Sorry to hear of your loss Kerry, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

After seein' the movie Grand Prix back-in-the-day, I took a trip to Watkins Glen, New York for the Grand Prix of the United States in 1967 and it was really cool to see those Formulas and meet and talk to Dan Gurney as well. Also got taken to the JP for speedin' on the way there. How could that be? LOL!

Difference between '66 and '67 Chargers?
High octane replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The '66 Charger didn't have the fender mounted turn signals like the '67 did, and there may be some interior changes as well. I'm sure if you "Google" the two Chargers you would come up with all the necessary info. -
I've recently noticed at Wallymart and Walgreens (local drugstore chain) that they've "downsized their magazine racks considerably. I guess it's the "sign of the times."

I gave up bicycle riding when I got my first car. So far it's worked out fine.

Nice bike Harry, as I remember walkin' by the Schwinn factory many times back-in-the-day.

The magazine is not based in Denver, but only published and mailed from there. -
The Corvair Topic
High octane replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Scott, you said there were people killed in Corvairs? There were people killed in every make of automobiles that ever hit the streets. -
That Chevy looks REAL, and I really like those Tri-Five Chevys.

Very nice build on that JoHan kit Peter as I just love dem Mopars! I may have one of those kits in my "stash" somewhere.

I don't have phone problems as I usually leave it in the car, or at home when I'm on vacation. I bought it for emergencies like if my vehicle was broken down and on the side of the road. A lot of people can't live without their phone as it's always in their hand or they even take it to bed with them. I feel sorry for those people as they need to "get a life."

While we had lotsa rain and lightning last night, today Sunday was great as I attended a model car contest & swap meet at Lake Delavan, Wi. today. There was also a 1:1 car show with about 1000 cars, and a friend of mine picked me up in his boat and gave me a tour of the lake. Great day!

I heard that ALL of the vendor tables have been sold for this event so it should be worth attending if you're looking for kits, promos, parts, paints, tools, supplies, etc. Also bring some of your finished model cars as there is a really nice model car contest as well. See you tomorrow.

I hafta agree with what Harry said 'bout the number of model car builders today compared to the number of model car builders in the 60's. That was the "golden age" of model car building. Sure today we have tons of kits, tons of resin, tons of photo etched parts , decals, glues, tools, air-brushes, compressors, etc., but it doesn't have the "magic" that was there in the 60's. Back in the 60's I couldn't wait for the new kits to come out, and today I could care less if anymore kits ever came out as I've got enough to build. I'll bet that I have 'bout 60% of my kits still factory sealed. Sure today we have websites like this one, facebook, International camaraderie, building tips, tutorials, etc. but NO magic. While I'm not a great builder, I do build in MY "comfort zone" and am happy with the results, but not any happier than when I finished a model in the 60's and entered it in the contest at the local hobby shops. Today a LOT of local hobby shops are looooong gone and never to return. Why, like Harry said about the number of model car builders today and internet and mail order buying. There's a lot of "overhead" in owning a local hobby shop today and it is a rough business as far as making ends meet.

I believe every word Harry as it's amazing the way a lot of people drive on the streets, the roads, the highways, tollways, and yes even the parking lots. Just amazing, and these are the same people who have children and vote as well. No wonder we're in deep trouble.

I've been to the Big Four Hobbies a few times whenever I was in the area, which wasn't too often as it's 'bout a 3 1/2 hour ride for me. A great hobby shop and I'm sure they'll be missed by many. When I did go there, I did wish that the Big Four was a lot closer to where I live, but that's the way it is.

I don't know about a longer legacy for the Corvair, as Chevy already had the Nova and Chevelle, and the Camaro was fairly new as well. Smaller cars didn't sell back then like they do today. Unsafe at any speed? I had my Corvair on the Indiana Toll Road one night back in 1967 doing 110 mph in the pouring rain without a quiver, and it was a blast!

Hmmmmmm, while I'm trying to "back off" on my model kit buyin', I see that I'm gonna hafta get one of those.

Mark, I still do work during my retirement around the house and I thank God that I'm still able to do so. As far as staying busy, people have had years before their retirement to figure that out, unless all they did was go to work and watch TV. If people had outside interest while they were working like hobbies and or sports, they would have even more time to enjoy these things when they retire. Retired people with little or no interest in sports/hobbies would sometimes find the need to find a part time job to keep themselves busy. I've been very lucky during my retirement, and sometimes too busy to the point where I've joked about getting a part-time job just so I could get some rest.

That looks sweet Harry, and I can make it into a convertible for you with a sawzall if you'd like?
-
Like I've said before that today people have the "hurray for me and FY "attitude and I notice it most often when they drive. Nobody cares 'bout anyone else anymore, not like in the 50's & 60's. This country has changed a lot, and not necessarily for the better.
-
Mark, you mentioned incorporating retirees into the workforce? If a person retires, why would he possibly want to be incorporated into the workforce? I always thought that after many years of hard work, that retirement was a goal for one to achieve so they don't have to work anymore, no?

One new Mustang and one vintage Mustang in the garage, that's NO fun Harry. You've got to take them out of the garage. Many people did just that tonight a "cruise night" and it was packed to say the least. There was at least 1000 people on the streets checkin' out all the cool rides on this beautiful night.
