Oooooh..........I like that! A seldom seen roofline for that year Cadillac! Gonna be nice!
-
Aaahh! That looks so much better Snake! The original look of that roofline to me reminded me of Monogram's '59 Impala windshield header (too flat). By adding some chrome detail to those A pillars, it blunts the appearance of that by taking attention away from it. There are some other troubles I see with the body shape, but all in all it looks good! One thing I would add in the interim if it were mine.....I'd add some chrome trim at the base of the C pillars to meet with the lower rear window trim.

Lookin' nice and clean Jonathan! You just can't beat a Tamiya kit for ease of assembly (most) and no nonsense approach to accuracy.

2017 Toyota Camry, Whats In The Box
MrObsessive replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Hmmm.......for whatever reason the pics are blocked on my end as I'm at work and on their Wifi. I had to go on my phone to see the pics and yes..........that is a very nice resin kit! Isn't' that an '18 model though? I've seen a number of them on the road and have to look twice and realize that's a Camry! Toyota really stepped up their game with the design of that car this time around! Gotta give them credit for even doing this car as to my eyes it's mighty sharp! Hopefully that's a trend (signal) for others to do the same. Bring on more modern stuff that's woefully lacking in the hobby. -
Assembly Question Vintage 1950s Model

Oh yeah. I've said for the longest time the plastic we're getting today is NOT the same we used to get even as recently as 15 years ago. It's been mainly the reason I've become paranoid about painting with automotive paints and I'll barrier coat everything. It'll save many a headache (and heartache) from having to see your much prized creation get ruined in an instant from paint that's too hot for today's plastics. On that same note though......have the paints changed recently as far as their chemical makeup? When I was painting my MPC '74 Corvette Coupe, I used paint that I had mixed by a local retailer. Just to see how it would react to the plastic, I airbrushed a bit of it on a junk Monogram '59 Chevy body. What's interesting is the paint with NO primer or barrier coat whatsoever on the Chevy body DID NOT craze the plastic! I was pleasantly surprised as it made me wonder if the retailers are producing paint recently with 'kinder' chemicals. Just thinking out loud as this thread reminded me of that. -
DSPIAE Circular Cutter

Yeah, I got one of those and I just CAN'T seem to get that thing to work right! On my mind is special size redlines for a certain upcoming project. I'm definitely checking that out! -
Hmmm........John, I've had this kit for years and until you pointed that out, I never noticed it! Probably because I've yet to dive into it but yes.....that definitely needs some 'curve'! BTW, the red car is a Grand Prix I took a number of pics of at a local car show a couple years ago. BEAUTIFUL car and one I'd like Round 2 to do with their Catalina. Wishful thinking though on my part.

About three years ago (time flies!), I did a mini tutorial on how to get the appearance of those wheels more correct than the directions Moebius gives you. Some may be new here and didn't see it, but IMO it goes a long way to getting that wheel offset more like the 1:1 and not have the 'tunneled' look by going by the book. If you click on the pic, it'll take you to my Fotki page and from pics #1-11, I show how I did it.

Kurt, over the summer I splurged and bought from Ed Cervo (Island Collectibles) MFH's '63 Ferrari 330 LMB kit. One of my favorite '60's Ferrari road racers right up there with the 250 GTO. This is another one of those examples that if you see something you like and you have the means------------GRAB IT! One never knows when the boom will get lowered and it ceases to be available. You can best believe also if these turn up on eBay, prices can get absolutely INSANE! That Lusso was another one I wanted but the 330 LMB won out. I've since got a Lusso trans kit from AirTrax so that's part of my Ferrari collection now. -

Yeah, I did some further digging on that kit and they say that this will be their last licensed Ferrari kit they'll do. So......I gotta break the piggy bank and see about getting this fine one! BTW, in the description it says the kit has opening doors with crank windows. Hmmm.........for that alone I GOT to see what mechanism they'll use for that! -

LOL!! Well, the site says that it's up for pre-order. I'm gonna sit back and wait and keep checking when it's actually for sale. I get kinda nervous about preordering something of that magnitude and then the rug gets pulled out from under you. There's that Ferrari kit discontinuation that's looming so we'll see. -
Yup. The only GM model 'allowed' to have triple carbs after 1966 was the Corvette. Seems as though the insurance companies were starting to breath down the carmakers neck. GM passed an edict that starting with the '67 model year, their cars were not to produce more than 10 hp per pound or something like that. If a car weighed 3000 lbs, it was not to have more than 300 hp if that's the reasoning. Some may have gotten around that (think Baldwin-Motion for instance). EDIT: There was also an edict about cars not having more than 400 CI engines. That must have been relaxed later as there were cars that had ore than that. That might have been part of that 'policy' about the HP limit. Triple carbs added to the hp rating, so it got the axe.

Bill this may sound trivial, but one thing I notice among the missing is an uptop. I have the Fujimi one (Enthusiasts Series) and it gives you that. Now granted, this is all test shot items I'm sure so there may be one in the final result. I'd sure hope so, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me in the least. I'm gonna think reaaaall good about this one! As if I don't have enough to build! On a bit sadder note, on MFH's home page they state that after this month, they're losing their contract with Ferrari. I take that as meaning there won't be anymore new Ferrari kits from them, but I hope this doesn't put the kibosh on what's existing. Looks like this might be the last hurrah from them in regards to Ferrari, and they wanted that marque to go out with a bang! -
As you all know, I'm a VERY big fan of those prancing horses from Italy! Especially if their red! Every once in a long while, I'll see something that stops me dead in my tracks in the model world. For whatever reason, I decided to pay Model Factory Hiro's website a visit while I was at work overnight. What IMMEDIATELY got my attention front and center is this! Now, some may have very good relationships with their spouses, but all I can say is if I were married, I don't think my wife would be too understanding about me spending upwards of $800 for a model kit! But I'm not married sooooooo.................
-
You ain't kiddin'! While the regular kit buying has slowed down on my end, every once in a long while I see something that stops me dead in my tracks! Like this baby here! I'm about to make a post on this very car in the Big Boyz section. If I was married I don't think my wife would appreciate me spending upwards of $800 for a model car kit. But I ain't married sooooo...............

Exactly Mike! While we can quibble about the cost of kits these days, if we really want to make it something 'special' we'll spend the bucks to get what it takes to make it so. Nowadays, I'm not buying as many kits per se, but I am getting those detail parts and goodies that can give it that 'gotcha' factor. And yes, Chief Joseph is leading the way in some very nice stuff made via 3D printing. Just his carbs alone can turn a mediocre 'blah' engine into something worth admiring!

I'm not sure what you mean that it was flat. If it's super tiny, are you sure you didn't accidentally break it when in use? That can happen with those tiny bits which is why it might be good to have some extras on hand. You may want to check here for drill bits.........lots to choose from and you may want to pick up a 'wire gauge' to get a better idea of which size to use before drilling. Hope this helps!

Mike, the Tri-Power setup I used on the '58 Chevy was out of the '59 which is quite nice with some detailing added. The difference in the '59 is that there are internal filters (something I forgot about), but it looks to be similar to what GM offered throughout those years.

Ahhhh, that looks so much better Steve! I hate molded in seats in interiors and it's one of the reasons I cut out the door panels on that '74 'Vette resto. Sooooo much easier to work on and paint!

David, to expand a little on what you said......I'm of the mind one of the BIG things the American car manufacturers are overlooking is what's going to be the trend say 10 years down the road. For example: Let's take a look at the kids of today------say in the 13-17 year old range. I can best believe by the late '20's they are NOT going to want to buy what they're parents are buying. It's one of the reasons a car like the Mustang back in the mid '60's was such a hot seller. There was nothing like it before (maybe something similar, but not as sporty), and Ford couldn't make enough of 'em. Sure tastes change and trends come and go, but I really believe like you said that they're shooting themselves in the foot BIG TIME. It doesn't even have to be a gas crisis that can do them in. It's the fact that at some point, the public will want something different and not the 'me too' type cars that everyone's latching onto now. Frankly, I sure HOPE the pendulum swings back in the direction of an actual car. Trucks have their place, but when the average price of those can top $50K, it gets IMO looking kinda silly to be paying that kind of money for a truck. Bill, you posted just my very thoughts just as I was typing this. The under 20 somethings now are a very different generation coming up for whatever reason. Not to get political, but perhaps they're tired of all the rampant PCism that's been forced upon them throughout their entire school life, and they're getting fed up? Now it's coming down to what choices they're going to have in what to drive............or not? Hmmmm, that sounds like a MAJOR wind of change come this next decade! -

If I'm in need of a four door car in the future, I'll definitely be giving that Stinger a good work over. It's a toss up between that and a Charger, but the Charger despite its nice looks is starting to age albeit gracefully. I just hope Chrysler doesn't fall into the "SUV and Truck" only mentality. IMO, that WOULD be a crying shame! -
Wasn't the old IMC/Union Beetle in 1/25? I remember building one many years ago and I remember it being SUPER fiddly!

True, but when that's all there is.............we're model builders and one can take the time to make the corrections if they'd like. Either that, or try correcting the Johan one. At least this one gives you the distributor in the right place.
