  1. It’s all good
  2. There’s something about an original kit. Had mine looked like yours, I don’t think I would touch it either. It looks so cool just like it is.
  3. Thanks everyone!
  4. I built this kit when it first came out, way back when. I built it out of the box back then. It was molded in red, and I painted candy red right over the red plastic, and I applied the decals. It came out great in my opinion. I lost track of my original kit a long time ago and always wanted to do it again. Several years ago I happened on a glue bomb California Flash build up, painted black. I stripped it and it’s sat a long time. The problem that’s kept me from tackling this project is, do I do it out of the box for nostalgia sake, or do I use a newer Duster kit and do a detailed build? I have tons of articles and reference material for this car. My reference showed things like no name plates, no marker lights an the cowl grille vents filled. The rear wheel openings are stretched.I decided to jump into this project and I removed the emblems marker lamps, hood pins and I filled the cowl grill after removing the windshield wipers. The old Dart Sport has all the new parts I need should I want to go the out of the box route. I’d be interested in your thoughts as I go back and forth to which chassis to use. I want to finish this project and not get bogged down re-engineering the kit.
  5. You have to admit that the Monogram kits build up nice and quick. I shot it with Testors Silver Blue Metallic, close to GM Marina blue, White interior and parts box wheels. The kit wheels just didn’t look right, too big looking and when I measured them they scales out to nearly 18 scale inches.
  6. Looks great to me
  7. Looks great!
  8. I’ll still buy one.....maybe two.
  9. The paint color in your initial post, looks like a candy yellow over a gold base, candy colors were very popular at that time, I would suggest a gold base coat followed be Tamia clear yellow, apply light coats until you match the photo. Finish with the clear coat.
  10. I too feel the pain.... started this project in 2013, reworked the Revell body to correct the back window and trunk area. Was going to be Shirley Muldowney’s yellow mustang, after 2 Sets of decals failed to cooperate, I threw it back in the box. Pulled it out and decided to try and save the body. Into the purple pond, painted it black and two sets of Trojan Horse decals later, I applied the clear, Testors brand new can just for this body. Sprayed the clear coat and it crazed the decals, not the side decals, there fine, no problem, just the decals on the top panels??????
  11. Candy colors are translucent. They need a base coat of white, silver or gold. I painted a lot of Candy colors in the 70s, and the base coat dramatically changed the hue of the color. The Golden Commando paint color is probably Candy Tangerine over a gold base.
  12. Throughly enjoyed the video. Very nice build, amazing patience!
  13. Ditto to all the other comments ! Great job!
  14. I’ll be following, Great Start!
  15. Wow, I’ve had this kit on the back of my bench for years. I’ve always wanted a accurate Grumpy’s Vega. I’ve corrected the rear wheel openings, and recently discovered the Chevy Monza kit has a more accurate front suspension. Yours looks great, a much needed inspiration for me. I for one really appreciate you guys posting you projects and finished builds. It makes me want to get back to the bench.
  16. Where did you get the front wheels?
  17. Very nice!
  18. An AC Delco battery? Very nice build!
  19. Amazing work Jay, good to see you posting again!
