Mopar rear axle spotters guide.

Thanks much , Tom ! ( that 7.25" differential is absolute junk , good only for scrap... or behind a naturally-aspirated 4 cylinder ) -
1965 Ranchero
1972coronet replied to maltsr's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Lovely UTE there ! Great craftsmanship on that much-chided kit --- great colour choices ! * does anyone make a resin copy of the engine compartment of this kit ? The AMT 1960 Ranchero could use it . * P.S. : Not adding this as means to hijack your thread . I apologise beforehand if it turns into that . -
Grumpy Jenkins' 1972 Vega P/S . If this were the only kit that Round2 releases for MMXX , then I'm okay with that ! ____________________________________________________ That MPC 1988 Mustang GT was last cosmetically-updated for the 1987 model year . Under that so-so reskin , it's the same old Mustang Fox Body kit that dates-back to c.1979 . It's not terrible ; it's just not stellar . I just hope that those totally incorrect B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A tyres are still included ( not ! ) . ____________________________________________________ I have the Ranchero kit in its last iteration . I may have to get another one now... Chevy Mark IV engine notwithstanding ( haha ) . ___________________________________________________ Grumpy Jenkins' 1972 Vega Pro Stock !!!!!

A way to get around licensing?
1972coronet replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You're on to something for sure . This is something that I've thought about for a long time regarding Revell / Monogram kits , and their shying-away from -- to the extent of revising tooling -- employing Good Year or Firestone on their kits' tyres . My thought is this : Why not purposely misspell those names ? How about -- on sidewall engravings -- something like G00D YE4R or F1REST0NE ? Doubtful that anyone would look closely enough to pick out the "0" in place of the letter "O" , or the "4" in-place of the "A" , etc. -
That interior looks great , T.J. ! The cloth-like inserts are easily recognised in the new photos . Keep up the great work !

Four door sedans - are there many?
1972coronet replied to Jiminwatford's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wonder if Chris' example is an early-production example ? I , too , seem to recall that the newly-tooled hubcaps from the 1978 Dodge D-100 were supposed to be included... -
The Most Dangerous Car You've Ever Owned

- 1969 GTS Dart with a transplanted 496" RB / Art Carr 727 . Insanely quick and an absolute handful ! And an unquenchable thirst for racing gas ( 11:1 compression ratio ) . - 1967 Dart GT with 4-wheel drum brakes . Being that I was used to operating vehicles whose brakes were solid , those crappy 4-wheel , 9" drums were like stepping-in wet cement ! -
1953 OHV Ford V8 ???

There's a Buick OHV engine with exposed-valvetrain ; it's from c.1917 or some thing... -
1953 OHV Ford V8 ???
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks much for that info . I didn't realise that Lincoln offered an OHV V8 as early as 1952 , but I'm not surprised , either . BTW , I love the looks of the Lincoln L-Head V12 ! -
I didn't realise that Ford had an OHV V8 in 1953 . I thought that 1954 was the first year for that engine ( the 'Y' Block ) ; this brochure presents evidence to the contrary : http://oldcarbrochures.org/United States/Ford Motor Company Trucks-Vans/1953-Trucks/1953-Ford-Trucks-Full-Line-Brochure/slides/1953_Ford_Trucks_Full_Line-39.html Ostensibly , Fo-Mo-Co waited until the 1954 model year to offer the OHV V8 in its F-Series . Thoughts ? Correct info ? Just curious .

Krylon Short Cuts spray paint.
1972coronet replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Many years ago , I painted a 1974 "GTX" (the MPC 1974 Road Runner annual in its c.2003 iteration) with the Short Cuts 'Ocean Blue' , as it was pretty close to TB3 Basin Street Blue ( colloq. , 'Petty Blue' ) . I recall that it was a nice aerosol paint ; sprayed nicely , laid-down smoothly , and had a very nice gloss finish (e.g. , I didn't have to clear coat it nor colour sand and / or polish it out ) . Unfortunately , I don't have any photos of the car ( it was a birthday present --- built as a 400-powered 4-speed Road Runner , with the chassis , brake booster & master cylinder , and dashboard from my parts box ). Walmart used to sell that line of paints... I miss having those cool colours as an option . -
Ten ikonický Chevrolet Super Sport 7,2 litru, který jste postavili, je krásný! Prosím, udržujte skvělé sestavení přicházející mého přítele!

The c.1979 ( ad seq. ) MPC General Lee did , indeed , have the backlite from the 500 model (and the headlamp doors / grill from the 1972 Charger) . I can't recall if the backlite / pillars were restored to the regular Chargers' flying buttress pillars / tunneled-in backlite . The kit being built here is a new-tooling from a few years ago , and it's a curbside ( e.g. , no under-bonnet details , etc. ) .

Whose version of this classic do you prefer ( more than one is perfectly acceptable ) ? Personally , I love the Flying Burrito Brothers take on this classic piece . Certainly , there's more than one version of the song by the F.B.B. ; however , I love this studio take : Then there's the Charley Pride version :

It's the Real Thing...
1972coronet replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I read an article in Mopar Action a few years ago about the original . While I'm not necessarily a fan of the theme , it truly is a cool car : nicely done , and a radical paint scheme ( I won't mention the white-face instruments though... ) . Chris hpi guy does a buildup of the kit -
I thought that Ford engines were painted grey from 1983 model year until ______________ ? In my 50 years , I can't recall seeing a Fo-Mo-Co engine painted black from the factory during this time ( 80's ) . But , in the end , it's your kit to build as you see fit . Enjoy ! ?

Four door sedans - are there many?
1972coronet replied to Jiminwatford's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The 1970 Ford Galaxie Police Car isn't terribly difficult to find ; I see them on eBay quite often . I cannot , however , attest to their availability in Merry Olde ( et al. ) . The 1977-1978 Dodge Monaco kit from MPC is one of my favourites . Until recently , all iterations of that kit had ridiculously-sized tyres and wheels ( e.g. , wheels too-deep in offset ) . Now with the CHP version of the kit , those cartoonish tyres and wheels have been replaced with accurate replacements (and new hubcaps , too !) . When I get a copy of it , the only mods I'm going to make are the addition of a correct brake master cylinder , and the engine / transmission from the AMT 1971 Charger R/T . -
A truly "breakthrough" kit upon its release (late 1986) . I've built countless examples , none survive (thanks mostly to the 1987 Whittier Earthquake) . @tim boyd did a buildup-review of this kit in SAE upon its release ; it was that review that decided me upon buying this great kit ! It's funny in retrospect to recognise that this kit , in its later iterations , was marketed under the Basic Builder banner ! It was one of the most-detailed kits from Monogram --or anyone-- at that time ! ( P.S. : I never had a problem with the notorious "bleed-through" with any of the original releases that I built ---- including a white-painted example !)

No images to share , but... 1.) Sliced the knuckle of the middle finger on my right hand open on the exposed-barb of a metal-spiral-bound hose at work . That stung like mad ! Had a volcano on my knuckle for about a month afterward ; I called it "Mount Olym-Pus" and would squeeze "Knuckle Hummus" out of it under running water . 2.) Had a Staph Infection on the outer-index finger of my left hand . It was a painful , burning-hot , bright red "bulb" --- I got it from an ages-old wooden pallet at work . I was this close to slicing it open with a fresh , sanitised #11 blade , but I couldn't bring myself to do it . A trip to the urgent care centre (for antibiotics and Tylenol 4) --- and the attending P.A. to slice that bulb open with a #11 blade .

Gorgeous looking car ! Excellent craftsmanship ! Those cars were quite common and , indeed , popular here in the "up-over" . Me aunt had a avocado green metallic example ; it was 1974 vintage . Were the models in Oz essentially direct-import models from Japan ?

I'd rather have dealt with lack-of-plating than those POS two-piece tyres that AMT and Revell used back during the Automotive Dark Ages !
