1.1 cars that got away
1972coronet replied to l88 chevelle's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My first car was a 1972 Dart Swinger ( LH23G2B307811 ) , factory EV2 Hemi Orange , white top , white interior . 318 / 904 , etc. I gave 800$ for it on 29.08.1989 ... ...and sold it on 04.07.1999 for 3,500$ . My cousin had a 1970 Challenger ; a very-early production , FC7 Plum Crazy , black top and interior . 318 / 904 , etc. She drove it off of the showroom of Atlantic Dodge ( same dealer whom sponsored Charlie Allen ) in September 1969. I prodded her for years : "When you sell it , give me 'first refusal' ." About a week after I bought my Dart , she sold the Challenger !!! I shockingly asked , "Why ever did you do that ??" , to which she replied , "Well , you bought that [Dart] , so I didn't think you wanted my Challenger any more !" ARRRG! !! -
Round 2 February 2017 Product Spotlight
1972coronet replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Unfortuunately , no . The only gearbox is the 3 speed with overdrive , although I can't account for its accuracy ( Tulio? Any other Blue Oval techies? ... ) -
Excellent ! Thanks for the direct-link , Caine! ( that 1980 4 door Volare trans-kit looks like a winner , too . I was just thinking about 4 door F-bodies last night ! )

Round 2 February 2017 Product Spotlight
1972coronet replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Two complete FE 352 engines / transmissions , with three induction options ( single 4 barrel, 3 two barrels , and two 4 barrels ... but I could be wrong ) . I still have the c.2008 issue , unbuilt. That FE engine is a nice piece ! -
I'm still waiting for a 1972-1974 conversion for the new-tool Revell 1970 'Cuda!
-
The entire transmission is cast iron , excepting its oil pan which is stamped steel . If I remember rightly , the parking brake drum is a semi-gloss black . As a sidebar ; the TorqueFlite had 2 oil pumps through 1965 . That feature enabled the so-equipped vehicle to be push-started (!) EDIT: Here's a photo of a c.1957 TorqueFlite ( attached to an 'A' -Family engine )
-
Nice work so far ! Don't forget to paint the gearbox in Cast Iron, as TorqueFlites ( A-488 ) were iron until 1962 * * = excepting the A-904-G , which was aluminimum from the beginning .

1/25 Jeep Gladiator
1972coronet replied to Casey's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Not sure how or why I missed this WIP the first time , but now it's got my attention and interest ! Wasn't the Tornado 6 an OHC engine ? Not that you're going that route ; I just thought that the Tornado was similar to the Pontiac 230 / 250 OHC ? -

Divided by a common tongue
1972coronet replied to DonW's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"Rear Window" is colloquial for "Backlight" . A window is a piece of glass which can be opened in some fashion ; a stationary piece of glass is a light ( excepting , of course , the windscreen. ). -

I'm a U. S. native , born of Welsh , Scots , and Irish heritage. For as long as I can remember , I've employed "alternate" spellings ...and have dated things as date/month/year. ( 17.01.2017 ) .Why , you ask ? Simply because I prefer the "s" to the"z" ( ergo : realise versus realize ; the "s" just flows nicer with the other letters ). But , then again , I'm also the sort of dork whom utilises 24 hour format ( ante-meridian/ post-meridian time irritates me ! ). -
MPC/Round 2 - Pony Express is back from the grave!
1972coronet replied to Faust's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
"Sav On" was the name of a chain of drug stores ( not sure what the European equivalent would be of a "drug store" --- a nomenclature that's fallen out of favour over the last twenty-ish years in the States . Think : market whose primary 'items' are of pharmaceutical nature ) . Never-the-less. ; Sav On had a unique, but not offencive, odour about it ... And many decades later , I can still recall it to my senses. -

I'm still awaiting for the Chevette and the MPC 1978 Monza ( read : "Mighty Mouse" ) to see the light of day again . Hopefully the latter would be possible. .. ( Every time I even think about the various Monza annuals from MPC, I automatically smell the Sav On that was inside the Whittwood Mall . A similar sensation is catalysed when I think about the Datsun Pickup , Dodge Pickup , and Chevy Pickup annuals ; I smell and feel the Sears in Santa Fe Springs ). -

Already ?? Come on !! Not even a full-week into the year ... ( Certainly, I'm not the only one whom noticed the rare Autolite Inline 4 Barrel on that SBF! ) -

Round 2 ... It's in their name ! Keep up the GREAT work , guys ! Certainly I'm not alone here ; I positively LOVE the latest and oddball Pacer , Monza, Volare, etc.,etc.????? -
Casey, Don , Rob, et al. - Thanks much for the links , photos , and year-to-year nuances ! Looks like I'm going to have to step up production at my weekend job as a Regional Lemonade Stand Manager in order to fund my investment in this beauty ?. Thanks again , all. Let's keep this thread going here ?

Has anyone bought the reissue c.1978 Monza? Curious about its contents ...

**Worthless Autocorrect Strikes AGAIN ** "Inbuilt" = UNbuilt "Callous" = CALLOUTS Please , 2016 , take autocorrect with you during your conquest of musicians !!!!

I have an inbuilt 1972 annual in my 'Some Day ...' pile . Even though the Arlen Vanke decals have the styllised' Hemi' callous ( just like Vanke's Pro Stock Duster had ) , the only engine is the ( underscale) 340 / 4 speed ( with automatic shiftier / console ; the console with 4 speed was dropped after the 1969 model year in A-bodies ) . Of interesting note : the 1972 Duster annual was the last time that torsion bars were included (?!?) . Apparently , the addition of the Hemi ( via the late 1972 'California Flash' Pro Stock version ) , the moulded-in torsion bars were ostensibly deleted ; 1973 & up Duster and Dart Sport are sans t-bars. Where can I find pics of your 1972 ?
-
The 1972 Duster annual has the 340 only .

When you revisit the Hamtramck Historical site , go to their "Library" page ; there you will find brochures and catalogues .http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1972DealershipDataBook-04.shtml

"Strange is truer than fiction..." ! That is my one-time , long-time daily driver ( 2005-2013 ) , covered in actual snow . I recognize that you reside in San Diego ; don't you remember that snow from a couple of years ago ? Never-the-less ... that car was , shall we say , uncomfortable as a daily driver ; to wit : - No Heater. - No Defogger / Defroster - No Radio - No A/C - No floor covering - Completely un-upholstered front seat ( e.g. , worn out cushion , and zero seat cover ) Its good points ? - No Emissions Tests - No Smog Devices - No "Bells & Whistles" alerting you of your every move - Would run on any gasoline grade ( which , as a side note , I dumped 5 gallons of 110 Ethyl "Racing Gas" into its tank as a ["expletive deleted] you !" to the gas thieves whom were siphoning gas from vehicles in the complex . I wonder how that super-leaded gas treated the catalytic converter(s) of their new(er) car ? Ha ha ha ha !!! ). - Got an honest 15 MPG average ( 318 / 904 with Trans-Go kit , 2.71 gear ). But , I digress ... Have you taken the opportunity to peruse that Hamtramck Historical Chrysler site yet ?
