  1. Nice Job!!! I'm enjoying your work, thanks for sharing it with us. What is your favorite car? When I was your age I think it might have been a new Ford. Keep up the nice work.
  2. I'm still thinking about this one and want to help. I also raised a step son and know how difficult that can be sometimes. I think it is great that you are taking the time to do this with him, it will mean a lot more to him later in life. Thinking of the situation I would now ask him what type of car he would like to drive/own someday and let him build that if it is available. Trucks can be very cool too. These are some of the most important times with him before he gets interested in girls and such. Hope that helps in some way.
  3. I like the old ones, so I'm probably not going to be much help. My son loved the AMT Viper, of course he is now 31, so probably not much help either. He always wanted a level 3 and he had to explane that to me. I would say what ever the current thing is with kids. Maybe an import of some kind.
  4. Checking back on your progress, nice work, keep it going! I love that 409.
  5. I decided that a long time ago, seems other people have different plans for me. We moved when I was 30 and I remember starting to black out from back pain carrying an old style TV up the stairs. On our next move, a year later we hired a moving company. Some one old, on the other hand is 10 to 15 years older then your current age. At 62, I feel it every morning when I first roll out of bed, then it comes and goes all day.We have a Sleep by Numbers bed so it is light as air, very easy to move, maybe you should try one next time. Now, I think old is going to be when we can't make it up the stairs any more and have to move our bed down stairs, I don't want to ever move again from this shack.
  6. IT is hard to get a good close up with my camera, this one might be better. I think the distributor may even need a little more angle, not sure.
  7. I don't have a lot of knowledge about this engine but, after struggling with the distributor for a while, the kit directions aren't very clear on this, I found an image of a real engine. The distributor actually fits in at an angle not straight up and down. Just thought I would share this with anyone interested. Don't ask me about the firing order.
  8. I loved your reveal, it honestly made me laugh, thanks for the humor. This car rocks! I don't see any scratches on it yet from my bicycle leaning on it while I was drooling over it. Yeah this one really does take me back to 1959 when I was just learning about J C Whitney and drooling on it. Love all the custom touches and the curb feelers are just right for the times. Man I would love to go for a ride. What a beauty!!!!
  9. I remember this one. This was a cool little boat and the '64 El Camino wasn't bad either, it had a pretty cool 327 with hop-up options and plenty of chrome. This is the only place I ever remember seeing the boat. I still have the El Camino but, the boat is gone. I kept dropping it and losing the parts and eventually all that was left was the shell. I had it painted yellow and the El Camino Red, always thought they looked good together.
  10. I am going to try Bare Metal Foil one more time after making these observations. The '57 Chevy has it just on the horizontal pieces. I have some on order from LHS should be here by the end of the week. The nice thing is, it should go right over the silver paint. If it gets scratched there is silver under it. After reading about the woos others have had with this stuff on another thread, I feel like I'm up for one more challenge. I just hope it doesn't have any wrinkles, you can't tell any more when you buy it the way they package it in a white envelope. Wish me luck, I will post pictures one way or the other, good or bad.
  11. I like the way you handled your interior using flat panels, it makes sense. Those headers look killer, what kit did you source them from? I love the bluing effect. Nice progress!
  12. I couldn't wait to make some comparisons.
  13. Alright! Problem solved, If you build this you might want to compare your rear springs side by side. I found that the one spring was not grooved out as much where the rear end meets it. After grooving the problem one out with the hobby knife, I used a small metric rule to measure both sides until they were exactly the same. Then glued all the parts together and clamped them with alligator clips, measuring again. Perfect!!!! Now I can go forward, what a relief.
  14. I keep losing half of my post!!! If I can remember what I just said. The left rear wheel is obliviously lower then the right. So the only thing I can figure is I got the glue thicker on one side where the rear end mounts to the springs. The springs went in the pin holes perfect. Oh well, anyway I had to walk away for a while. Now I feel like I need some white gloves to keep from winding up with another weathered rust project. Here's another picture of the dash with decals applied. This has a really nice decal sheet. Thanks again for looking.
  15. Thanks Joey, here you go. This kit has been a real pleasure so far. The biggest challenge has been the two tone paint and backing up to paint the valve covers black after they were already glued to the engine and painted ford red. At least until now.... assembled the chassis and wheels like clock work. Then I discovered one wheel in the air, oh no, here we go. Anyway thanks for looking and here are the pictures.
  16. Okay, my bad. I need that dictionary!!! Thanks Richard.
  17. Exactly what I am doing right now!!!
  18. What is a piker, did you mean peeker? I just reached 2000 since April of 2011, which means I'm on here way too much. Congrats on 500! I think my English grammar is getting better but, still a lot of room for improvement.
  19. Getting in the middle of one and starting another. One thing nice about being in a club, I try to finish my club project each month, usually on the day of the meeting.
  20. You know, after I posted the '63 I noticed this thread is under "Drag Racing Models", well this is an old drag racing model, of course back then my version was chrome reverse wheels, racing slicks, cut out pipes and a tow bar. I also drilled out the middle headlights for air flow to the engine which had three carburetors. Very trick huh? Also later it had a raised stance but, never any decals. I kind of restored it back to stock street later on but, a former drag racer. Thanks for looking. I love this thread!
  21. I'm enjoying your videos. The flake is looking good to me, almost like some of the nail polish jobs I have seen on here. I've never tried metal flake myself but, really remember this stuff looking like candy on cars back in the late '60s. I love what you are doing. Do you have experience in any other form of art? You seem like a pro with the models already.
  22. Okay, I was afraid to look after reading all the comments first Then I looked, it's just an airplane! I build cars so I'm still okay. No, really WOW!!!!!!!!
  23. Here's one from 1963 1/2. When I was 13 years old in 1963 I painted this, probably my first successful spray job and that is why I will never repaint it. Our neighbor who worked at Chevrolet Muncie, yeah the 4-speed manual plant, bought a new one, a ,black 390 version. It was literally the coolest car on the block. Of course being the big Chevrolet man he was, he did the logical thing with it. After hot rodding it around a while he ran out of gas right on the railroad tracks when a train just happened to be coming, barely escaping just before the train destroyed it. I think there may have been a few soda pops consumed along the way. I don't think he owned it long enough to make the first payment. Luckily mine did not share the same fate, although many of my models wound up in big fiery crashes. I do have the reissue to build and compare some day. Man look at that shine!!! I am like the proud Dad of this one.
  24. One little detail I missed the first time was the little wire on the coil, I've never done this so, now I have a new idea, thanks! Also love the "Honest Charley" decals. Did you make them? As far as the inner fenders go, I have seen them missing on real cars at shows. The one issue I see with that is road dirt getting on the engine. It does seem to give you more room to work on the engine though. Sometimes there can be a hidden tube frame up under the fender to mount the fenders on. I have seen this and also have seen them just sitting there on the lower frame or made to tilt forward. As far as the criticism goes, I did that once and felt bad about it afterword that I may have made the guy at the other end feel bad too. My motto is just not comment at all on something I see that I don't like. Some think it makes you a better modeler and are not shy about saying so, like Harry, and I think he means well. I hope I will become a better modeler with your little ignition wire, thanks for that tip.
  25. I missed this one also. Nice job, I love it!
