Peterbilt 359 from AMT kit
Old Buckaroo replied to Roadrunner's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The trailer looks to be coming along smoothly in pictures. I haven't even opened the one I have to see what the decals everyone is bragging about. -
Mark - They were AMT kit supplied, I sawed them off a pogo- stick. Dennis - Thank you ! I use an enamel base as I am not a "acrylic type guy" , adjust my compressor down to about 10psi and use very ,very light mist coats to where you can barely tell there it it there (more of a damp look) and lots of them. Alclad is one of those things the more I use it the better it gets. I am still learning its quirks. Last pic for this thread - Thank you to all who followed and commented !

First let me tell you how envious I am of you for having such great group of friends. Man, I wish there was some like minded people like that close to me. The truck looks fabulous , I think it looks better then the real ones that use to rumble by back in Washington state. You really did a Top Notch job on it !

Rich - in my previous experiences I have found that the less touchy the better it is. I started using Alclad on Aircraft builds and found it is best for the last step. Didn't want you guys to think I am slacking off today - I did not care for any of the pogo-sticks in any of the kits I had on hand. So I made my own out of brass and copper. After paint and accessories. And this is how the Reo looked before I got sidetracked with the pogo-stick Thanks for looking and commenting

What is this part?
Old Buckaroo replied to truckabilly's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Pictures of the real deal are most likely hard to find. Somewhere I have a tech manual that has them drawn out - but I have not seen that box since the move. I will try to find them though in the near future . -

I believe that is a crude rendition of the self levelers for the air bags. -
For the past two days I have been doing the final detail and assembly work. These behind the sleeper stacks have been a lot of work. That is wax paper wrapped around the stacks so the tape does not remove the Alclad. Someday I think I will just build a kit out of the box. Notice my fancy wheel chock ! I am not taking any chances of this one rolling away. Thanks for looking in

That is one fine looking work truck. Bonus points added for starting with an incomplete kit ! I really like the detail for the mirrors. Anything with a Detroit is alright by me -

Thanks guys for the comments on the scheme, I copied it from a B&W pic from a book I have. I really liked the way the cowl was also painted. Jarda - Thanks a million for posting those pics, they will be real valuable on my next one ! Do you have any pics of the front frame and the front spring hangers you could post ? -

The cab and hood now have color , got just a touch of white spray creep on the red. Hopefully when I lightly wetsand to blend the colors together I can eradicate it. If not I will just touch it up. Thanks for looking -

How many do you have going?
Old Buckaroo replied to Jonj238's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Always a minimum of two - so I can work on something while paint drys. Currently I have 4 1/2 going. Two are waiting for shiny parts to be Alclad'ed (airbrush is being repaired) and they will be finished. My half project is a shortened hood to have for a future project. -

Andre - panel line washes can be very challenging. I can pass on a few tips to make life easier. Starting with your paint an acrylic is a must. I add one drop of paint to a plastic spoon(cheap pallet) and two - three drops of 90% or better Isopropyl Alcohol for a thinned out solution. My preferred brush is a Tamiya 87049 . Just load the tip of the brush (no big drop) and let the solution flow into the seam. If you get a little on the outside no sweat especially if you have an enamel base. Ladies Makeup q-tips (pointed end) slightly damp are perfect for clean up . Using a thinned out solution may take more then one application but errors are easily cleaned up. This is coming from a guy who does not accent the panel lines on his trucks - but I use to on aircraft builds. The BMF work looks outstanding ! -

Sam - I was just over at Tim's Trucks and over in the "Workbench - Random things being worked on " he shows the steering box inside the frame and how he did it.
