Keep going Fred, this is very educational. -
Another must have !

Awesome!!

I recommend you do John, the Audi and BMW kits are just as good.

This is the RoG kit, built mainly OOB with a few PE parts. A high quality kit, almost in Tamiya territory. Paint is Tamiya rattlecan.

Thanks for guiding us through this, Fred, very impressive work so far. -
I too have long admired your work, Tim, dating back to your column in Street Rodder. Whilst I don't share your views in this instance, because this is one of my all-time favourite kits, I must agree with your comment above. The kit comes in left hand drive - as a Brit I find this deplorable as the car in question is quintessentially English . If Tamiya could have improved this kit, I would prefer to have seen a right hand drive option rather than a full engine. I still think the final product is an excellent display piece and a joy to build, despite its 'shortcomings'.

I have over 150 built kits, of which at least 85% are from 'American' manufacturers, so I am not biased when I say that from my experience the better kits are Japanese. In addition to all Bob's reasons, two more stand out - tyres and 'glass'. And if we are talking about realism, full size cars have brakes as well as engines. The Japanese kitmakers have been replicating accurate disc brakes for decades, something the American manufacturers were (and occasionally are) way behind. Japanese kits tend to be more expensive because one is paying for quality, which isn't cheap. It's as though Tamiya et al aren't dominated by bean counters and the product comes first. Oh, and I'm not knocking bean counters, I used to be one . Back on topic, the Aston is one of my most enjoyable builds and looks terrific in my display case.

Neither do I Harry, the engine bay looks pretty good to me. The rest of the kit is excellent, except that it is wrong hand drive .

Thanks for sharing - I always enjoy seeing coverage of the west coast events. -
Not my style, but a nice clean build nonetheless. The interior looks great. They're wonderful kits to build, aren't they?

Excellent work Tim!

Thanks for the comments everyone, it really is a great kit. Hi Bill. I first glued the top to the body after a little fine tuning with sandpaper, it's not perfect but looks good from a distance. Primer and paint helped to fill the seams! I then followed the instructions, fitting the door panels and dashboard. As mentioned elsewhere, the windshield frame goes in from the outside, then the glass is attached on the inside. The seat went in through the roof after the body had been attached to the floorpan.

Basically an out of box build, lowered a little at the front and plug wires added. Paint is Duplicolour Red Metallic. Another home run by Revell, the kit is well engineered and goes together beautifully .

Rising price of our hobby
maltsr replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, such as the fact that they sold tens of thousands more kits back then to generate a healthy bottom line. Nowadays in the shrinking market, profit margin has to be higher per unit to return a profit which means relatively higher prices. -
That looks so good, Chris, great work!

It is, just about - looks a little out of proportion

Making good progress on the Model A. Fortunately I picked up that the blower belt is incorrectly shown in the instructions. The interior is painted to match the exterior and cleared with Testor's Dullcote. I've abandoned the plan for whitewalls and decided to go with the kit wheels/tyres.
