE COMPARTMENT Dual master cylinder Battery removed to the “trunk” [not visible] Bigger radiator mounted in front of forward bulkhead with electric cooling fan ENGINE & TRANSMISSION Y-Block Ford V-8 Latham Supercharger with 4 side draft carburetors 5-Speed transmission Side exit low restriction exhaust CHASSIS Lowered Big disc brakes High performance tires
  6. Stunning model. One of the nicest I have seen. As mentioned by others, the engine compartment is especially well done. It is hard to tell precisely from the photos but it looks like you may have added inner fender liners/engine compartment sides which are unusually missing from this otherwise very complete kit.
  7. Great to see a GTO in a non-red livery and I think it is very interesting that models of two cars Roger Penske actually raced at Sebring in '63 and '64 are simultaneously Under Glass. Roger's Team Penske has a very successful year in 2024 with an Indy 500 win, a NASCAR championship and some wins with the Porsche 963 GTP.
  8. Superbly built. I concur with all the other well deserved accolades.
  9. Yours might be the best looking since the real thing. I was looking at a small pages publication just the other evening featuring the Tweedy Pie. Notice how comfortable Roth looks in that little T-Bucket !!
  10. Thanks Jim Thanks Garry - I am looking forward to reading the back stories on other Sebring models built Thanks Andrew - I am looking forward to seeing your updates Thanks Rich - I bought the Grand Sport book shortly after buying the kit so many years ago but only read it in detail while building the model Thanks Chris Thanks Pierre - Your WIP on your Grand Sport was a huge help to me. Thanks everyone for your much appreciated comments - I could not resist posing the Grand Sport with two other Jim Hall cars I have built models of. The 2D was self converted from the Daytona spec kit and the Trans-Am was converted from the split bumper kit.
  11. When I built my Gulf liveried Porsche Tractor as an April Fools joke I did not realize people would actually race these !! For a good laugh have a look at the YouTube video from this years Rennsport linked below.
  12. This model was built for a group build on this forum to closely resemble how the 005 Corvette Grand Sport raced at Sebring 1964 by the Jim Hall – Roger Penske team. When Chevrolet withdrew factory support of the Grand Sports, 005 was sent to Jim Hall for the 1964 season. Jim Hall was busy preparing his Chaparral’s for the upcoming racing season so he sent the car to Roger Penske’s facilities for race preparation. [Due to a regulation change the Chaparrals were not eligible to race at Sebring in ‘64.] The 005 qualified sixth overall and actually lead the first lap of Sebring ’64. Five hours in a half shaft broke which the team replaced with one commandeered from a Corvette in the parking lot. After a lengthy repair 005 finished 18th. The 005 was distinctive from the other two Grand Sports entered in that for most of the weekend the hood louvers were taped over and it had two differential oil coolers mounted on the rear deck. Missing from the 005 Grand Sport were the horizontal chrome bars on the front fender vents and the grill up front. The front turn signals were either non-existent or set deeper than the other Grand Sports. I am very happy to have this project completed as it definitely was a struggle which I chronicled in WIP posts [link below]. There is a lot to like about this kit but some of it just does not go together very well without modifications and manipulation
  13. Race preparation of the #4 Hall-Penske Corvette Grand Sport 005 was completed today and it is now ready for the Sebring 1964/2024 grid. These are the first photos taken with my phone. I plan to do a proper photo shot and an Under Glass post in the near future. I still have not heard the full story on why the Hall-Penske Team taped over the hood louvers and left them that way for the Road America race in September 1964 and Nassau December 1964. Maybe the original reason was to prevent rain getting into the engine compartment but the team must have found it advantageous for other reasons because Road America was a dry race. - ???
  14. These Motobiltz wheels and tires look like a great solution. In terms of 13" vinyl tires -the AMT Tiger has skinny and wide. Here are the Mini-Exotic wheels with narrow tires.
  15. Congratulations for completing such an ambitious project resulting in a great looking model. I really enjoy doing this sort of modelling myself -trying to create a replica with what I have on hand with my own imagination and skills.
  16. Very good looking Resto-Rod Deuce.
  17. WOW Tim - thank you for asking and allowing my '29 Ford to join this illustrious group of models as it might have done if I had been able to attend the last GSL. This model was built a number of years ago but I always considered it a GSL worthy model. I am a longtime fan of the late Dan Gurney and have built models of a number of cars he raced. This is a model of the first car Dan Gurney raced in a sanctioned event - Bonneville. It was owned by his buddy Skip Hudson and appeared in the background on the first color cover of Hot Rod magazine although there was no mention of the car inside the magazine. I corrected this oversight and created a revised version of that Hot Rod magazine which would have been displayed with the model at GSL.
  18. The Mini Exotic Lotus Cortina resin kit I got from Gerry Chevalier a couple of years ago comes with steel wheels that I assume are the correct size. Gerry is on Facebook and might sell you a set of wheels and tires.
  19. You are amazing. Have you ever thought of building a full size car?
  20. The body is now painted with Tamiya TS-26 Pure White so is ready for final clean up, polishing, assembly and surface details. The modifications I made to the body can be seen in these photos. Up front the molded in grill was removed and brake cooling ducts were added to the outboard of this area. The forward edges of the rear fender flares were tapered slightly down the wheelwell opening. Because the hood vent areas will be taped over, I filled in this area rather than installing the complex photo-etched louvers. Out back the molded-on oil cooler was removed. Later two scratch-built differential oil coolers will be mounted on top of the rear fenders. This will be the last WIP post. The next time you see this Grand Sport it will be Under Glass sooner than later.
  21. Very cool. Some great detail like the ejected CD and all the equipment in the trunk.
  22. Thanks Tim for posting the entirety of the GSL '29 Ford Common Kit Class. If I had been able to attend GSL I would have brought a '29 Ford as one of my three carry-on models. It certainly would have faced stiff competition.
  23. Love GT40's. I bought the Thunder Valley kit 25 years ago but was always intimidated to start it. It is finally now on my build list for 2024. As much as I am a fan of the Gulf livery I plan to build the Canadian Comstock Team GT40.
  24. Excellent build and photos. Vibrant exterior and interior.
  25. Thanks Dan for your encouragement. I have started the painting process so I am hoping to have it finished by mid November
