Motor trend super models
bobthehobbyguy replied to R. Thorne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree that the exposure is good. I find it amusing that there is wringing of hands and grinding of teeth that the hobby is going away. Now we have a show that might generate some interest in the hobby and some complain that he's not doing the right way(their way). M8dels are meant to be built in a way that pleases us. An unbuilt model is not serving that purpose. -
Nicel done. Great color choice and execution of concept.

What are some opinions on this?
bobthehobbyguy replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Its an eighth scale diecast that you assemble yourself. Its expensive. It looks like a diecast when assembled and I'm not sure that you can overcome that appearance. You can get some decent 18th scale diecast for a lot cheaper. For the price it coasts it shouldn't look like a model with good photography it sho6nd look lije real deal. Plus the subscription idea makes me nervous. If they go belly up you'll never be able to finish it, -
*1941 Willys Gasser "Big John Mazmanian"*
bobthehobbyguy replied to Zippi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Ouch. It was coming along so nicely. Relax. Take a deep breath and regroup. And as said if you hit a snag step back and come back to it. I believe the issue was with the interior. The instructions show the interior going into the body first. That how I did the one I built a while back. Second always test fit the parts. The way the interior goes together its a tight fit and any misalignment could impair the interior fit. Experience has taught me to do multiple test fits during the assembly process. Regardless of doing a box stock build or a kit bash. Unfortunately I think that this has happened to all of us. The trick is learning from the experience and avoid making that mistake again. -

Chip Foose kits.....
bobthehobbyguy replied to BlackSheep214's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
First off its subjective and a matter of personal opinion. Second its name recognition that creates the licensing. More kids and adults are going to know who Chip Foose thats why we've seen licensing with Barris, Boyd Coddington, and Stacey David. Who's better really doesn't decide the licensing choices. . -
Thanks for the comments guys.

John Buttera white 29 Model A Hiboy
bobthehobbyguy replied to alan barton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Buttera's design philosophy was a result of building race cars. By one part serving multiple functions it keeps weight down and allows for more weight to be put in places that benefit performance. -

First I think that HL dropped the 40% coupon becuase it wasn't generating the revenue they expected. The idea is to make a little money on one item and hope you buy more than that. With the 40% off kits they are hoping you will buy paint and supplies. I think the selection is dependent on how they buy. If they buy once a year then the selection won't change much during the year. Also with the disruption in shipping due to covid may be another factor. -
I am pleased today I got up this morning. Today is my 7 year anniversary of my heart attack. About this time I started experiencing serve breathing problems. I ended up in the hospital. I will never forget when the ER doctor came out and told my sister and I that they hadn't expected me to make it. I've always appreciated life but i now appreciate it even more. In the same time my sister and husband had a friend die from a heart attack and another suffer from a debilitating stroke. Truly makes one pause and reflect and count ones blessings. A good day to work on some modeling projects and enjoy life.

Stretched SSR
bobthehobbyguy replied to Modlbldr's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Coming along nicely. A couple of suggestions one drill a hole at each end of the crack to keep it fron traveling then use sprue to fill holes. Second Snake45 uses what he calls faux fiberglasserglass which is using a piece of newspaper soaked with ca glue to reinforce the joint. Glad to see you working to finish up such a cool project. -
Loving this great concept. Loving all the fab work. The nice little details like the rib around the blower hole. Plus plenty of step by step photos,

Dave we are now getting video ads. Fortunately they are muted but still very distracting and annoying.
