Sorry to hear Alan! Get better!

Michael, we've never had a model disappear from the show table at NNL East. We have over 30 uniformed staff members patrolling the building in their lime green shirts so we are very visible. We also have two uniformed police officers, and two plain clothes officers in the building. We have several EMS people (two on our staff and at least one of the police officers) just in case we have a medical emergency. We do get models left behind. Usually someone calls in a panic within the next day. Occasionally someone calls and accuses us of stealing their model. I ask if it's the red Corvette, and I tell them we have it and are holding it for them. Same with bags of purchases. At least one a year. Our vendors are very honest and always turn those in to us. That said I do have one very nice Corvette that was left behind at least a decade ago. And a bag of ancient goodies left behind a few years ago. Neither was every claimed but I have them set aside just the same. We are always pleased to reunite people with their stuff. In Dave's situation, he was a vendor in the room that is a Bingo hall. We do have the room rented until 4pm, and Bingo starts at 7pm. Still around 3pm ladies start showing up for Bingo! And as our vendors pack up, the hall's team of teenagers come in and set the room up for Bingo. Dave admits that the vendor next to him had already left, and he believes he placed the box on that table for safe keeping and forgot it. Unfortunately he did not realize he left it behind until he got home. He called both me and the hall, and then I spoke with the hall manager. The dumpster had been emptied by then, otherwise I would have driven there and taken a dive myself. I did send an email to all the vendors in that room, and nobody had the box. I believe that in the haste to get the hall converted to Bingo, the teenagers must've considered the box trash and tossed it out. Note that vendors do leave behind a lot of empty boxes and other trash, so that makes sense. Especially since the box contents, which are unique, has not shown up. It's a small world today and if they were seen on eBay or for sale at a show, someone would've identified them. Note that I always wait until after everyone has left the building and do one final walk through. Every year there is at least one model, a jacket or other things. One year we did have a vendor leave behind a case of kits. I take them home and wait for the calls. That year there were no boxes left behind. We're sorry that this did happen to Dave, as he is a friend of mine and NNL East. We hope that he does reconsider and come back to the show.

Just learned it's not an "all new kit", it's based on the AMT '67 SS. Which is just fine!

That one has bit me twice! I bought my 1990 Plymouth Grand Voyager new from a dealer in New Jersey. When I went back to the dealer a week later to pick up the plates, and they went to install them for me, we noticed the mini van had no front bracket. It had originally been shipped to Pennsylvania, a one plate state. Dealer said he'd get me the bracket. Dealer calls me a week later with a problem... not a bracket. Chrysler put a totally different front bumper on plate and non-plate vehicles! So not to change out the painted bumper, we agreed to put a bracket on it. The front came to such a point, we agreed to put it to the center of the left side of the bumper. That made it easy to spot in parking lots! Second story... my daughter had to be one of the very first to buy a Fiat 500, some 7 years ago. No dealer in New Jersey where she lived, but a huge dealer near me in Pennsylvania. She buys the car, they order the front plate bracket. I pick it up and bring it to her in NJ. I had to drill the brand new painted plastic bumper cover. At least it was just screwed to that! And for anyone wanting to make a remark about the Fiat 500... she bought the full optioned white convertible like Jaylo drove in the commercials (and because of the commercials). She has had it for 7 years and has 135,000 miles on it without a single repair outside of regular maintenance.

I used to own a '73 Valiant Scamp.... same car!

Fun! Nothing like a quick project for a burst of energy!

Last I noticed, New Jersey was proposing going to one plate as a cost cutting measure. I grew up in NJ and always thought a car should have two plates. I thought it odd when I moved to Pennsylvania 10 years ago to only have one plate. But it grew on me! I like that my cars don't need a front plate. In fact in PA, you can display nearly anything you want in the front plate area. We see lots of Euro plates.. you can display any non-current plate from other jurisdictions... thus the US Virgin Islands St John plate on the front of my Tracker.

What Did You Have for Dinner?

And that was how I invented the Liverwurst Taco! We had liverwurst but no bread. I spied a pack of soft taco shells... the rest is history! ? -
Revell Land Rover Series 3 109 inch
Tom Geiger replied to GeeBee's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I ordered mine the evening of 11-14 and they efficiently shipped it on the 15th. Arrived in Exton, PA today. As Mike said, my box was smushed... an odd wrap around very light cardboard box... but aside from the box having creases in the sides, the model is fine. -
Interesting that this is one of Round 2's first all new kits. The TV tie in is one of their things, so not surprising. Am surprised that they didn't do it as a low parts count curbside for the TV crowd.

The Rover has landed.... My Land Rover arrived from the UK in today's mail! I don't have to show it off since the contents etc have already been posted on the board. One word of caution - If you pull it out of the box, note how the trees are arranged or it will be fun to get it all back in the box! There's a lot in there.

I would imagine they were exclusive and now out of production. Try a Chevy engine from a model kit. That should work!

Neat. I love the family history aspect of the project!

My wife wanted Baby's First Christmas ornaments for the twins. And she wanted them personalized. I told her I could do that! So we went to Hobby Lobby and found these ornaments for Baby's First Christmas. That and the year were already on it. And I made the decals for the personalization the same way I make decals for model cars. She also wanted their birth date. I created the script she wanted in Word and scaled it very small, like 6 pica. I printed a mess of these, on a quarter piece of clear decal paper. Good thing, because they were very hard to handle and kept curling up. Once I got them in place, I zapped them with setting solution which melted them down into place. Not perfect, but everyone will be pleased. My wife will give these to my daughter on Thanksgiving to place on her tree!

Source for Number 11 Blades
Tom Geiger replied to Tom Geiger's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My blades arrived yesterday. Per Casey's advise I bought a box of 100 real x-acto blades in an ancient box. Included a bonus of 10 extra blades so I have 110 blades which will probably last me a good long time. -

Yes, I know this is a 1979 or 1980. While everyone else is thinking how big an engine they can stuff into it, I'm thinking more like light commercial. My local post office used these through the 1980s.

Revell Land Rover Series 3 109 inch
Tom Geiger replied to GeeBee's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The UK eBay seller shipped mine on the 15th so I guess I'm next! I tried to give the info to a friend of mine yesterday, but I noticed that the price went from $27.99 US postpaid to $32.99 and was listed as out of stock. -
Yea, I have a feeling that Michaels is circling the drain. I read a while back that they had been purchased by some investment company that was bent on reducing costs. That involved less inventory so there were a lot of empty shelves. Someone said that their cost cutting got so bad that the fork lifts in the distribution center weren't running because they refused to buy new batteries! I have a Michaels and Hobby Lobby in competing shopping centers you could walk between. I stopped going to MIchaels because they cut back on models and they had the spray paint under lock and key. You have to find a person to unlock the case, then they bring the can up to the register! Like I'm gonna steal it! There is an AC Moore a few miles away, but nothing there worth the drive.

Getting Started - Help Please
Tom Geiger replied to DBModels's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Damian, welcome! Start small. Don't start out with an expensive kit and expecting perfect results. It will take some baby steps, and if you work on it, your models will get better with each one. So buy a kit to practice on. As Brian said, I too like to use Duplicolor spray cans of automotive touchup. I believe the brand may be used in the UK. If you use automotive lacquers, be sure to buy the same brand primer as it is needed to protect the kit plastic. A straight shot of Duplicolor on raw plastic will cause it to distort. Not pretty! -
I was thinking about this thread as a used decals to personalize some Christmas ornaments for my wife! First, the situation you described is typical for any self printed decals. And, when using kit decals that have that larger mask under them, I'll often trim them to size so the clear around the edges isn't visible on my finished model. I generally will soak the decal in warm water and position it still on paper right near where I want to apply it. I will hold it there and coax the decal to move to the right with a toothpick. Once I get the edge started and the decal is where I want it. I will hold the decal in place with the toothpick and pull the paper away to the left with either my fingers or tweezers. I hope you can picture that.
