The modifications made to accommodate the flush backlight ( colloq. , "rear 'window'" ) necessitated the vinyl top . Same with the black-only headliner .

The closest match for Petty Blue is Chrysler's own TB3 Super Blue (Dodge) Basin Street Blue (Plymouth) . While its colour code indicates '1962 [the "T" in the number] Corporate Blue' , it wasn't assigned as a regular option until the 1972 model year . It is very , very close to Petty Blue .

None of the classrooms were air conditioned at the high school (nor the elementary nor the middle school ) I "attended" ... and that was only 30-ish years ago ... complete with 2nd and 3rd Stage Smog Alerts . Just glad that I didn't have to walk barefoot in the snow uphill ...

If you're so inclined , Jerry , you can also pick-up the Revell-Monogram 1970 Road Runner kit , and use its interior ; it would be a more accurate addition (versus the GTX interior included with the Superbird). Then you can use the GTX 'bucket in the Road Runner (the GTX interior was an option on the Road Runner vis-a-vis deluxe interior) ; that way you're not losing any investment .

At 1113 hrs , the temp is already 109 degrees here in Murrieta , Ca. !

Thanks for the info regarding that beauty . 360 / 4-speed is rare , as it was a 1974-only option ; by '75 , all were automatics only . That casting appears to be from Competition Resins . I know that you bought it via eBay , so my guess that it's from C.R. is pure speculation . Where did you get the Motor Wheels Flys ?

'67 Dodge Charger, MPC or Revell?
1972coronet replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not aware of any '66-'67 kits with the Dana 60 , so one would have to semi-scratch-build one for the Revell '67 GTX / RO23 // Coronet / Charger ; Dana 60 centre , with Evergreen tubing for the axle tubes . Perhaps a Torqueflite conversion would be easier (e.g. , the trans from one of the Revell '68-'69 Dart kits , and the brake pedal arrangement from the same). The one that I built was a "build-this-for-me-and-I-don't-care-about-chassis-details" commissions . Starting with the 1966 model year , Chrysler started employing the Dana 60 for 4-speed / Hemi cars (making a '64-'65 Hemi / 4-speed / 8.75" rear correct) . Here's the breakdown : - 440 , 440+6 , Hemi : Torqueflite / 8.75" rear standard . 4-speed / Dana 60 was optional . And , yes , a Dana 60 / Torqueflite combo was an option . Exceptions ? All 1969 1/2 440 Six Pack / Six Barrel Super Bee / Road Runner came with the Dana , regardless of transmission . Also , no Dana 60 / air conditioning combo ; same with air conditioning and 440+6 or Hemi . - 340 , 383 : These were all 8.75" , regardless of transmission . -
Man , that is nice !! Is that a '73 340 ? '74 360 ? Just wondering about the SS/L class ; seems to be in line with a 340 or 360 of '73 or '74 vintage ( Judy Lily's Dart was in SS/KA ) . How was that resin to work with ?

'67 Dodge Charger, MPC or Revell?
1972coronet replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've built the Revell "brother" to their '67 Charger , the '67 GTX ; I can only speak to that kit and its contents . While there are lots of excellent features , there are a few easily-fixable weak points : - Incorrect rear axle . The kit has a Hemi / 4-speed with 8.75" rear ; that is incorrect . It should either have a Torqueflite / 8.75" or 4-speed / Dana 60 (the Dana could be had with the Torqueflite , too ). - 4-paddle direct-drive fan . Again , incorrect for a Street Hemi ; only the Super Stock version had the smaller fan . Should have a 7-paddle clutch fan . Other than those two "flubb-ups" , it's a great kit . Not sure if the Charger has the same options as the GTX ( headers , Super Stock air cleaner , hood scoop , Keystone wheels [ though I have seen the Chager with Cragar S/S ] , vintage 7" slicks , etc. ) , or if that's even of interest to you . -

I realise that this thread is nearly 5 years old ; I found it through "six degrees" of internet image search . Ne'er-the-less ... Steve Bagwell , et al. , "updated" that 1970 to '1971' guise strictly to pursue the SS/EA thorn-in-Chrysler's-side , the Ray Allen 1970 LS-6 convertible . Why the visual year change ? Because Chrysler "fudged" the shipping weight of the 1971 models , making them "heavier" than their 1970 predecessor ; that placed the '71 Hemi'Cuda squarely in SS/E(A) , whereas the '70 was SS/D(A) . From what I'd read about that changling '70 Hemi'Cuda drop-top , the car was "returned" to 1970 guise , complete with the $5,000 Bagwell paintjob ... with a sponsor decal covering the 1971-only "fender gills" . Apparently only one tech inspector recognised the decals' odd placement , and asked its then-current owner / driver , "If I poke this [decal] with my pencil , will the pencil go-through ?" Ha ha ha ! -
Then there's the MPC (or was it an AMT) 1977 Mustang II from c.2003 vis-a-vis RC2 era . Here's a reasonablly-priced example : http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMT-ERTL-1977-Ford-Mustang-II-Custom-1-25-scale-Model-Kit-Sealed-Orig-Box-V12-/391482202767?hash=item5b26285a8f:g:ZYUAAOSwGIRXXujw

I *believe* that the AMT Capri annuals had the 2.7 / 2.8 litre V6 , no ?

Kits with Old style BF Goodrich TA Radials
1972coronet replied to fractalign's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Practically every MPC annual kit in the 80's had those (stupid) tyres ! This was especially frustrating when it came to the '84-'87 (or '88) Corvettes ; those cars had VR50's on them from the factory , but MPC didn't see fit to tool up a set for the Vettes (or even the Firebird / Camaro kits) . IMO , those BFG's look like dog dung on an otherwise stock kit . And , yes , they were / are polystyrene eaters . That's esp bad when the glass ( another sore point ! That ridiculously dark glass ruined the look ! ) is their victim -

First thing I'd do is leave California ! All that any-one would see of me would be butt cheeks and elbows . A sabbatical would definitely be in order , too . I'm thinking that travelling to Germany , Spain , Japan , Wales , Scotland , Ireland , and England would "suffice" An underground garage would be in order ; resistant to the elements --esp in a locale that's not prone to earthquakes . As far as dream vehicles : - 1969 COPO Chevelle - 1969 COPO Camaro - 1968 COPO Nova ( think : Fred Gibb 375 hp 396 with TH-400 ) - 1971-1972 GMC Sprint SP-1 - 1964 Chevelle Custom 300 2 door wagon - 1953-1955 F-100 in 60's custom livery - 1958-1959 Ford Ranchero or Fairlane - 1971 Swinger Special 340 - 1972 Swinger Special 340 - Baldwin-Motion Phase III 1970-1973 Camaro - 1971-1972 Matador coupe I could go on and on ... -
1965 Plymouth Fury. Update, 7/27, WHEW!
1972coronet replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I know what you mean . I'm s-l-o-w-l-y building an AMT 1969 Chevelle SS-396 Convertible (the recent re-issue from Round2) and have limited my-self to using the kit's custom hood scoop and front & rear fascias . Bonnet will be 'glued' shut ; interior will be black ; not sure on wheels yet ; and just a nice paint job ( Aztec Gold ) . Okay , I shaved the door handles and side emblems , but kept the side markers and the 'Chevelle' emblems on the front and rear . I have kits that I've avoided getting into simply because they "require" some changes / additions . I can't bring my-self to building them straight-out-of-the-box . While I enjoy a nicely-detailled chassis , I don't personally prioritise them on my builds . I concentrate on correct colours and clean assembly , and that's it . BTW , that single-well master cylinder looks great ! -
1969 440 Six Pack Super Bee body color
1972coronet replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
"EV2" Hemi Orange ( Tor-Red in Plymouth-ese ) is a metallic paint , clear-coat required . Another alternative is "EK2" Go-Mango ( Vitamin C for Plymouth ) , which was also a 1969 colour ( the "E" in the code = "1969" ) . -
Not to mention the 1969 340 being turquoise ; 1968 340 was red .
-
Yes , those are "mould lines" or "separation lines" or "casting lines" . Dress 'em down with an emery board .

I'm glad that some-one else recommended the brake master cylinder upgrade before I did ! Thanks , Bill A. , for suggesting that . Steve , that looks so much better than that piece of dung that was there originally . But , I do have to give Jo-Han some credit ; at least they attempted to simulate a master cylinder , whereas AMT and MPC just left a smooth spot on the firewall of their kits ! -
Whilst perusing the Model Roundup site , I perchanced to notice this nifty lookin' Coming Soon item : http://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/amt-r2-1012.htm

Fixing a Bird (or There He Goes Again!)
1972coronet replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
@ Obsessive Bill - That Bendix Electro-Jector setup is beyond rare ! There's exactly one car existing with that induction ; a 1958 DeSoto convertible ! Rambler ran the Bendix on some prototype 327 Nash engines , but decided against using the system . For those of you whom aren't familiar with what is so special about the 1958 Electro-Jector : it was the first application of electronic fuel injection on an automobile . It was an epic failure , but it elicited enough interest that Bosch bought the design , and eventually turned it into their famous "__ -Jetronic" series .
