  1. Thanks Mark for that information. I thought it was an original annual. And I'm keeping it just as you see it. It's currently in one of my display cases.
  2. You can make your own decals! I made these, printed on white decal paper. You could always paint the small area where you want the decal a lighter color, then apply the decal on clear stock over that.
  3. Great work! Especially the wiring under the hood. You went the extra mile! You have a great long future in this hobby!
  4. I just saw that the storm is now headed more offshore so while the coast will still have a storm, it won't be devastating. I hope it's true and everyone will just have too much milk and bread for a while!
  5. Wow! Airstream Museum and the original NNL site on the same block! A tourist thing for sure! ?
  6. Thanks! A YouTube blogger wrongly reported that NNL East was ending this year and we're still fighting that rumor! (No, we just signed another 5 yr lease - we are here to stay!)
  7. You can get this complete set of bits at Hobby Lobby. I believe it's a bit cheaper than the price tag here, AND you can use your 40% off coupon. This box works very well to keep the bits in order and from getting lost! I know someone mentioned getting the pin vice with two sizes of collett for the different size bits. If you find the smaller bits still swim in the holder, I have glued them into scale heater hose. This works well in the larger collett. First thing, start your hole by making an indent with the tip of an exacto knife. Once you have the starter indent, start with a smaller bit, then once you have the depth, use a larger bit for the final hole. You don't have to go deep at all for the illusion of an exhaust pipe. In fact the deeper you go the more apt you are to ruin your pipe since you aren't drilling exactly straight and could pop out the side eventually.
  8. I'm not a bidder but I think I'd prefer the two Ramblers that the same seller has on eBay! Probably buy both for less than one of the Plymouths!
  9. That is friggin cool! When you take a common subject like a VW, and manage to do something nobody has done before, it's brilliant! I read every word of this thread. Well deserved second place!
  10. Once you have a chain rolling like this it's easy and cheap to expand! Landlords for stores this size will grant considerable concessions to gain such a tenant. Such as 6 months to a year or more free rent, construction monies etc. If a chain has their vendors on net 90 and focus on a 30 day sell through, there is no cost to put product into it. Big business at it's best!
  11. This past week I bought one of these kits at Hobby Lobby on clearance for less than $8. Since people in this thread (although a long time ago) asked to see one built, here's one that's in my collection. I bought it this way, probably an original issue, or at latest the Countdown Series. No engine wiring or extra detail, but someone did a nice clean build on this kit!
  12. Be Safe Everyone! I was watching the Philadelphia noon news on TV. This morning 20 crews from the Atlantic City, NJ power company left for a muster point near Florida. A long row of bucket trucks each dragging a trailer, some with pole borers, some with generators. One with a huge trailer of bottled water, followed by a diesel tanker for refueling. News said more crews were poised to leave if needed. All of the power companies on the east coast have mutual agreements. When Sandy hit New Jersey we saw crews from many southern states in the area.
  13. Nice work! It's nice to see it all has come together!
  14. Heck, everyone was crying the sky was falling back in the 1990s... Tomy bought Playing Mantis for the Racing Champs diecast business. They wound up with AMT and had no idea what to do with it. Everyone was whining that they were going to scrap all the tooling for metal value! R/M was owned by Hallmark and was for sale... But we got better! ? At the time I was confident that IF there was a viable model car market, smaller and smarter companies would fill any voids. It happened then and continues to happen today.
  15. Congrats guys! My eldest got married three summers ago. Also in her 30s and they paid for a good portion of the over the top wedding. I have one daughter to go and she's more conservative!
  16. Be safe everyone!
  17. It does! I'm hoping to hold a beer for much of the upcoming weekend.
  18. True! But he wouldn't sell the floor model because he had plastic wrap over it to hold it in place. And he'd get ticked off if you opened the box to check out the one he presented to you! ?
  19. A few thoughts as I read through all the posts: 1. Be careful of baking soda. It has a sodium / salt content that will absorb moisture from humidity. Early on I was instructed to use it for grit in my rust. I later noticed some of those rust spots getting a damp appearance when humidity was high. Better off using something inert. 2. Either flocking or embossing powders... Do not do this in your regular work area where you do fine finishing! This stuff can get into everything. I do mine far away from my normal area. 3. With flocking, I have found that once it's complete, static electricity can attract individual loose fibers and I've found them on the seats and worse, on the inside of my kit glass. I found that once it's dry, I've given it a spray of hair spray to hold it in place. I have a concern with embossing powders although I don't know of anyone who has had this issue. Their main purpose is to be used with embossing / laminating machines to create a raised image. So they are designed to melt with heat. I just don't know how much heat! Here's an example of something created with embossing powders. It sticks to ink or toner and melts into place with heat.
  20. My HL always has a few of the Greenlight trailers. I've just never seen one on clearance! So I grabbed it. There were a few of the Prowlers on my last trip so I bought one. The wheels and tires in this kit are worth the $7.99 Here's a set of the Prowler wheels...
  21. My local Hobby Lobby actually had some clearance items. Looked like they picked the place clean, I found these behind other items.
