Custom Body Dart Sport FC WIP
Chris in Berwyn replied to Chris in Berwyn's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Its Revell tin. Short extensions on the sides as shown as I moved the engine forward to get it sticking out of the windshield a bit. I also got the body to sit lower, so had to modify the doghouse for the scoop. That required a new windshield with a bigger opening. It is boiling hot out - maybe I should do some gluing on this this PM. I’m calling the body “good to go.” -

This is a pretty sorry excuse for an update but this is coming along. Paint and decals were salvaged from the clear coat problem. This will never be a contest car, but it wasn’t intended to be anyway. If you ever decide to build one of these, Chuck Boerner is redoing the Revell decals. He will include the white hood, roof and trunk stripes which will make decaying MUCH easier. Here are pix of the engine, tires and some of the this car had cool anodized tin and this was my take on it with an airbrush. -
Regarding the 76 Vega FC: If they decided to rebrand the MPC Vega FC as AMT this could be it as it uses the same chassis as the Soapy Sales Dodge and Kaliita and Hot Rod Mustang FCs from a few years back (EDIT - upon further review, I am not sure I am right on that) On the other hand the below “late model” AMT Vega FC uses the same chassis as the Trojan Horse Mustang 2 they put out recently. That kit has numerous issues including no pedals or shifter! And this Vega body is a pretty wild interpretation of what a Vega Wagon FC would have looked like.

George Barris Villa Rivera and RTS RR
Chris in Berwyn replied to dragmodels44's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very nice paint! I just watched an episode of Chasing Classic Cars that featured the Villa Riv. I looked more into it and I am going to look on Netflix to see if they have the movie it appeared in available. I also think I will pick up the kit. Looking fwd to seeing yours done! BTW, assume you meant Hemi Orange and not Hemp Orange, but hemp is getting pretty popular these days!!! -
Round2 tooled the NASCAR COTs too. They came out several years after the PL acquisition. PL did tool the newer Ford GT, the GTO convertible, and maybe a few other snappers.

They also tooled up the Batmobile and some NASCAR COT snappers. They look to have figured out their new tool ROI is better on sci fi stuff.

So if I am reading that right, witha half off coupon you get 2 sets of great tires, plus a Camaro kit, for about the same price as a Parts Pack of tires!

This is reminding me of back when I was 12 or 13 and I’d open the box to a certain smell all that plastic had and these parts - they look so familiar and are baked into my brain - esp. the one piece tinwork. Looking fwd to seeing this complete.

Looks good to me! That body first came out when I was in college. I thought the Grand Prix was the best looking, followed by the Cutlass

That is a nice build!

I was thinking I wish I’d tried that body work you did, but then realized the decals would not have fit! And I need to get another coat of clear in this. But given the weather I’ve been doing more outdoor things in my free time. I do want to get this finished though. -
First, I wish I had the nerve to try and pull that off - it looks great! What did you use to fill in the hood - sheet plastic and filler? You might want to see if there is a way to open the side windows up vertically - Ramchargers and this Custom Body car seem to be like that. https://www.google.com/search?q=custom+body+dart+funny+car&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari#imgrc=5ER1EfInBxllaM:

Those are actually kit decals except for the white stripe on hood, roof and trunk. I am planning to put more clear on today - the decals have caused me some problems!! -

I am from Rome but my dad wouldn’t take my brother and I to U-R when Phil was running. Only got to go there once as my dad hated and still hates loud things. -

Thanks. The wheels are Alclad Chrome, but do look darker than other things I have hit with Alclad - I was trying to go a bit lighter on the Alclad to see how it turned out. The fronts are from Comp Resins, so I did the fronts and back wheels so they would match. -

All was well but I applied too much Tamiya clear at once which attacked the decals. Have another set which I think I am going to need. This will be sitting in the pits and not getting to NNL East. -

Virtually everything painted. Decals next. The extra gray area at the rear made masking easier. Since I’m doubling up decals hopefully the white decal sections will look the same whether they are over gray or black parts of the car. I’d like to get it done for NNL East - wish me luck! -
Tire Letter Decals
Chris in Berwyn replied to kyleaustin81's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
I had this issue once. To try to fix it (worked fairly well) I took a new X-acto blade and poked holes in the clear film and worked Micro Sol or Set back behind the decal. It didn't entirely fix things, but it made the tires presentable. -

I bought the tacky glue at Michaels, altho AC Moore and I think Jo-Ann fabrics have it too. I'd think Hobby Lobby would too. Chris
