News of Revell molding preparing in US
MrObsessive replied to Jon Cole's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'd sure like to see TD's Lil Van remade back into the Sand Crab! I've got both, but it'd be nice to see these once again in fresh plastic and new boxes! -
I tried to search for this one thinking it was some sort of European version Geo Metro convertible. Nope! I've never heard of this car until today, and the fact that Bill was the only one that got it speaks to its obscurity!

Beautiful 'Vette Randy! I'm restoring a '74 right now and yes-----they don't like to go together without some fuss. Particularly in the nose area is where I had to do a lot of surgery to get it to look right.

AMT/Round-2 reissue of '67 Shelby GT-350
MrObsessive replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
If you did some tweaking, you could use the chassis under the '68-'70 AMC Javelin/AMX's as they are VERY similar if not exact as far as the floor pan. Even the front suspension is awfully close as the AMC's were using the trunion setup (through '69) and the Mustang of that era looked very close to that although Ford was using ball joints. -
AMT/Round-2 reissue of '67 Shelby GT-350

While the '67 Mustang GT is not a bad kit, I ran across many inaccuracies when I was building mine a few years ago. I'm not sure whose car they used, but there were a number of details that were among the missing as far as a GT goes. I have a build sequence here for the one I did. -
I do have this kit, but would love to have another one with all the goodies that Round 2 has been putting into their kits lately. Nice decals with perhaps the trailer option perhaps?? I see these popping up on the 'Bay from time to time, and even that Model King re-issues can be asking for crazy money. I suspect we'll see this one again before too long..........Round 2 has been surprising us with kits we haven't seen for a long time, and I got a feeling this one will pop back up on the shelves before too long. Are you seeing this Round 2??

This I'd like to see make a comeback............eBay prices are getting ridiculous!

AMT/Round-2 reissue of '67 Shelby GT-350
MrObsessive replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Now if we could just get Model Car Garage to release their PE set! This is a nice kit as I've used it among other things as a donor. One thing that's bugged me about the body shell is the front end. '67 Shelby's had a somewhat long nose due to the fiberglass extensions for the headlight doors and grille, as well as a bit longer hood. The kit's front end always seemed 'blunt' to me........almost as if it could stand to be extended another scale inch or so. A cost cutting thing perhaps as it needed to share as much as possible with the then current '67 Mustang? I dunno, but it never looked right to me and if I ever get around to building one, some plastic surgery on the nose is in order. -
Wow time flies! I think it's now about 25 years for me since I first went to the MAMA meeting! Congratulations MAMA!!

Inserting a Youtube video into a post?
MrObsessive replied to peteski's topic in How To Use This Board
Peter it may be the browser you're using. I'm at work using IE, but it's worked for me at home using Firefox. If you have IE, check it out on that. I simply copied and pasted the URL in the text box, and the video did show up before I hit the Submit Reply button. -

If you put the URL in the text box, and then hit submit, the video should show up on the page once it posts. At least that's how it's worked for me in the past. It's yet another reason why there should be a preview page here on the board. We could test stuff like that out, and not have a hit or miss. -
Trumpeter Bonneville
MrObsessive replied to RichCostello's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Great minds think alike Ron..........that was one of those MUST HAVE items from Don and Carol I got before they shut things down. When I'll get to it who knows, but that is a future project I have in mind. -
Opinion on Revell ProModeler 69 Dodge Daytona kit
MrObsessive replied to shoopdog's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I want to add that I wish Revell would include the stock parts to make an actual Hemi car so we don't have to rob other kits for parts and such. The air cleaner comes to mind as well as the intake manifold for the dual carbs etc. Maybe that's in the cards for the reissue------I hope. -
Opinion on Revell ProModeler 69 Dodge Daytona kit
MrObsessive replied to shoopdog's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That's about right as I know it came after the flub-up with the '69 Charger's roof proportions. I built mine in 2000, and it's hard to believe that's nearly 20 years ago now! -
Trumpeter Bonneville
MrObsessive replied to RichCostello's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ok, let's see if the third time's the charm. My initial comments about the kit was due to talking to diehard Pontiac guys, and how they were quite disappointed in how Trumpeter did the interior on the convertible. Some of them were convinced they used a car that did not have the factory interior, but used one that may have been a 'custom' or aftermarket. They got it right on the hardtop (I have that kit), but the hardtop has its own issues as far as the roofline shape. Fixable, but not without some somewhat extensive surgery. Now, because a museum or prestigious car dealer has a 'restored' car for sale, that doesn't always translate into that car being correct per the factory. Estate sales come to mind where they have to rely on the survivors knowledge of the car, and without the proper paperwork and such, who knows?? I still say that I've never seen any '60 Bonneville with that plain of an interior, and even though Morrokide did come in solid colors, that still doesn't explain away the incorrect door/seat patterns of the cars pictured. One could build that kit and be correct, but according to A particular car, and not to what Pontiac offered in 1960. -

1968 Shelby Green Hornet-----Update! 8/4/18
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Yup Rex, that's mine. Unfortunately, it had an accident with a falling can of spray paint which was sitting on a shelf above it. The can fell on the body breaking the trunk lid off its hinges, and totally breaking the roof off its fenders. Fixable, but I'm not going to worry about it now since I'm doing another one. Speaking of which, I've shelved that one for awhile as I've gotten tired of working on it. Right now to keep from getting too burned out, I'm doing a 'Vette resto. When I get a chance-----more than likely when it's done, I'll post pics. -
Autoquiz 391 - Finished
MrObsessive replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I picked this one out because I knew a girl in the early '80's that had one. Her Dad bought it for her as a cheap first car, and she had to learn to drive stick in it. Never mind that one day the car had stalled, and of course she was on a hill, and one of us had to go get the car for her as she wasn't familiar yet with keeping it from rolling backwards! Neat little cars, and it's interesting that it's based on the Sprite..........I had one of those (actually an MG Midget----a '71) and it IS a tiny car. I don't think I've seen an Innocenti since the '80's here in the States! -
Ludwig, as usual so nice and squeaky clean! The way it sits is just right...........not too high, and not overly low. I wish I were on my phone I'd give you two thumbs up!

Trumpeter Bonneville
MrObsessive replied to RichCostello's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Every 1960 Pontiac Bonneville I've ever seen (in person and on the 'net) had some kind of 'tri-tone' color and the pattern/stitching in the door panels and such reflected that. That was kind of a trademark for Pontiac during that era. I'm not sure what that's supposed to be Joe, but that's not like any '60 Poncho I've ever seen. In fact, it looks a lot like that Trumpeter kit's interior, and for all we know it could have been the very car they used. If you take a look here, you'll see what looks to me a totally restored '60 Poncho Bonneville, with that tri colored interior. Also doing a quick and dirty search here, yielded a ton of pics with practically all of them having the same patterned interiors. As I mentioned I don't have the kit, and the interior isn't why I never bothered to pick it up. It lacks an uptop which to me with any convertible kit is always a big turnoff. One could use I guess the Revell '59 Impala's top with some tweaking, but it drives me crazy when the kit makers will go through the trouble of tooling up a convertible kit, but for whatever reason leave out the uptop. -
That's a real beauty Doug! Perfect color choice as that suits the car! Before you get started, you might want to take a look here...........
