Atlantis Models has bought another lot of tooling/molds.....
Tom Geiger replied to Dave Van's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Probably because his dealer network didn’t order and distribute them. All I remember Dave sayings he wouldn’t chance any more large scale kits. -
As you wet sand, the lighter green will work right into the weathering! Per the chalks.. you want to work with dust. Either sand the side of the stick or place stick in a sealable plastic bag and smash it to dust. I’ve done it both ways. Two ways to use your dust.. dry and wet. I use a combination of both for different effects. Dry, use a brush to spread it across your model. After you have done your wet sanding you may want to spray the dull clear varnish over it all. That will give some texture for the dust to grip. You can always put more clear over it once done to seal it in too. To work wet.. spray some of the clear dull varnish into a small cup. Get two brushes you don’t care about. With one brush, put a bit of the varnish where you want to add to texture... then use the dry brush to dab in the dust. You can paint with it or dab it on so it had a texture for rust spots. Experiment with the colors in your earth tone set to see what they actually yield on your model. Like I said earlier it’s by eye and a bit like water colors. Don’t be afraid to play. It will dry darker, if not right you can lighten it up with more varnish or add more chalk until pleased

Very cool. Love the unusual color! Back in the summer of 1976 my buddy Mark has a white 1966 base coupe.. 6 cylinder, manual everything! We tore that puppy to hell and back!

1960 Ford F-100
Tom Geiger replied to Plowboy's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Ha! I would’ve asked you for them! I have have one set, which I guess I could putty or epoxy cast from. I know my buddy Victor Collins did cast some 1960 pickups since I have the grille / bumper units. I can check with him to see if he cast them, or if he cast them as part of the hood. -
Darn you Tom! ? Now you have me looking at lengthening the chassis. I just finished assembling this one, but have plenty of spares, so I will look at it. The 1:1 examples I show in this thread have long tails behind the wheels, but I agree this one would look less like a UPS Truck with the rear wheels back a bit further.

Good luck to you! This is a six month gig at a company you would've heard of. I'm supposed to straighten out their maintenance processes in six months! The last short term one I had was supposed to be a month or two, writing and proofing SOPs. Companies have a max term for consultants of two years, but I kept getting renewed as essential... but not essential enough to get hired as an employee. In the past two years everything I set up there has gone to garbage!

In the last mega large pharma company I consulted within, I was on an Opex team that was concerned about information retention due to massive turnover. Their info said the average stay of an employee was down to four years. They come in to get a manager's title.. then leave when they get an offer to step up to the next wrung of associate director at a competitor. Not only aren't they retaining talent and information, but it's going off to their competition! Still they didn't get the value of hiring people. Sad fact is in my industry they'll post director level positions asking for 5-10 years experience. I have 35 and they won't look at me. BUT, their buildings are full of people my age, many employees they laid off in lean years, all hired short term as consultants! Just about any of these companies will dig into my brain as a consultant but won't make an employee commitment. In fact I am supposed to be starting another consulting gig with another mega company...

Model King did an AMT large scale funny car, I believe it was a Vega. He did it because people were requesting it. A very small and vocal group! Where most of the 1/25 stuff he did sold out immediately, it took him more than a year to peddle those! -

Same for me! I like to concentrate on the model as if it’s a 1:1 and “feel” the process, if that makes sense to you guys. At most I will build a pair of the same model at same time. My 1950 Chevy pickup project worked well. The pair of Jeepsters a little less well -
Argh! My wife’s cousin in NJ died, non Covid related. It’s such a friggin mess today! Her sister cannot come from Florida, would need to quarantine 14 days upon arrival. Without her, that leaves my wife’s aunt and uncle in their 80s to fend alone. As such they are leaning on my wife and her siblings. There won’t be a wake, just a church funeral with limited attendance. Then an outdoor restaurant meal since NJ doesn’t allow indoor dining. This should be interesting.

Hello everyone, first time here.
Tom Geiger replied to Baxter1074's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Decals.. it depends on what the finish of the decal would be in real life. For instance, racing sponsor stickers are vinyl and have a distinctly different shine than the body. Some racing stripes have a matte finish. I wouldn’t clear over those. -
That’ll be novel!

Large scale models do not sell well In USA. Maybe that’s why Revell dumped them. -

The ‘other’ mag is stopping publication
Tom Geiger replied to cruz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Even with model clubs and shows! Model clubs stopped printing newsletters a decade ago! I still get several as PDFs attached to emails. NNL East used to print and mail a 4 page prospectus each year. Turns out it was costing over a dollar apiece to send these out. Today a postcard goes out, directing people to the website for more information. -
What did you see on the road today?
Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here we have 50 states that make up their own rules and practices are all over the board. Some states have tough tests annually while others have none at all! -
I wanted to use the Monogram kit’s four cylinder partly because the V8 in this series is too new to qualify for TROG. I also saw vintage speed equipment on the real cars so I had the bug to hop it up. I didn’t know of any kits, especially compatible with the 1/24 kit. Nor did I want to order and wait for anything aftermarket if even available. I saw this project surely heading down that road to over complicatous! I definitely wanted to lose the kit’s downdraft carburetor. I had a wild idea of multiple carburetors and thought two would be the max. Then I found pix on the Internet of a hopped up pickup with three carbs on it! I pulled out the triple carb unit and manifold that went to the V8 in this kit, and I found a better exhaust manifold. I spent some time with the photos, the mentioned parts, glue and putty and here’s where I wound up. Not sure how realistic it is, hoping convincing enough for a home welded hop up. It’s just mocked up and not glued in the pictures so it’s a little crooked
