Winchester Gray Metallic paint
1972coronet replied to Modlbldr's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
From Hamtramck Historical , the paint chip pages for 1971 ( first link ) and 1969 ( second link ) . The aforementioned 1969 'A4' is preceded by an 'E' ( 'EA4' ) which is a 1969 colour ( the 'E' = '1969' ) . It was reformulated for 1971 , and issued 'GA4' ( 'G' = 1971 ) . Round 2 October 2021 Product Spotlight

That one from the early 80's was representative of the "Bumpside" truck whose origins date to the ole AMT annuals of the F-Series . I used to buy the 'Bigfoot' kits for practically nothing back in 1985-1987 . Since the stock suspension was included , that's how I built my copies . -
Glad that it worked out the way that it did -- looks perfect ! I'd only mentioned the headers as they were a common 'Day 2' addition , and because of the 'Day 2' 8-track player . Great work as usual !

As far as you can determine - having the kit at your disposal vs. us viewing photos - would the Charger's Hemi's headers fit , or are they going to interfere with the kick-down linkage and-or dipstick-filler tube ?
-
Outstanding 'RS23J7' ! It appears ready to go to battle on the Connecting Highway !
-
One last chance to "raise the roof" with this kit .

Artistic licence in advertising and marketing . Look at how many vehicles are dubbed "sedan" when they're 2 door , fixed B-pillar models . Same with calling a 4 door hardtop a "sedan" (e.g. , Chevrolet's Sports Sedan full size models ) .

1/25 AMT 1965 Pontiac Bonneville Sport Coupe

I remember those disasterous tyres from me youth . IIRC , there was a parody 'commercial' on Saturday Night Live in c.1978 .- 90 replies

A vehicle of such generous proportions isn't the best choice for a Gasser . I can see a 60's - 70's style Lowrider being made with it : Bellflower Pipes , Lace paint , organ pipe speakers , 4-track player , etc.- 90 replies

I built one of those Prestige Series iterations back in summer 1987 , and didn't recognise any warping ( until the 1987 Whittier Earthquake had its way with the completed kit... ) .- 90 replies

Only with their 1/25 scale line . The 1/16 scale kits -- the 1950's cars , such as the T-Bird -- still have those Turd Ferguson's for the optional , custom ( Cragar S/ST and S/S ) wheel options .- 90 replies

Those hunks of cow dung are in the reissued 1/16 scale T-Bird , 55 Chevy Convertible , etc. Monogram kits had those vile junks in their 70's kits , too . While the tread wasn't nearly as bad as the AMT offerings , it's still quite bad .- 90 replies

The pad printed tyres are . perhaps , the finest innovation ( invention ? ) to come along in quite some time . I certainly don't miss trying to paint the white wall or pinstripe on the tyres ! My main complaint about the presence of the Goodrich tyres is that there are other tyres in Round2's roster that would be literally and figuratively more "fitting" . That 80's garbage belongs in kits of that era , IMO , and not in a 60's custom .- 90 replies

I know for certain that the 1988 Mustang GT is festooned with those stupid tyres . This is the second kit that I've seen to include those barfy things ; the first one one with them as a custom option ( where'd the pad printed redlines / bluelines / goldlines etc. go ? ) .- 90 replies

While I now recognise -- via the evidence presented , photographic as it is -- the potential roof inaccuracy between the 1:1 and the kit ( I see evidence of a windscreen "brow" trim not inline with the rain gutter trim ; and , a "rounded bump" on the C-pillar , which are absent on the former ) . With that being said , I will withhold any further observations until I see the competed build . Other mitigating optics between the stock 1:1 sedan and the 1/25 scale Gasser ( Street Freak et al. ) such as a through-the-hood blower / hat vs. stock , flat bonnet ; raised nose vs. stock ride height ; and wheels & tyres can skew the overall image .

I remember being overjoyed when MPC finally released Gatorbacks with their 1988 or 1989 Corvettes and Taurus SVO . Their only weak point - and it pales in comparison to the 100% inaccurate B.F. Goodrich of years prior - is that the sidewall marques are raised instead of 'engraved' as with the 1:1 versions . But , because of the 16" or 17" diameter , they'd be literally unfit for the Supra-Celica ( or the recently reissued 1987-1988 Mustang GT for this matter ) insofar as employing the kits' wheels ( which are 15" , IIRC ) . Hasegawa would likely not only be considerably high MSRP'ed , but would also just as likely be a curbside (unacceptable at a pearl-clutching ~ $60 MSRP ! ) .

Looking great , Tim . I've been following your photos / progress with great interest . Those fenderwell-exit headers are awesome ! IIRC , SBC headers are darned close to AMC V8 exhaust port spacing -- these will find their way onto a long-pending 1975 Matador build I've had in mind for 17 years . Now , I must admit that I'm surprised by the absence of a flange on the heads-side of those headers .
-
After almost 40 year of absence ! Last issued in , what , 1984 ? 1985 ? Like a one-and-done deal after the -- whichever came lastly ? Blue or Red ?
-
That's interesting . I seem to remember the OEM tyres being Bridgestone , though the c.1987-1988 models had Good Year Gatorbacks . But , honestly , I didn't pay *that* much attention to tyres until c.1985 ; it's entirely possible that Goodrich was the OEM supplier for U.S. spec models . Regardless , I'd be willing to "accept" them for a kit of this vintage . Tim's example is the finest example I can recall seeing .
-
I've been championing this - and its Celica relative - kit for many , many years . We can hope for better tyres though -- the kits' Goodrich tyres are inaccurate , and indeed , dated . Thuthishly , I'd be happy -contented- even with the Goodrich tyres intact .

Block , heads , intake = Gold Air Cleaner = Red ( I've seen them in semi-gloss black , which is likely what a standard 330 Olds would've been equipped with ) Rocker Covers = Plated Transmission / Bellhousing = Steel or Cast Iron ( with a bit of engine colour overspray on the bellhousing , if you please ) Exhaust Manifolds = Cast Iron I could be wrong - I'm certain that someone ( or two ) will correct my information .
