MPC 73 VS 74 Dodge Challenger differences
1972coronet replied to Len Woodruff's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Correct me if my info is incorrect ; the 1972-1974 Challenger and Barracuda MPC annuals still had only a 426 Hemi --- no 340 / 360 . -

Are you referring to the MPC small block Chrysler or the AMT 1971 340 from the c.1998-issue Duster ? The ancient MPC Chrysler LA engines are too small (albeit , likely in-scale --- they just seem to "disappear" in the engine compartment of the 1971-1976 Demon , Duster , and Dart Sport kits (especially under that huge 1970-1971 air cleaner housing !) , but , yes , appear to be closer to 1/26 or 1/28 scale ) . Oddly , the 1977-1980 Volaré kits' SBC / Torqueflite aren't as offensive for some reason --- perhaps it's because the engine compartments are better detailed and a correct air cleaner assembly is included ? The AMT 340 is decent , albeit lacking in certain respects : there's no 'Secondary Engine Breather' (which -should- have two ports : one to the air cleaner base ; one to the vapour return line ) , and no PCV valve ( just a place for one on its respective rocker cover -- a grommet and no valve ! ) . Additionally ; its rocker covers are too up-right (almost like a Buick Nailhead !) , but that's just being picky on my part . Never-the-less... I agree that the fledgling resin folks should hop-on and make some other intake options ( stock single 4 Bbl / Carter AVS ; an 'LD340' intake ; and perhaps an Edelbrock Air Gap and single plane setup ).

Keep up the great work , man ! Cool subject ! I used to see wrecked LAPD and LASO cars all of the time on my routes --- one-of-which was a car involved in the North Hollywood Shootout which was salvageable : its entire passenger-side was wiped , but safely repairable .

Glad that I was on vacation from work that week ! I used to make deliveries in the San Fernando Valley / North Hollywood area ( all-over Los Angeles , really ) ; there's a good chance that I could have been in that area when that went down ! I watched it on T.V. at home ----- I was upset when I saw the vintage Jeep J-Series pickup ( a 1963 model , if I remember ) get blown to bits . Those cars -- and others ( like the 1971 Satellite in the background in one of your photos ) -- are at some LAPD museum of sorts .

I can't wait to see how the AAR's newly-tooled 340 Six Barrel is going to look and how nicely it builds-up .

Back in the 80's and 90's I used Monogram Big-N-Little Good Year tyres as an acceptable substitute ( think : 1970 SS-454 Chevelle 3-in-1 and its bigger rear tyre option ) . I wonder if there's a snowball's chance that Revell -- via petition -- would see fit to tool up some bigger tyres ?

I built that original issue back in c.1980 ( while watching The Carol Burnette Show ! ) , and I don't remember its tooling / casting being as rough and flashy as your sample . Maybe it was because I was 10 years old and didn't pay that close attention ? Either way , the kit built-up nicely (an accomplishment for me back then !) --- let's hope that Round2 cleaned-up the tooling a bit... Keep those updates coming !

68 Mustang question
1972coronet replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Likely a 390 ---- however , since the 390 and 428 ( ad seq. / sub seq. ) were both in the Ford Edsel engine family , those engines were , for most purposes , visually-identical . If I remember correctly , the kit is based upon the Bullitt '68 Sportroof ; the 'real' car was 390-equipped . Later iterations include(d) a Tasca Ford 428 Cobra Jet SS/E version . -
At the very least , Round2 *SHOULD* include the tyres / wheels / hubcaps from the D-100 kit... PLEASE !
-
Both of those toolings were modified ad seq. into other years : 1969-1970 Coronet / Super Bee ; 1971-1974 Charger ; 1973-1976 Road Runner (including the 'phantom' 1976 Road Runner version) . The tooling for the 1972 Road Runner's customising parts *may* still exist ; however , the remainder of the 1971-1972 body was allegedly frigged up some years ago ( it was last issued in its 1971 livery --albeit , with contemporary "upgrades" ---in 1987 before going out-of-production in c.1990 ) . It , in es. , lives on in the various iterations of the 1973-1974 'GTX' , Road Runner , the $10,000 tin version , and the Daisy Duke's Road Runner . BTW : There was no such an animal as a Super Bee convertible , in any year . Maybe Dodge was planning to produce one , but cancelled it last minute . Road Runner convertible ? Absolutely ! 1969-1970 .

Monogram '55 Chevy Street Machine - Box Art Build
1972coronet replied to Nacho Z's topic in Model Cars
That clear "plexiglass" hood scoop appealed to me greatly when I was young (and this iteration of the Monogram '55 was new) . I still like it to this day --- it's a nice customising touch . I wonder if the person who built the box art kit is still around ? -

64 Dodge 330 question.
1972coronet replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The "filler" has the Dodge "tri-star" insignia cast-into it . There was another , much better photo of the bezels and tail lamp assemblies floating around the 'net ; now I can't find them ! EDIT : I apologise if it seems that I'm pulling your thread in another direction ----- here's a link to Hamtramck Historical (thee best Chrysler site , period) , and the 1965 Coronet dealership info catalogue (similar to a brochure) . Apparently , the back-up lamps were included in the higher trim level models , whereas the base model marques the lamps as 'optional' ; this is an early piece of literature . -
64 Dodge 330 question.
1972coronet replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
On a related note : the 1965 calendar year harboured-in a new mandate : reverse ( "back-up" ) lamps . A number of early , built-in-1964 cars' tail lamps were sans these back-up lamps ---- the Landy Coronet had , in addition to the 1964 pushbutton shifter for the trans , one tail lamp with the back-up lamp , and one without the back-up lamp . It's alleged that he had to get a replacement for a cracked tail lamp , and the dealership's parts dept. only had the 31/12/1964 & earlier setup in-stock as a replacement ! Let me see if I can find an image of the interesting two-different-styles lens / bezel : Note that the left-side has the back-up lamps , whereas the right-side has a "filler" . -
Here ! Here ! I would love to see an early Hi-Lux (or , even more-so , a Stout ! ) , early Celica , etc. , etc. !

That's a fair assessment --- I guess that I'm used to 'Out-Of-Stock' meaning 'Out-Of-Production' . Seems like the cast-as-needed business model is a wiser approach . Thanks . -
1/25 AMT '63 Chevrolet Impala SS Hardtop
1972coronet replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I don't remember what I gave for the Bonneville Prestige , but it couldn't have been more than $10 or $11 ; that was in c. July 1987 . The selling points were the display and the BMF-type 'chrome' sheet that were included . beyond that , I wouldn't have justified paying north of $9 or $10 for a single-content kit --- especially since the Diamond In The Rough kit ( 1953 F-100 , trailer , and '39/'40 Ford sedan and the multiple building options therein ) was in the $12 range .
