Model Weight....
Agent G replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's a whole lot of variables involved in this. The actual material involved, size, and volume are the major players. We once used a formula similar to Foxer to achieve the scale weight of a Sherman tank. The real deal mikes in at roughly 35 tons, logic concludes the 1/35th scale tank would weigh 1 TON. It doesn't, scale weight would be on the order of 24-25 pounds. Now you tell me how I can get that plastic model to weigh 25 lbs.? Maybe I could add enough of something to fill the voids, but what? Now if I accurately replicated the scale tank in like material, steel, steel, rubber, and more steel, I think I'd get there. G -
Cheap paint to practice airbrushing
Agent G replied to lukeeluciano's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Do what Don suggested and go one step further. I take a large piece of cardboard, set it up, and begin practising by writing my name. I draw designs experimenting with the AB trigger. More air, more paint, etc. My compressor has a regulator so I experiment with pressures as well. I also play around with paint to thinner ratios too. This will build your confidence in the AB, and add a really good tool to your model building tool box G -
I'm in Nevada, but the wife and I love New Mexico. Does that count? G

Terry I use Klean Strip "Medium Drying" laquer thinner I got at Lowes. It has a product code of QML170 on the back of the can way down in the lower left corner. It works great with Tamiya acrylics also. G

John, yet again you present another spectacular build. Don't take this wrong, it's just my personal observation, I don't like the angle of the bottom of the bags in relation to the rest of the body work. There, I said it, stone me folks. G

Jonathan I stripped the chrome and sprayed the whole wheel with Tamiya dark gunmetal over flat black. I sort of "misted" it on so it had a semi gloss sheen. Then I used good old Testor's "chrome" from the small bottle and painted the rims and lugs. G

I built this from a spare '29 bodyand chassis, flathead from a '49 Ford, and a bunch of scratchbuilt parts. G

Mr. Super Clear question
Agent G replied to peekay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
First off Mr Hobby products (Gunze) are no longer readily available in the states. This means very few folks here have experience with the product. I also do not. If it is hotter than TS 13, my advice is to "sneak up" on it by using multiple light coats. TS 13 easily screws up a base coat if it isn't completely dry, so this will do even more damage. Sorry Mate that's all I got. G -
A compressor with moisture trap and regulator is a must have tool for that tool box if you use an airbrush. It will pay for itself time and time again. That said, I build a little bit of everything, cars, armor, some aircraft, and have recently gotten into ships. I have five airbrushes that I use for different purposes depending on what I am building at the time. No one says you must use an airbrush to be a good modeller, hell I rarely use one on a car build. I'm not that good a modeller though......... G

Tamiya Famo
Agent G replied to Customizer's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Ron that StuG looks great too. WWII German armor offers so many variables that nearly anything is "accurate". Thanks for the advice, I will use this on my next one for sure now. G
