I wonder if the tooling-insert for the 1975-1976 B-Body Fury still exists ?

That thing is AWESOME ! That colour is perfect ; everything looks great ! Is this based upon the 1967 Nickey Camaro kit ?

AAR Cuda Paint Sequence Question

My mistake , mea culpa --- I was *thinking* of the painted tail stripes of the 1970 Challenger R/T . Not sure how I confused the two... -
AAR Cuda Paint Sequence Question
1972coronet replied to Xingu's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The blackout / accent (et al.) paint is actually textured on the 'real' car ; its nomenclature is Organosol --- Here's a page which exhibits that finish : https://the70aarcuda.com/aar-`cuda I'm not sure if you're planning to replicate that textured finish (maybe a moot point in 25th scale) ; however , that gnarly stuff was applied before the rest of the car was painted . -
Is the 427 / 4-speed carried-over from the Super Sport ? I'm not at all familiar with the Supernatural car ; is it a Mark IV as well ? 327 / Powerglide ? A conversion-to-sedan to make a 427-powered 9C1 would be sweet !

Direct Connection launched in 1972 . Previously it was called Hustle Stuff . Direct Connection lasted-in-name from 1972-1988 or 1989 . The Ramchargers were employees whom had a club which worked on side projects / engineering projects on their own time . 1971 Road Runner's elastomeric bumpers were available in limited colours ( to mind right off : Tor-Red [ Hemi Orange] ; FE5 red ; GB5 blue [and maybe GB7 blue] ; GY3 yellow ; FY1 yellow ; GW3 white ) .

Those 'Thermostatic' air cleaners didn't appear until the 1970 model year . The twin snorkel air cleaners --as applied to the high-perf engines-- were typically part of the N97 Noise Reduction Package ( typically , a California-destined option ; that usually excluded embellished tail pipes as well ) . The air cleaner from the Revell 1968-1969 Dart and Charger kits will have the correct "unsilenced" air cleaner .

The Hamtramck / Detroit plant (where these big block Darts were assembled) had *spotty* Q.C. ; chassis / undercarriage overspray varied , as did primer colour (though grey was predominate --- Los Angeles used a black primer) . I wish to advise that the exhaust manifolds were also in-place when the engines were painted ; you may want to install those prior to painting the engine (which , yes , were Engine Turquoise for 1968 ) . The transmission oil pan would be steel (bare) . Keep up the great work !

Chrysler's Electronic (Breakerless) Ignition was , indeed , available for 1971 ; it was a Spring 1971 introduction on the 340 and 426 Hemi .

Grumpy's Toy IX 1972 Vega rebuild
1972coronet replied to magicmustang's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
That 1972 Vega P/S is such a significant piece of history , as it exhibited a radical-shift toward : * Small Block engines ( esp. non-stock-displacements ) * Rack & Pinion steering * Lenco transmission ( correct me if my info is wrong ) * Custom-fabricated chassis Grumpy was such the innovator ( "Slick-Shift" gearbox ) , and this car was a highwater marque ! Keep up the great work ! -
I'm building the c.2000 Street Machine version of the ol' Monogram 1971 'Cuda for my girlfriend . Painted FM3 Moulin Rouge (came out quite nice) with SRX9 interior . I applied the white Billboard decals ; approached it with much apprehension due to the age of the decals . I test-ran the "HEMI" windscreen banner on a piece of painted scrap plastic ; came out nicely ( too bad that the China-made decals don't last for 20 years ! ) , even with the setting solution . Then I applied the V6W stripes ( a tiny bit of hand soap and water on the body ; warm water to release the decals ) then brushed them with the setting solution , and then walked-away ( hahaha ) . They set impressively well , especially given their age . However , some wrinkles did develop (around the door handles and near the wheel well lip) , and I want to rectify the wrinkles : Should I : * Slice the wrinkles with a new , sharp #11 * Brush more setting solution * Hope for the best Please share your advice / experiences . Thanks .

I agree --- I haven't had the Convoy Chaser ( or whatever its name is ) kit since it was new (1977 , IIRC) , so I wasn't aware of the tooling-gaffe ( at age 7 , I paid little attention to the wheels other than they looked like the 'real' cars I'd see every day ). Never-the-less... Those ugly custom wheels in the '75-'76 Dart kits must go . Additionally ; there's a marked "core-shift" in the chassis of the MPC A-body annuals ( et al. ) --- the wheelbase is off from side-to-side . While the AMT '71 Duster can provide a much-improved chassis , etc. , I just wish that the stock chassis was decent enough for an OOB build .

Those fugly custom wheels included in the 1975-1976 Dart Sport annuals and the 1976 Monza look more like a non-stock-to-anything wheel than their ostensible Pontiac Honeycomb or Snowflake wheels . The first time I saw (and purchased, in 1989 ) those wheels was in the '76 Dart . At that time I "dismissed" them as being representative of a dartboard , which was in line with the nomenclature of the subject (and in line with Dodge's T.V. commercials of the era) . Never-the-less... They're fugly , and they need to disappear .

1972 was the last year for the white tiller , and the first year for air conditioning . That white-rimmed wheel was specified -- along with the white handled Unity spot lights -- due to the searing heat ; imagine grabbing the steering wheel rim and having your fingers burn ! 1974 and power steering --- that was the first year for the Firm-Feel steering .

The Cannonball Run - HIGWAY PATROL "Car 42" - 1979-81 Firebird
1972coronet replied to RockinRoller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Real or replica ? It has the el-cheapo fleet trim , and appears to have the beige-brown cloth & vinyl interior ( a CHP model would have a white-rimmed tiller ) . -
Go ahead , EPA , C.A.R.B. , et al. , and dispatch one of your pencil neck geeks to the race track . Chances are very good that those gristled drivers of the "offending" vehicles will run you out of there on a rail !!!!

Best 383/auto combo for a 69 Roadrunner?
1972coronet replied to Fat Brian's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The 1969 "383 Road Runner Engine" was orange --- turquoise if air conditioning was ordered ( i.e. , 330hp due to milder cam specs ) . -
Best 383/auto combo for a 69 Roadrunner?
1972coronet replied to Fat Brian's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
1969 orange could be either the aforementioned Vitamin-C ( code EK2 --- it was called Go-Mango on Dodge ) or , perhaps , the very rare Omaha Orange (special order colour) . -

1972coronet replied to Fat Brian's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Revell's 1968-1969 Dart or 1968-1969 Charger . The engine in the Darts replicates a 383 ( or 440 , depending -- no matter for this instance ) with a 727 TorqueFlite . The air cleaner and rocker arm covers ( colloq. "valve covers" ) are correct for 1968-1969 Chrysler big block engines --- only the left ( driver's side ) exhaust manifold being Dart ( and Barracuda ) specific . The exhaust manifold from the 1968-1969 Chargers' 440 will have the correct driver's side exhaust manifold . Engine should be Chrysler Engine Orange , unless the car had air conditioning --- those engines were Chrysler Turquoise . -
Would be nice if they dumped those stupid custom wheels from the 1975-1976 annuals , and restored the wheels included in the Smokey Chaser issue ; those were Ansen Sprint types . Even better would be the Spyders from the 1974 Duster and the 70's Trans Am kits .

Cool project you've got going on there ! I'd be surprised to find that the CHP , Nevada Highway Patrol , et al. , employed a turbocharged (or any oxidiser for this matter) Firebird , due to reliability . I believe that the NHP colour scheme with CHP marques is a figment of one's imagination ; conversely , unmarqued , different colours pursuit vehicles were , indeed , used by the CHP back then (late 70's , ad seq.) in sparsely-populated sectors ( e.g. , I-40 , I-10 [ east of suburban areas ] , etc. ) . Those cars were either Slicktop Mustangs or Firebirds ( with N/A V8 --- no turbo ) . Never-the-less , with all of that being said , have fun with your cool project ! -
1/25 AMT 1977 Ford Delivery Van w/Coke Machine

For most intents and purposes , 1969 was the last model year for redline tyres , at least on U.S. market , North American manufacture vehicles . Nevertheless , it's nice to see redlines , as they can be used on , say , a 1969 Charger .
