  1. Is that one of the 1-of-3 Hemi convertibles ? The Canadian-spec model ?
  2. I don't mean to open a crate of apples , but ... Whatever became of the ill-fated AMT 1968 Coronet tooling ?
  3. Just slap some California licence plates on it , and tell everyone it's a 2 year old vehicle !
  4. The problem isn't mutually-exclusive to their Model Master line , though those are the the biggest offenders . In the last 32 years since I've been using them --- albeit , to a much lesser degree than Tamiya --- those lids have been a major source of irritation . No matter how careful I've been to wipe excess paint from the bottle's lip , the stupid lids would 'weld' themselves to the bottle ! Typically , I'll invert the bottle (lid-side-down) , dip a brush into a bottle of paint thinner , touch the wet brush to the lid / bottle junction , and let the thinner 'bleed' around the perimeter . Give it a few minutes to soften the paint , and voila ! As far as Tamiya and Gunze bottles are concerned : If the lids don't cooperate , I'll run them under running hot water from the faucet . Periodically , I'll gently 'tap' the lid's flat top surface with pliars' flat-side *if* the lid doesn't want to loosen on its own . I have two bottles of paint that are over 30 years old , and they're just as good as the day I opened them : (1) bottle of Tamiya Clear Red , (1) bottle of Gunze Clear Orange .
  5. Looking great , Jason ! When this kit was first released (c.2003) , I painted it GA4 , too ! Such a super colour ! I did up mine with white interior ; came out quite nice . Those one-of-two French export models are amazing ; the first one was GA4 , and was the first 1971 Hemi'Cuda droptop built . The other one was GW3 Sno-White , and was the very last 1971 Hemi'Cuda droptop built . What are the chances ?? Keep up the great work !
  6. Well , since Revell is going for 14" wheels for this stock Charger R/T , why not change it up some ? Personally , I like the W11 wheel covers : http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/DealershipDataBook/1970/70_Charger0010.jpg Note that this is from the Charger brochure , and that the ( yawn ) Road Wheels are available , 14" and all . Now , compare that with the same year Challenger wheel options : http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/DealershipDataBook/1970/70_Challenger0010.jpg "N. A . With 426 Hemi." . Interesting that the B-body Hemi could be had with those in 14" , whereas a same year E-body could not . Oh , well . Such a nit-picky issue that I proposed , huh ? I suppose that my dislike of the Road Wheels and their presence in every flippin' Monogram MoPar kit in the 80's is what drove me to "disprove" their presence with the Hemi Package , 1969-1971 .
  7. I stand corrected regarding the 15" wheels / mandated with Hemi . Even searching through the Hamtramck Historical library , I couldn't find any evidence that the 15" wheels were mandated . Perhaps I'm getting my ages-old information crossed-up ; perhaps it was only in 1969 that 15" were mandated ? Maybe that was only the 1969 1/2 Six Pack / 6 Bbl models ? Never-the-less ... Frankly , I'm surprised that anyone would "want" 14" wheels with that detuned race engine , let alone the 440 (even in standard 375 hp tune) . As an interesting side note ; anyone ever witness a car with "R20" ? It was a 'Radio Ready Package' ; one got everything except for the receiver ( i.e. , speakers , wiring , etc. ) . I saw a '70 R/T Charger ( 440 Magnum ) at the Spring Fling V show not too long after learning of the option . I couldn't believe it !
  8. The wheels shown on the prototype are the Road Wheels ( colloq. , "Magnum 500s" ) , and are not factory-correct for a Hemi powered car from 1970 , as 15" wheels were standard / mandatory when the Hemi Package was ordered . Plymouth & Dodge Road Wheels were 14" . However , this didn't stop the dealers from adding the fancier Road Wheels as a sales tactic . 15" Rallye Wheels are the ones that you're thinking of . It was either those or plain steelies with hubcaps (which were standard fare) .
  9. This is great news ! Nothing short of amazing that Round2 is going to rework and reissue the stock version of the popular Datsun Pickup ! Truly , I'd like to see the small V8 find its way into this issue ; the camper shell from the c.1978 version , too ( BlackHawk , IIRC ) . Now , where's the tooling for the excellent MPC 1980's Toyota Celica / Supra ? One of their finest kits , ever .
  10. Be nice if Round2 would include the "reimagined" 1970 Super Bee / 1968 Road Runner ( et al. ) chassis , etc. , to replace the outdated cachu parts of the Charger ... ...and , add some period-correct custom wheels , too ( Cragar S/S would be correct for a Landy car ) .
  11. ...But , then again , perhaps Dandy's relatives ( wife , son Robert , daughter Danette , etc. ) would give their blessing to have this kit reissued in its original Dick Landy livery . Now THAT is a kit I would buy !
  12. My sentiment precisely : not bustin' anyone's chops here ; just asserting that the cap is correct . That survivor 1980 Road Runner ( link provided by Brett ... thank you , Brett ! ) is amazing ! My first thought was , That car's paint is too nice ! There's no way that Hamtramck laid that TX9 Black paint down ! Then I noticed it's a St. Louis Assembly model ( ..."GAG" = G-318 Two Barrel , A-1980 Model Year , G-St. Louis , Missouri , Assembly ) . Much better Q.C. at that facility !
  13. I remember these cars from when they were new --- the "bottlecap" fuel cap is correct . Last time I saw one ? 1992 ! A customer's ( I worked at a Full-Serve fuel station ) 1980 Aspen had that thing on it . Oddly -- or not -- the 1979 Road Runner and Aspen R/T had the hottest 360 offering : 195 hp ( E58 code ) with an "almost" true dual exhaust ( 2-into-1-into-2 ; a concession to the offset fuel tank ) . By the following year , the cough-and-wheeze 318 was the top offering ( with a tree-pulling 120 hp four barrel ! ) , as the 360 was relegated to 4 door sedan models ( and would completely disappear in passenger car applications the following year : 1981 ). Another 1980-only offering ? A colour-keyed Tuff-Grip steering wheel . Previous years' version ( 1971-1979 ) were all black rim .
  14. I laughed aloud when I read your opening line "...lame eighties / nineties 'Recaro' seats..." , as I , too , can't stand that poodle poop ! I notice that those hideous 90's custom wheels found their way into this issue ... ...instead of the trash bin where they belong ! {{{ shutter }}} That ugly 80's & 90's custom stuff should never see the light-of-day again , ever !
  15. Flash ! Bam ! Pow ! Spectacular 'Freak' ! Excellent colour choices !
  16. Another outrageous Poncho ! Good lord that is beautiful ! Fantastic work , Steve !
  17. I grew up just around the corner from Ricker Motors Nash-Rambler-AMC in west Whittier , Ca. Ricker was recognised as one of the high-performance AMC dealerships (especially after Bill Kraft closed ; they were in Norwalk , just off of the 101 Santa Ana Freeway) . Shirley Shahan's 1969 Hurst / AMX ended up back at Ricker at the end of 1970 ; I remember seeing it around Ricker's back lot in the early-mid 70's when I was quite young ! Its Lexan door glass was shattered --- as all that one had to do was sneeze within the proximity of that stuff and it would shatter ! I'd seen a few Trans Am Javelins around , in addition to another Hurst / AMX ( at least it was painted like a Hurst S/S model ... and it sounded mean ! ) . BTW : Los Angeles Police Dept's Rampart Division had a 1972 Matador until 1986 ! Those cars had staying power , offering superior performance over its peers ; handling and power were unbeatable ! So , yes , I would love to see more AMC kits !
  18. Just a good ol' goof . I love Moebius' products ; I love that they're producing "oddball" vehicles ! In reality , I'd like to see : - 1973-1977 GM A-bodies - 1971 Hornet S/C 360 - 1970-1972 El Camino / GMC Sprint - 1975-1978 Monaco / Fury police car ( that MPC kit is quite long in the tooth ... and its inaccuracies are a bit off-putting : manual trans , 8 3/4 rear , giant wheels / tyres , and zero underhood details -- including an incorrect appearance for 1975 & later B-bodies ) - 1993-1996 9C1 Caprice - 1970 Mustang Sportroof ( again , long in the tooth ... ) - 1971-1976 Camaro -1973-1980 C10 / C15 two-wheel-drive ( I know ; the "C" prefix alludes to two-wheel-drive ...) -1980-1986 F-100 / F-150 ( again , two-wheel-drive ) -1972 Charger Rallye / Road Runner / GTX I could go on-and-on , ad nauseam , but my point is made .
  19. Very , very beautiful LS23M8B ! Reminds me quite a bit of the 1969 GTS me and my friends owned ( a three-way partnership ) some 24 years ago : 496" ( 440 with a Kellogg crank ) , Art Carr 727 ( 3,000 RPM converter , manual valve body , zero-overlap shift , bolt-in sprag ) , 8 3/4 with 3.23 Sure Grip . It originally had a 340 ; original owner performed the big block swap in 1986 ( and used a Direct Connection spool-mount K-member ) . That thing was loud , mean , and nasty ! Looking at yours , I can still hear the gnarly exhaust note , the smoking of the tyres , and every car alarm going off within 5 miles !
  20. - Subaru Justy - Yugo GT - Citation II four door
  21. Any plan to make that rascal into a Street Racer's Special ?
  22. 1971 Barracuda ( "BH" Barracuda , "BP" Grand Coupe , and "BS" 'Cuda ) were available with Elastomeric bumpers ; colours were limited to EV2 (Tor-Red) , GW3 (Sno-White) , GY3 ( Curious Yellow ** ) , FY1 (Lemon Twist) , and GB7 (Evening Blue Metallic) . The grille was also body colour when the Elastomeric bumper was ordered ( and one could order a body colour grille separately from the bumpers ) ; no argent grille with body colour bumpers . Here's thee definitive MoPar resource : http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1971PlymouthDealershipDataBook-02.shtml ** = Curious Yellow was named after the adult film of the same name from 1967 I Am : Curious Yellow
