Very cool! That needed to be built

When we were looking for a car we drove 2 hours to a dealer who advertised 3 Chrysler 300s. Called ahead and salesman said they had them. Got there and there wasn’t a single one on the lot. Salesman quickly tried to sell us other cars. Lied to get us there!

I was a teen for the first gas crisis but was a participant for the one in 1978. We took delivery of a brand new 1979 Capri RS late on a Friday. We got in it and saw the gas tank was on empty. We were used to having new cars delivered with a full tank! The sales staff was no help so we took the new car home and parked it! Gas stations were closed all weekend and the plate in it was wrong for Monday so we had to wait until Tuesday to get gas. Nothing like sucking the excitement out of getting a new car!

I built this when the kit first came out. It went together well and was finished before I knew it. There are a few peculiar things about it. First are in interior side panels being attached to the rear fender wells. I’d like to be able to glue those in place prior to building the body, but on this one I was just careful gluing them in place. Those side panels also have tabs that attach to the floor board. You can see those on the finished model, as you can see in the above photos. Next time I will fill those in. Also the side panels appear to have a finish inside the trunk. And there are two parts that glue inside the sealed trunk, very nicely detailed modern fuel tank and battery. This all works well if you open the trunk on your model, but otherwise save those parts! I’ve since used mine on other builds where the are very visible. No doubt there is/was a version planned with an open trunk.

Super job Steve! I enjoyed watching you build it step by step!

The Heller Citroen trucks are pretty nice. Very detailed and a bit fiddly like old Revell kits. I have them all, worked on the Borden’s truck

Yesterday Tom Valenta said Rich continues to do well but hasn’t been on the computer because sitting in that position is still painful. Looking forward to his return to the board!

I watch the "Alaska State Troopers" tv show, it's an interesting view of Alaska. I am amazed at the number of Crown Vics in their fleet. Especially in the scenes where they are racing to an emergency in show. They do have a good number of 4wd vehicles, you'd think all their vehicles would be!

Double Survivor Resto/Rescue: Two Original AMT '67 Impala Promos
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in Model Cars
Very cool survivors and nice work bringing them back to nice! Here's the original '67 in my collection. Both the 67 and 68 came to me via a collection someone gave to me.... yea, gave! Everything in that collection was poorly built promo style with aggressive glue... see the '68s front fender in the first photo. I will need to restore them one day! -

Chopping a 32 Ford grill

You are correct that the shell can be sectioned and glued / putties / sanded to shape. For the center part I try to take the plastic from the top or bottom to keep from having a seam. Once cut, I will carefully sand the edges down until it fits -

COVID-19 has brought out the tinfoil hat crowd again...
Tom Geiger replied to Mike C's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
And that’s why I try to put a “post of reason” in these threads. I’m hoping people just calm down and support one another. -

COVID-19 has brought out the tinfoil hat crowd again...
Tom Geiger replied to Mike C's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Guys, we are going to go stir crazy being cooped up for the immediate future. This site needs to be a place we can come for a respite from all the pressures we are feeling. So let’s start some new builds and post our progress. Maybe pull out an old build and finish it? The diversion will help your mental state. As a population we are in the target age group and a lot of people we know have compromised conditions. And they are scared. So maybe we all pull together and support each other as a community? -

Folks, this is real and serious. We need to do what we are asked, and watch the situation. It changes daily. I am disappointed with the idiots hoarding and even more so with those seeking to make a profit. The scammers should be lined up and shot. And I have no tolerance for the conspiracy folks on Facebook or anyone trying to politicize this dire situation. These are trying times but rest assured that the world’s best scientists are working around the clock. They’re talking about the vaccines for malaria and Ebola being tested as possible cures. There was a guy from Washington state saying he was given a five day therapy of the malaria drug and got better. Have faith. So let’s all calm down, be nice and support each other, and pray for the best!

If the truck is a 62 with a V8, why compromise? By the time you have parted two kits you could find an original or resin. An old built up would work. Anytime I want something like this I set up an eBay search agent and they email you anytime something is available. Give it a bit of time, bid low and eventually you’ll get lucky.

It seems that original poster John has 12 posts and joined the board on Saturday, so give him some slack. John, there are many threads on the board that will inform you about the different model companies, their sizes and what their current market strategies are. The current managers of these companies are quite astute to market conditions, what to offer and how to navigate in this tiny little market.
