  4. Hello Everybody! Here are the builds that I was able to complete in 2023. It was a challenging year on a number of different levels so I'm glad that I was able to get as much done as I did. First for the year is Bandai CielNova in Black. I picked this ki intent on challenging myself with some building diversity. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy building cars, but I also enjoy Science Fiction and Fantasy. Most of all, I enjoy building. And although I may branch out from time to time and build something else, I will continue building Model Cars, Mostly. I started this one January 11, 2023 and completed it February 1st in 12.5 hours. I also made a custom decal to place on it. It's a little design I painted on one of my old cars many years ago. It's a sort of Mech Warrior clan badge. Next is the Fugimi Lamborghini Countache 5000 qv kit by Fujimi. I've always wanted to build one of these. Well, it's more accurate to say that I've always wanted to own one of these cars but since that that is unlikely to happen, I'll have to settle for building and owning a model of one. I started 09/07/2022, Finished 05/19/2023 with 72.5 hours. This was a rather fiddly kit. One of the biggest challenges I had was the operable doors. I did get them to work but I just couldn't them to close quite right. The tail lights started as clear castings. I masked and painted the various colors for the multiple lenses myself. The third one for the year is 1981 1:32 scale AMT "Fast 111's" Corvette restoration. It had been a while since I did a model car restoration and I had this one in my stash so I decided to give it a go. Renovation commenced on February 12th 2023, and wrapped up April 19, 2023 with 34.5 hours worked. Before: After: I even made a little desk=top display case for it from a candy box. My fourth build for 2023 is the 1970 Plymouth Superbird, the second in a planned series of three. My goal is to build three of the iconic Chrysler muscle cars, a Dodge Charger, a Plymouth Roadrunner and a Plymouth Barracuda. Each in one of the High Impact Paint (HIP) colors that were offered by Chrysler between 1969 and 1972. So far I've built a 1970 Charger in Green Go / Sassy Grass green and this Plymouth Roadrunner in Go Mango / Vitamin C. Finally, I have my eye on Revell's 1970 Barracuda which I plan to paint in Panther Pink. I started the Roadrunner on April 19 and Completed it on November 20 of this year with 45.5 hours invested. Finally is the 1962 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II. I started April 26 and completed it December 9 with 46 hours worked. Though a very simple kit by all accounts, it was one of the more challenging kits I've built. The base kit is more than sixty years old and the molds are more than showing their age. This one required quite a bit of work to smooth out the messes caused by the misaligned molds. I'm glad I stuck with it. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to share any thoughts. Wishing you all a happy and prosperous 2024. David G.
  5. Hello Everybody! This is AMT's Surf Shark Ambulance which is obviously based on their Ecto-1A kit. A kit which, due to licensing, will likely never again see the light of day. At least not in that particular configuration. Most unfortunate. This is a pretty basic kit consisting of a body, chassis plate and tub interior. Also included are two chrome sprues which give us the outer wheels, bumpers, emergency lights, trim pieces and antenna. Of course there are parts for building the two surf boards and the racks for mounting them to the roof. Wheel backs, interior parts, steel wire axles, and the tail fins are also included. The clear sprue has the window glass insert and some emergency beacons left over from the Ecto-1A edition. I don't see any way provided in this kit for them to be used in this build but extra bits are always welcome. My plan is to go for a little more traditional style ambulance while at the same time trying to keep with the simplicity of the kit. Basic parts call for basic beginnings. I'll be using a red and white paint scheme, I just haven't yet worked out the configuration. In an attempt to obscure the Ecto-1A vestiges I knocked together a little supply box to go where the CRT would mount and a bin lid to cover the accompanying keyboard. I don't know what, if anything I will do with those coil things to the left but they certainly don't seem period-correct. Quick and easy! Some basic detail painting for the chassis plate. I still haven't settled on a firm scheme for the red and white paint but I have decided on the emergency lighting. I don't want to use the lights provided in the kit and instead want to use a red gumball light on the front roof and twin red lollypop lights to the rear. Holes in the roof, gonna have to drill some and fill some. That's all for this update. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to post any comments you wish to share. David G.

  18. Thanks Larry. Thank you Lee. Your support and encouragement with this build as well as your willingness to share your expertise regarding the subject were both instrumental in helping me maintain my desire to complete this one. Thank you David. You are correct about the molding around the rear window. I think it ended up chromed because the Molotow pen was in my hand and seemed to take on a life of its own. I agree. For their place in automotive history, Rolls Royce are criminally underrepresented in the model car world. Thank you again. Thank you Garry. I envy them that opportunity, it must have been a beautiful wedding. Thank you for your kind words Nigel. It certainly was a challenge. Thanks Jim, I appreciate that. Thank you very much Phil. Thank you Bruce. Thanks Glen, I'm glad you like it. David G.
