Altered wheelbase...why?
1972coronet replied to MrBuick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool ! Thanks for the info ! I was thinking of the 1967 Ramchargers' Dart "Flopper" ; it had a steel roof , direct from Hamtramck . -
Altered wheelbase...why?
1972coronet replied to MrBuick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Those '66 "Floppers" must have been unreal to see for the first time ! IIRC , that was a partnership between FoMoCo and DST (Dearborn Steel Tubing) . Weren't *some* of the panels still production (body-in-white) stamped steel ? -

The 1975-1976 Dart Sport has its origins based in the 1971 Demon 340 . That tooling is ancient , dating back to 1970 ! From the 1971 Duster 340 was born the mid-1971 Demon 340 ; followed by the 1972 Duster 340 ; the 1973 Duster 340 (first time for the Hemi to appear as an optional engine) ; 1974 Duster 360 ; 1975 Duster & Dart Sport 360 ; and finally , the 1976 Dart Sport . I have the latest edition of the (restored) Dart Sport tooling , and am pleased with it overall . Any of its "faults" are with the MPC original (e.g. , manual transmission with automatic console and shifter) . I could definitely see the "core-shift" with the tooling ; the Hemi engine block halves didn't line-up ; the heads sat crooked on their decks ; and both of the intake manifolds didn't line-up . Oh , well ! Great to see this kit have its stock parts restored . Great to have that kit again ! Absolutely ! There are lots of differences between the 1971 A-bodies and their successive 1975-1976 offerings ; I'll limit the list to scale model changes : - Interior . The upholstery is completely different , as are the door panels . Instruments are 100% different (1971 Demon 340 has 'Rallye' Instruments) . - Tail Light Panel . - Front 'Clip' ( firewall-forward ) - Rallye Wheels' Centres ( 1970-1971 centres were 'cone-shaped' ) An all-new tooling 1971 Demon would be welcomed greatly !

Drawing . Ever since I could hold a pen in my hands (so , 40+ years) . Here's an anecdote ; when I was in Pre-School (ages 3-5) I was drawing and painting in-perspective already . I couldn't figure as to why every-one was making such a big deal out of my drawings and paintings ! Writing . I've always done Creative Writing , but ever since reading Burroughs and Iceberg Slim , I decided to take a plunge into writing . My novella's working title is Dans les Coleurs du Blanc et Noir .

Radio Birdman gets my vote : https://youtu.be/QmIF-vHjMkg Their name is a modengreen of a Stooges' lyric from 1970 ( I Feel Alright ) which was , "...Radio burning / up above ..."

BTW : I positively love how your restoration turned out !

The body-coloured grille was an option , and was limited to certain colours ( from memory : Sno-White , B5 blue , B7 blue , Sassy Grass , Butterscotch , Tor-Red , E5 red , F7 or F8 green ) . The body-coloured grille was also part of the Elastomeric ( rubber ) Bumper Package ( option also included front-only , or front and rear ) , which was also limited to certain aforementioned paint colours. Same goes for the 'painted' mirrors (and the option for one ( driver's side ) or both . The so-called "Billboard Stripes" was standard with 340 , 383 HP , 440+6 , and Hemi . A "delete" option was also available .

Altered wheelbase...why?
1972coronet replied to MrBuick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've seen period photos of 1965 'RO51' ( Belvedere Super Stock ) AWB's with the typical nose-up stance , and a compare / contrast photo of another 'RO51' with its nose-down and a chin spoiler . Apparently as early as 1965-1966 , the theory of aerodynamics was applied to the AWB's . I'd have to search for the photo ; it was part of an article written by Al Kirshenbaum [sp] in c.1997 . EDIT : August 1997 issue of Mopar Action : http://www.moparaction.com/Next/history/aug1997.html -

Thank you for the quick responce . One of my cousins had one of those cars ( and a Datsun 2 door wagon , too ) , so I have a sentimental connection to them . Too bad that the organisation that made that kit is no long in operations . -

That truly is a beauty , Marcelo ! I remember when the original was released ; it was during the summer of 1988 . I recall that so well , as a friend was reluctant to buy it as it had the Revell name attached to it ! Ha ha ha ! Both of us survived the 'Dark Ages' of Revell (e.g. , the 1970's) and were both extremely cynical about anything with the Revell name attached to it . Upon further review by yours truly , I was able to ascertain its Monogram heritage ( i.e. , its chassis had its roots in the early 80's Monogram Pro Stock series ) , but with a 1987-1988 Thunderbird body . He still wasn't convinced . I bought one and built a beautiful replica out of it ! My friend was miffed ; nowe he wanted one ! Ha ha ha ! But , I digress ... Your workmanship is splendid ! Keep those awesome builds coming ! -

Is that a new(er) kit ? I would not mind getting a hold of one of them if they are still available . -

Plum crazy purple with what interior color
1972coronet replied to Riley Customs's topic in WIP: Model Cars
FC7 Plum Crazy ( Dodge ) In-Violet ( Plymouth ) seem to have either white or black interiors ( though I could swear that I've seen a '70 Duster with B5 / B7 interior ) . In my opinion , white pairs best with that shade of purple metallic , even though black was the choice of the dealers' stock orders . Why ? "White interior cars don't sell." . While I've never seen that statement as being validated , it does stand to reason , especially in an era where air conditioning was an expensive option (and its availability was limited at that) . One of my older cousins bought a brand new 1970 Challnger in Sept. '69 . It was a showroom model at Atlantic Dodge in East Los Angeles . It was FC7 with white interior , directly from the Los Angeles Assembly Plant . -
I fondly recall your articles and buildups in Scale Auto Enthusiast from 30+ years ago . Welcome 'back' , George !

You're right . I was going on the assumption that most of us were aware of the R/T door scoops and the tail panel (albeit , to a lesser extent) , so that's why I focused in on the changes in the boiler room . The crankcase breather was swapped to the passenger-side ( evapourative emissions / sealed 'return' fuel lines ) and the PCV was moved to the driver's side . Likewise , the oil fill cap was now stand-alone ; no longer a crankcase breather / oil fill combo . Naturally , Air Grabber and Ramcharger equipped engines ( 340 , 383 HP , 440 HP , 440+6 , and 426 Hemi ) were sans the 'stovepipe' air cleaner . However , the '70 Charger (and its '66-'69 predecessors) didn't have either Fresh Air Intake , so that's of little consequence .

I , too , hope that the Fast & Furious Charger includes a stock building option . It'll mark the first time since MPC's 1970 annual kit that we've seen a stock 1970 Charger ! EDIT : I also hope that if a stock 440 Magnum is included that R-M tools the correct 1970 & later valve covers , and the new-for-1970 air cleaner ( cold start emissions style; the 'stovepipe' on the left-side manifold which connects to its respective snorkle ).

With the MPC Reissues , I Wonder If ...
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks , Steve M. I've never even *heard* of that kit ! It's been ever bit of 30 years since I've had the Super Charger , and at that time ( I was 11 years old ) I didn't pay attention to the stock vs. modified bodylines . -
My *disdain* for the majority of Led's catalogue definitely is due in no small part to the ad nauseam play their songs receive on the radio . That being said ; I like songs such as Ocean (Yes , lots of radio play , but not nearly as much as the others) , In The Evening , Tramplled Under Foot , and maybe a couple I'm forgetting at the moment . My 'assertion' that Page was better off in the Yardbirds was partly tongue-in-cheek , as I really like Blow-Up

1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I didn't know that the 1/25 scale 1973-1974 Charger was also "hacked" into a Stock Car type thing . I know about the 1/16 scale Charger (recently reissued as the 1978 iteration) . -
I'm a visual artist ; and to add to what's been stated previously : we all learn by imitating some-one else's work . The big difference is that I've never profited from stealing / plagerising another's work ! I've been writing my first novella ( its working title is The Protected Spœcies ) , and yes , I've quoted song lyrics periodically throughout ; how-ever , full credit will be given to the artists' names , and their influence / inspiration will be emphasised . In my opinion , Led Zeppelin is so-so at best . There's maybe 3-5 songs that I like that they perform , but that's it . Jimmy Page was better off as a member of the Yardbirds ; his role in Blow-Up certainly bested any-thing he did in Yawn Zeppelin .

Looks like an incorrect-for-a-1971-Thunderbird F.E.-Series ( 352-360-390-427-428 ) backed by a 4-speed ( I'm not sure if the Thunderbird of this era could be had with a manual transmission ) .
