  1. Agreed! I’m with you, my point was about new modelers who don’t know the history. A while back, a modeler who had just bought and opened the AMT 59 Chrysler kit. He was shocked by its clunkiness and simplicity since he had previously purchased and built the AMT 58 Fury kit. He expected to find a similar kit in the Chrysler box since they were the same manufacturer. He posted his thoughts and people on the board explained the history etc. There are guys who don’t know, and outside of models it’s rare to find products being produced from 60 year old tooling, so he didn’t anticipate it. Round 2 has taken to posting a depiction of box contents on the box bottom, but still there are guys who don’t read, and are still disappointed. That’s the danger of releasing these old classics into general market, such as Walmart, since people will not only not buy from that manufacturer again, but will also return item to store. Walmart penalizes companies with returned product.
  2. Sometimes it’s just fun to build something from nothing. Carry on!
  3. I had posted some time ago in another thread.. I thought it odd that I’ve never seen clearance kits at my local HL so I asked a manager. He said a guy comes in looking every day and buys them all! Interesting to me since I don’t know any modelers in my immediate area. Probably just some kit vendor reselling them. Today I took a different way home from my new job and saw a HL I’ve never been to.. didn’t stop, I figure I already have more than I need!
  4. A few weeks after we moved into our first house we got a letter from the former owner’s moving company asking if by chance we found a box left behind... contents? Coin collection! Gee, I would’ve noticed that! Um no, your crooked crew took that box! A few weeks after that the former owner got my phone number and called, demanding I return his coin collection. A few terse sentences exchanged and I wound up hanging up on him. Made me wish I had his friggin coins!
  5. Gotta love it! I hadn’t seen this list when I posted last about my 14,000 posts! I thought it was nothing special!
  6. I've got a bit over 14,000 posts and have been on the board since 2007, but didn't become a regular user until 2012 or so....
  7. It's like the guy forever whining that we need a new (insert any model here) and he'd buy a case or two! Model actually gets done... now he's whining that he can't get one for $10 at Ollies!
  8. Thank you everyone! It's an old build and a simple one at that. But it's sure getting some interest here! ?
  9. Looks fine to me! Nice car!
  10. No doubt older nostalgic modelers and toy collectors, same as Round 2! Most of the tooling is old and clunky, per the technology available when it was created. Today’s modelers are looking for Tamiya quality cut from 3D models.
  11. Lookin good!
  12. Great answer! Just like there are 50 shades of gray! I probably have more than a dozen different black spray cans.. all kinds of manufacturers, if I see a flat black I’ve never seen, I’ll grab one just to test spray. I use a lot of Testors and Tamiya tones... don’t discount their military lines either. One of my favorite chassis base colors is Testors Military Panzer Gray.. one of my favorite semi gloss blacks is Walmart Colorplace flat black.
  13. Very nice gasser Marty! Kinda reminds me of these!
  14. Cool model and great tribute build to your cousin!
  15. Agreed. I use a birthday candle standing on end for heat. I use an old Matchbox car with square edges to push the dents into the plastic. It’s good to have a lot of reference photos of dents! I get a lot of them from eBay Motors truck ads
  16. If you post that you need a specific part to move a build along, many folks here are happy just to send you the part! It’s the bank of good turns. People have sent me parts, asking nothing in return, so I’ve repaid the favor by doing the same for the next guy!
  17. I agree with Bob! And it’s just not right to criticize on the board paid for by Gregg. Also goes for comments about not willing to buy the magazine but happy to suck up the free message board! Some manners people. I am a subscriber and am hopeful by Larry’s post and involvement. My first rule of life.. “Always root for the under dog!”
  18. I think everyone from our era has that memory! My father was an army officer and we’d go shopping as a family at the post exchange (PX) when I was 6. My reward for being good while shopping was that I could get a new Matchbox car! The rotating carousel was on the camera department counter.. where my father wanted to go anyway since that was his hobby! This was 1965 and my choices seemed to be small working trucks like a tow truck and the tea truck. I still have the tea truck!
  19. Sprayed through airbrush
