Nothing beats taking advantage of a heat wave other then a pic of a nice truck. -
some old models from the 70's
Old Buckaroo replied to gatorincebu's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
It is always a treat to see pics like this. I am also glad you still have them and will be reconditioning them ! Be sure to take a pic of them before the work over. -
This is a project that transpired while digging through some parts boxes for another build currently going on. I see this truck belonging to a construction company that specializes in the moving of mountains. It may haul a crusher , lowboy or a box van full of support parts. At one time the fenders were rebuilt by the company's fabricators/ welders. Tread plate was on hand , paying the price for new ones made no sense. Is that enough disclaimers ? Progress so far I scratch built the fenders. Headache rack was inspired by Terry's Peterbilt Gravel hauler. I needed a window screen also. Rack mounts are provided by Lego until I make the cab mounts. I want the height will be correct. I will need to source some slam locks for the doors. Thanks for looking in

Bj and the bear K100 questions

I would lean towards an Eaton , but it could of also been a Fuller. It is not an Allison though that comes wit the kit. -

Round nose trailer
Old Buckaroo replied to Superpeterbilt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is cool, just right for that 1940- 50's truck. I remember seeing a cattle pot / livestock hauler when I was a teen with a round nose. Seems like it had wooden slats on the sides also. -

Peterbilt 351 project
Old Buckaroo replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks guys for looking in and commenting. Dave - The wheels are from KJ - http://kdhumphr.wix.com/double-take-replicas#!2-hole-245-rims/c159y I am not using them on this truck, they were just handy at the time. Yes those are legos 3 high with blue painters tape on top. I have two sets , one is completely covered with tape as I use it for painting frames. -
Peterbilt 359 from AMT kit

Household bleach works real well stripping chrome off from older kits. Have you decided on what color your painting your Detroit ? -
Peterbilt 351 project
Old Buckaroo replied to Old Buckaroo's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Here is a tip that might help some of you out someday. I broke the wing window and was able to find the 6mm chunk. I cut a piece of .030" styrene larger then the window. Wrapped it with household wax paper and taped it inside the cab. That gave me table to set the broken off piece on while I glued it back in place. (liquid cement) I have a modified clothespin I clamped over it so it would not take flight of bow out. I will leave the waxed styrene in place until I paint the interior and then back in it will go till final paint and window installation. That way I dont break it again. -

I needed something to occupy my time while waiting for paint to dry on my Reo and IH Transtar. This is a vintage Cali Hauler kit I received in partially built condition. The cab had been stripped and the engine assembled. First thing I did was change out the rear suspension. (personal preference) Disassembled the engine and stripped of the chrome and chiseled off most of the noticeable glue blops. I also drilled / cut the spindles for poseable steering. The hood conversion is from Dave at AITM - fantastic casting. I hope you follow along with this new project. -

I built one a while back that still needs decals to be put on . (not my favorite pastime) I will pull it out and measure it tomorrow for you. Silver would be correct for the Detroit. The original truck had 400 Big Cam in it -

The Reo decals were the oddball, I presume it is a typo as no one wants to order $80.00 worth. But I have had no luck with the sites contact info. I could spend that ammount there easily but not on just Reo stripes -

Have you ordered anything from there ? I have inquired several times about decals and never heard anything back . I was going to order some decals for my Reo but you have to buy eight sets - wasnt sure if it was a typo error or the real deal. -

Well when the trading mood strikes either one of you - give me a holler. -
Just a quick mockup - so if something looks crooked it most likely is Mounted the fuel tanks with "white glue" so I could get the steps placed evenly. Next stop is the Alclad shop for them. I am going to mount the hood first then the bumper and cab will be mounted/ fitted around it. Thanks for looking and keep on trucking

italeri and revell frames
Old Buckaroo replied to guitarsam326's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would go with one of AITM resin frames myself. I have three Revell / Italeri trucks and all have broken frames in the center as they seem really thin and weak . http://www.aitruckmodels.com/pages/kt9frame.html or if your going really long http://www.aitruckmodels.com/pages/hd9cruiselinerframe.html Or build your own. -
